I have watched them but not extensively. They like to run a lot of power. The quarterback is not Andrew Luck and does not scare me. They have a 6' 8'' tight end that does concern me.

I don't think their quarterback is very mobile.

They get after the quarterback and look pretty big and fast. I think George A3 can burn them on the corner.

Basically I see their strength being countered with our defensive front. We will win the game, but it will be a lot closer then Miami, and I did predict we score over 40 against Miami.

Their offense has become way more multiple than previous years under Harbaugh, which really isn't saying much.

They like to spread it out on offense. I've noticed them getting themselves behind the chains from doing this. I have the USC, Washington, and Arizona game that I've watched so far this year.

IMO they've softened up quite a bit under Shaw.

They just beat Arizona, but it went to overtime. They managed 617 yards, but they gave up 617 yards.

Here is a key. They ran the ball 43 times at 6 yards a pop. We will stress stopping the run, staying in our lanes and Manti should have a field day. Hold them to 2-3 yards a carry on the off tackle plays and they could be in trouble.

When they have to throw put some pressure on this new quarterback. Shrink that pocket and don't always come with a 3 man rush.

Is Stanford use to warm weather?? Will it be cold in South Bend?? My daughter told me it was cold up there today. Don't you think the weather played a role in Miami dropping those passes??

Noticed Stanford has what I call a down hill defense They run hard at you in straight lines, but lack change of direction speed So ND needs to get them moving side to side. Outside zone, reverses, zone read, bootleg, cut back, etc

I have watched Stanford play a few times this season. My Impression of them is that they are a big physical hard nose team that lacks speed. This would be true except for there tight end (being 6-8 you would think would be an advantage) he does not do very well when he gets smacked around. I have seen him dropped many balls after he has been hit hard. I think if our defense rattles him early we can take him out of the game.

That's good stuff. I have not seen that tight end drop any balls. I haven't seen much of them. What we don't want is for the quarterback to have enough time to hit him deep with an accurate pass. He's just too big.

They look fairly fast to me on the pass rush, but I think Faith has nailed it, they struggle with change of direction. We can get outside. George Atkinson could be key. Golson could even get outside on the read option. Let's swing a couple to Riddick. Is this the day Chris Brown breaks into the offensive stats. It's bound to happen some time. DaVaris Daniels is now legitimately a stud.

Stanford played much better offensively against Arizona, but not defensively. Could be another good game for Golson. So happy it will be at home. Cold weather could only help.

I've said this in two threads already, but Stanford's achilles heel is a mobile QB.

For their offense, the game plan is the same as we had with MSU: stop the run, stop the run, stop the run.

i didnt see the arizona game but i watched a lot of stanford's loss to washington. nunes look awful and was not very mobile. i thought our front seven would be very problematic for him. after the arizona game i'm less confident as he had a breakout game similar to golson against miami. i dont think arizona plays much defense so i'm still hopeful our front line can get to him. he has 2 tight ends, but i dont think their receivers are that great.

I think Arizona's pass defense is 110th in the nation

I was just checking the weather and it looked like about 66 degrees. I'm fine with that. I'm ready to open up the offense a bit more. Really liking our chances.

They have really pussied up the offense since Harbaugh left. Their QB is barely serviceable.

On Defense they are going to release the dogs on Golson. His scrambling ability and accuracy should help, as long as he has a feel for the pocket he should be good. Timing routes among other things should help. Unleash Chris Brown.

Offense Is going to be similar to Michigan state.

Question is "Who can out pound who?"

Absolutely.

Lots of bulk and straight-line speed, but these dudes don't change direction well at all.

Cierre Wood should have a field day on Saturday. He looked like the old Cierre this Saturday (finally!!!) and his confidence has to be sky high.

I believe he is one of the top 5 cutback RBs in the country.

Tremendous vision, cuts on a dime, and accelerates really well.

Like OI said, they averaged 6 ypc against Zona. Slice that in half or in thirds, and if Cierre goes off, we should handle them easily.

P.S. if Golson has time he can exploit their corners. They aren't great.

Despite out run blocking problems during some of our games this year, i think our pass blocking has been pretty darn good

One more importanat thing is that Nunes and their offense is not very succesful on 3rd down conversions. 24 conversions on 71 attempts. That is NOT VERY GOOD and with the way our defense has been playing I am very confident our defense will be able to stop them in their tracks. I don't see this one being as close as most think.

Arizona is in the 100's for total defense, pass defense and scoring defense. 84th in rush defense. They are Miami bad.

The easiest way to beat Stanford is big plays over the top. That is how Wasington scored on them. If we try to pound it out with them we will probably win but it will be a long night and a close game.

Arizona gave you the blueprint.

Spread them out, utilize speed and misdirection.

Sounds to me like it is time to give them a major dose of GA3. Still waiting for Chris Brown to emerge. This can be a fun weekend. Exceed expectations, again, and watch Texas beat up Oklahoma.

Came here to say this. Pass early to loosen the D, then go balanced the rest of the way. We won't be seeing 30 runs in a row like in Chicago (that pitch was a run, dammit ;) ).
