i think we are sitting at 6

Oops. Edited.

Which actually equates to a virtual #4 since, if ND runs the table (and I'm not saying they will, but for the sake of this present argument I'm just postulating if they do), two of the three SEC teams cannot remain undefeated, since there's only one possibility for that after the SEC championship game.

Will WVa run the table? I don't know about that one. But that's not a sure bet, that's for certain.

Best chances are that Alabama will stay unbeaten and #1, so I'm figuring they're in.

In the end it could come down to the Irish vs. the Ducks.

Obviously, there's a looooooooooooooong way to go and we're plenty young with plenty of still untested holes. But the Trees, Sooners and Trojans are definitely not what we once thought they were. And you never know about the traps.

One game at a time.

You just never know.

Each week we're learning more and more about this team. And each week they're learning more and more about themselves.

And after this week everyone is going to know a whole lot more.

As I said, I'm not predicting anything. For all I know, we still could go 9-3. All I'm saying is that, at the moment, we're ahead of them in the BCS. If we beat them, we still have to deal with the SEC, WVa, and the Ducks. Only two get in. IMHO, beating OU and SCal means nothing as regards our advancing past two of the three just mentioned. If Oregon and the Tide run the table, I don't think beating OU and SC is going to push us past them. That's all I'm saying. As for WVa, that's another story, but as I said, only two get to dance.

IF ND goes undefeated they will be in the title game. Why, because an undefeated Oregon will have had it's biggest tests against Stanford and SC, both of whom ND will have had to beat as well. Add in the rest of ND's schedule and there is no contest. KSU/WVU would be more of a worry to me, although I suspect reputation would hurt both teams in a beauty pageant with ND. And finally, the computers love ND, and will even more should ND go undefeated.

That said, I dont think we will have to worry about that. 9-3 still would seem a distinct possibility.

Couple of random thoughts.....

yeah the SEC should play itself out to only one unbeaten Alabama. I am still pissed that two SEC teams were in the NC game last year.....that better not happen again. lol.

There are at least 2 pollsters in the AP that have ND at 14th. 14th! I know that doesn't equate to the BCS polls, but what if there are other Harris or Coaches dudes doing similar things? Computer really likes us...so why not the 'people'. Hmmmm.

Lastly....everyone always thought 2013 is the year......so whatever noise we make in 2012 will be great. BCS game seems very real at this point. NC game would be icing on the cake. Will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

Lastly....earlier in the year some folks on ESPN were talking how if ND went undefeated they would have beaten 5 ranked teams. No team that ever went undeafeated against five ranked teams has been denied the championship game.

Yes, but Oregon would have beaten a top 10 ranked Oregon State and probably beaten USC twice.

As strong as Oregon is in the 2 "people polls" I don't see any team jumping them without an Oregon loss.

I hate doing it since I've always been a one-game-a-time type of guy, but it is kinda exciting looking at the possibilities IF we keep on winning games....some of those teams ahead of us right now play each other (So Car/Fla; WVU/KSU), so some of that gets sorted out and makes more room for us to move up. I'm not even sure about penciling in Bama for one of the spots....they still have a little stretch of Miss St, LSU and A&M, and then the chmp game..ya never know. The only team ahead of us I'd be surprised to see not win out is Oregon.

Next several weeks gonna be fun!

This. Damned good advice...

I'd be more than happy with 9-3.....

At this point? To finish 4-3? You'd be happy? 5-0 start changes expectations.

Regardless of how we got there, I'd be more than happy with 9 wins. New QB and young, inexperienced secondary....yep. Thats why Im elated right now to be 5-0...

I don't know. At this point 9-3 means ND loses to an inferior team and doesn't beat anyone they are better than.

10-2 I could live with happily from here.

Well you're posting from preseason 9-3 land. Im posting from preseason 7-5 land. 9-3 is an improvement from 8 wins any way you spin it. Continuous improvement is all ive ever asked of BK and, especially given the strength of this year's schedule, anything beyond 8 is cool with me.

Are yOu calling me an optimist?

Besides, I went conservative with my preseason prediction and said 10-2, which I'd take right now, though it's going to be hard to be totally satisfied at this point with 10 wins.

Well Im not going to predict 7 wins and then be disappointed when we only win 9 or 10. I have my pride to protect.

Oregon State won't look so good to the computer when they lose again. They lost their quarterback this week.
