I hope the title is not too graphic but since alford took over as recruiting coordinator, the strategy seemed to be locking in on mutually interested targets and get them to commit early.. All that is great-and we got some good kids, but I wonder with us having such a strong season and getting all this national attention, did we load up too fast? Would more elite players be willing to give Ole ND a longer look? Did hold back enough schollies?

Is it possible that AA, and Mattingly are the ones saying "If you're looking, we're looking"

I think it's been scientifically demonstrated that lewd acts with birds cannot produce more birds.

(Sorry for that, NYgirl)

It continues to amaze me that ND thinks it's the ONLY fanbase in the country that experiences waivering commits and late de-commits.

We have a GREAT class, and it could get better. Let's wait until February before we say we take verbals too early.

Look, if you really wanna be "back" top 10 ain't nearly good enough. Like Lemming says all the time, ND needs 2BACK-TO-BACK top 5 classes. That's what gets you into SC, SEC territory, AKA the consistent NC contenders...

I harp on this all of the time and I totally agree. But we're currently sitting in a position of power recruiting wise and I think our class will add 1 homerun we are currently hard after (Alexander, Treadwell, Muhammad-NJ, etc.) and another few very solid players (Priest, LJ Moore, etc). To act like this class is full of bums, especially when all of our 3* guys were closely evaluated by the staff and offered VERY early in the recruiting process, is absolutely crazy.

Let it play out, who knows, maybe instead of losing 3 headliners in Darby/Tee/Deontay we will be the team bringing in 3 headliners late in the process.

Completely agree Piratey... especially when the b.i.h. is a genus rk and species g...

I know your not asking me 2lakes but Alex would be on his third commitment and is in my eyes over enjoying recruiting fame. I would give him a warning no official visits or we resind your offer. ND is 5-0, how much better case can they make?

I think there is less to worry about concerning Alex than most may think. He seems to keeping the ND staff in the loop regarding his actions. He did not take an official, his visit to Florida was an unofficial. He also did not give any post-visit interviews per ND's request.

He might still flip which is OK since it is his decision and he is only a teenager. If so, ND will simply take another recruit (probably a four star) and move forward.

I've wondered about this every year - do we take too many 3 stars early instead of gambling later on with guys that are more highly rated? I agree with those of you that trust the abilities of our coaches to evaluate and hope that many of these 3 stars will be good contributors. However, there's a reason Clausen, Tuitt, Lynch, Teo, etc. were 5 stars.

Here's what I think it comes down to - recruiting is so early now. We have a couple of commits for next year already. Coaches are mostly talking to juniors and sophomores right now. Our success on the field is great, and we will get recruits that are more highly ranked because of it...next year. As much as we want to see the 5 star stud sign this year and be an all-american next year, it's just more stable and better planning to not gamble. This year's success will set us up great for 2015-17, but we'll have to rely on previous years for 2013-14.

This being said, this is a very good class, and I like it a lot. It could have a couple more elite playmakers, but it's very good.

All of these numbers are from Rivals.

9 out of the top 10 in the nation are committed.

16 out of the 22 five-stars are committed.

36 out of the top 50 are committed.

79 out of the top 100 are committed.

Which begs the question -- how did ND "blow their wad" when the majority of kids are ending their recruitments FAR earlier?

And how can this topic really come up when ND has a consensus top 5 class and the only kid who can be considered a question market right now is Anzalone?

When you have a great season, that usually pays dividends for the next recruiting cycle..look at a team like Michigan. It gives recruits a chance a to talk to each other all summer about how great that team was and how great they can be.
