I finished reading some of the lastest post about wilson and grey and all of the sudden I don't feel real good about our position with either (just my gut).

So let's say that we lose out on wilson, what do you think will be the next step for the ND staff in terms of targeting OL.

And......

Let's just say that grey stays with SoCar, what does that do to our DB recruitment?

I guess I'm wondering if neither of these players comes to ND, what is the game plan?

And...beyond wilson's annoucement, who is the next big target? (Donald the LB from Tenn. who also doesn't look ND bound as of now, again just my gut. Wow, maybe I should have my gut checked out by a Dr.)

Somebody, anybody give me something positive so I can sleep better tonight.

I also know it only July, but in my heart, mind, and soul ND football is 365 days a year!

as far as gray goes,

hes not stupid, he lives basically on the USoC campus, he knows what comes with opening it up, the criticism he will recieve, the bashing he will get from the local media and everyone he plays with, you do not go through that unless theres a reason

also, you dont travel all the way to ND on your own dime unless you are serious

i think him saying USoC was still in the lead was just a PR move, if they were in the lead there was no point in decommitting, he could have said he was looking around and didnt want to open it up, i think ND is in the lead, im not saying its over, but i really feel good about him

Wilson's argument is that he set a date after visiting ND and guys don't do that if they arent ready to decide, thats broke's argument and its a good one, however, i know his dad is in Cali like vagas says, and i have heard he liked USC, i didnt think he was overwhelmed but some seem to think that. The problem is no one is hearing anything so everyone is just guessing, and people are nervous which makes them say USC, i havent seen any big time USC guys (guys i trust) pick Wilson to USC, it seems like speculation, we should know this next week, if we dont hear anything by then, i will say he is a trojan, right now ill hold to my original position (and his) and say he is irish

Gray's decommitment has rattled SCAR's program. Imagine if Gray had committed to us and then decoms. Or if last year Aldridge had changed his mind. Mustain changed his mind for one reason - to try and schmooze Weis into an offer. If SCAR's fans have responded with a vituperative barrage of criticism then maybe Gray is ready to get the hell out of Dodge. Gray and his mom can move in right next door to the Walkers. Isn't Gray's coach an old buddy of Weis or something? The plan is Gray's getting his ass to ND.

Ok, I'm begging to feel a little better. Thanks TD, that was like an asprin for a headache.

TD, I totally agree with what you said about Gray. His comments about USC were just a PR move. A smart one at that since he is the state's "golden boy" (no pun intended) this year.

73, I, like you, go through periods of elation and discomfort about the prospects for this years recruiting class. What we all need to remember is that the season will determine much of the final outcome with most of our recruits (even some that have already verbed I suspect). So, we need to just sit back and wait patiently and pray we have a kick ass season. If things go well, I have no doubt that we'll have a top 5 class.

TD.....I meant begining to feel better, not begging...lol...sorry if that sounded weird.

Vagas.....your right, I try to keep reminding myself its only July, and we are talking 17 & 18 year-old players.

I guess in my own crazy mind, I think, if I was in thier shoes what would I do...oh yeah, take my five offical visits and they would look like this, (in not particular order)

1. Notre Dame

2. Notre Dame

3. Notre Dame

4. Notre Dame

5. Notre Dame

Then I would be able to make a very educated decision as to where I would play my college ball.

LOL, that is a perfect list!

It is almost identical to mine, except I would visit Miami...for uh...educational purposes.

ok so a few of you guys feel pretty good about wilson and grey and I can see and agree with your points. But, let's say hypothetically, we lose out on both.......what are your thoughts on what the next move(s) would be....again, just hypothetically.

University of Miami and educational purposes

Now there are two things you don't ever hear in the same sentence....lol

sure you do i am going to miami for special educational purposes!!!!

I'm with you 73. I know it seems like an obvious choice. Too bad none of us are 5-star prospects. If so, CW would have this class sewn up by now!

I would also visit Miami and several other choice areas to get some head, uh I mean get a heads up on the different programs.

I would visit Georgia Tech on September 2nd, then I would visit ND on September 16th, then I would visit Michigan State on September 23rd, then I would visit USC on November 25th and sometime in December I would visit Miami. 4 good ND games and vacation on the beach to wrap it up.

73 I would not worry too much about OL... Everyone that is offered are top caliber players and we are in good position with most of them. A little while ago I thought we had no chance at Little from Georgia but now it looks like he might take an unofficial and is definately taking an official. If a few of these guys go elsewhere we are in pretty good shape with a few other top 100 guys that would get offers.

DB is a little more concerning... but with our WR recruiting we may be able to move some guys from last years class to CB.

... but with our WR recruiting we may be able to move some guys from last years class to CB.

We are going to be thin at the CB area next year, but who would you see moving to CB from last year’s class?

west

i think prince is too much of a force on O to be moved

we wont be that thin, Walls, McNeil, Lambert, and Ferrine, with like two coming in with this class makes 6 and west would make 7, not overloaded but not thin, however, we will be really young

wooden likely stays for his fifth year also which would add one more

Gallup and West are both options... both were good DBs in High School. They would compliment Walls & McNeil. Also, you need to remember that we have Wooden through 07 as well as Ferrine and Lambert through '08.

If we get the Kamara, Benn, and Little we could have a logjam at WR so I see a few moving... Through in Brooks, Hemmingway or Jay Smith and we could have alot of movement.

i think hemmingway is going to end up at michigan

smith likely NC State but def an ACC school

we got a real shot at brooks, texas am and LSU would be top competition

I forgot about Wooden having an option for a 5 year. We would be thin if Wooden does not come back in 07. That would give us 4 guys with experience and 2 incoming freshman. If we would be in the dime, that only gives us 2 players to rotate in or have as back ups if anyone gets hurt.

I would like to get Hemmingway or Brooks assuming Kamara, Benn, and Little are all Irish. If we miss out on one of them, which I don't see then I would like both Hemmingway or Brooks.

Yeah, I agree about not worrying too much about the OL.....I just know that as much as we like to see the flash of the skill positions, its the big uglies up front that really make an offense go.

I guess our future secondary really depends on what happens with Grey. The secondary does concern me a bit only because it seems as though we face pass happy teams more and more.

73, I have said this before, but, I think Gallup will end up as an All-American CB. He's got the speed. And his height is adequate at 5' 11". He could stand to put on a few more pounds and will definitely get stronger in the next year. I think by next year he is playing nickel and will start by the end of his sophomore year.

This kid is one VERY determined kid. I'm sure everyone knows about his brother and how his brother inspires his life. This kid will not fail and will exceed at everything he does in life. I think he is a very good football player that will be great because of his heart and desire. By the time Gallup graduates, we will be seeing and saying how special he is.
