Anyways..........I think EG should be "forced" to watch this clip. It will remind him of how good he is. That said, this is the next level and not high school ball. So the defense is going to be bigger and quicker and smarter (coaches as well most of the time). So he has to take his game to the next level. He's shown some glimpses of being a very good qb. In this clip he puts a nice touch on the ball and can find an open receiver. He looks right at home in the shotgun, so why not leave him there, even on run plays? He's got the potential to put up Geno Smith's numbers, he's got the receivers, he's shown he can put the ball where it is needed to make the completion. His running ability is up there with some of the best qb's in the game. He needs to stop being so tentative and just let go. Is it him or the coaches holding him back? I know that him being pulled in the Purdue game and the Michigan game didn't do much for his confidence, but if he's a team player, he has to realize that's part of the game. It's been 2 years since he's been "great", have him watch his high school film to refresh his mind on what he can do, then put him out on the field and let him do it. The Miami game is the perfect game to do just that. It's going to be a high scoring game. I just hope the Irish are on the right side of that score. GO IRISH!!! WordsofanIrishman
When i was a kid growing up in Indianapolis, I remember a season for the Indianapolis Colts where they were doing the impossible it seemed. It all started with the below conversation. Watching what is going on with Golson this year I really feel like Coach Kelly needs to say. Go out there Everett, be yourself and let er' rip. Let's see what he kid can do. ``Let 'er rip'' is the slogan the Indianapolis Colts are living by these days. The Pittsburgh Steelers, with a suddenly potent offense, could adopt the same theme. Actually, the Colts hardly are an offensive juggernaut. The ``Let 'er Rip'' maxim refers to coach Ted Marchibroda's appeal to quarterback Jim Harbaugh early in the season. ``All his life, he has been a quarterback who chose to do the right thing,'' Marchibroda said of Harbaugh, who will lead the Colts into the AFC championship game Sunday at Three Rivers Stadium. ``He always did what the coach or the coordinator wanted him to do. After all, he's a coach's son. ``I said to Jim, `This year, just be yourself.' '' Harbaugh lost his starting job to Craig Erickson before minicamp last spring after the Colts traded with Tampa Bay for a quarterback they felt would spark the passing game. But when Erickson faltered and Harbaugh led them back in four games _ two preseason, then the first two of the regular season _ Marchibroda turned to Harbaugh. First, though, he confronted the veteran, who was a starter for 4 1-2 years in Chicago and most of his first season in Indianapolis. ``He said, `I'm in a no-lose situation. I can do whatever I want,' Marchibroda said. ``I said, `If you start, I don't want you to pull in the reins. Keep doing what you've been doing. Let 'er rip.' ''
IrishWarrior81
Wow does he look good in these clips. Some of the clips are just a product of playing against 16 yr. olds but you can't argue with his arm strength. On the run, 50 yd bullets. I hope that Everett is able to relax and let it fly before the season is said and done. KEEP TOMMY ON THE SIDELINE AND LET EVERETT LEARN BY EXPERIENCE. EddieAngel
KEEP TOMMY ON THE SIDELINE AND LET EVERETT LEARN BY EXPERIENCE. Well said. Not anti-Tommy or anything here, just pick one and keep it that way. Brian Kelly had some leverage this year since we knew we were short on players on both sides of the ball, this was a good time to take an ass whooping or two and let Ev take his lumps. Now we are 4-0, expectations are through the roof, and any loss is going to sting. I just hope we stick with EG and get it done. I think the kid has great character on top of skill. irish21
I think that this team is capable of beating Miami with either Rees or Golson as long as Cierre Wood is getting the bulk of the carries instead of Theo Riddick.
IrishWarrior81
I am also not Anti-Tommy by any means. I am grateful for what he has been able to do off the bench. But if we are looking at this long-term; I don't know how Golson can grow and learn if he is pulled after every mistake or pulled every time the offense isn't being productive. icf
It comes down to this....is it worth a loss (or two, three, or four) for Golson to get the experience by playing every down?? Kelly's job at the end of the day is to win....I don't know that they are 4-0 if Rees doesn't relieve Golson against PU / Michgian. Golson played ok vs PU -- I think he was pulled simply due to the 2 minute offense needing to be ran and Kelly not being sure a tie game with so little time left, was the best time to have him give it a shot. Against Michigan, Golson was awful. That might be due to Michigan's D, Kelly / Rees messing with his head or he just might really not be anything special. However, I dont think they win that game without the QB change. I want / hope Golson turns out to be great. I was very much ready to dump Rees after last season and then his off-field problems after that -- however, I really don't think they are 4-0 now without his help. You are right, we are not 4-0 without Tommy coming in, I think. It is just the "win now" thing that irks. Some times you have to take a few lumps to win later and keep winning vs win now and deal with next year in the spring. Obviously there is always turnover but no one switches QBs year after year after year. You put the work in year 1, take the lumps, and reap the benefits. I know what you are saying, I would just like a little bit of certainty. All good though.
Black Gold Irish
Ok we are 4-0 and we know he can recruit but I dont like the culture he has built on offense. Playing it tight and not to lose will come back to haunt this team. It restricts Everett and others on the offensive side of the ball. Let playmakers be playmakers. Yea Herm,"you play to win the game." There is no room for style points in the win loss column. Blah blah blah BK never played it this close to the vest at Cincinnati. I know we have a great stable of rb's. You can say well Saban does the same thing, but the striking difference is that bama is a closer
