What???? Morris scares you but Barkley throwing to Lee and Woods won't be a tougher test?

Sorry, let me clarify, toughest to date.

Let's relax on Miami for a moment and look at who they've beaten defense wise.

North Carolina St - 65th in total defense, including two games vs. The Citadel and South Alabama. 117th in yards per pass against.

Boston College - 80th in pass defense. 88th in total defense.

Georgia Tech - 70th in total defense. 77th in total defense, just lost by 3 TD's to Middle Tennessee.

Bethune Cookman - Who?

Kansas St. - 46th in total defense, only scored 13 points, gaining 262 yards.

And it isn't like these teams were playing offensive juggernauts to skew their numbers down. These defensive rankings include games against Presbytarian, South Alabama, The Citadel, Maine, Missouri St. and North Texas.

So yes, could Miami beat ND, of course they could, but until they show they can move the ball against a good offense, this overhype for their passing game is probably a little much.

Sorry, let me clarify, toughest to date.

Morris is nothing compared to Denard... sorry, but I do not give much credit for those deeps passes to Morris, but instead to very poor secondary play by NC State.

i didnt see the miami-nc state game, but doesnt nc state have a really good corner that we recruited heavily. i think his name is amerson and he led the ncaa with interceptions last year. did he graduate? or is there another explanation.

No, David Amerson is only a junior this season, and despite having a rough day yesterday (got burned a number of times, including on the game winning touchdown) he's considered one of the best draft eligible corner prospects in the country . . .

I was VERY IMPRESSED with Morris---Our secondary WILL BE challenged BIG TIME---

I could care less about who miami lost to or who they beat and by how much---

I'll use my own eyes thank you--and that QB is going to be a handful---he has an EXTREMELY LIVE ARM--He extends the play--and he has recievers that can get deep---

ITS FOOLISH TO THINK THIS GAME WILL BE EASY IMHO!

The defense is not all that much---but our offense has NOT BEEN ALL THAT MUCH EITHER!

Color me concerned about this next week---personally i like our chances against teams with weak passing QBS-- even good teams like stanford that can't throw too well, then a team that can show up with an explosive passing game.

WE WILL NOT HOLD THEM UNDER 20 POINTS FROM WHAT I'VE SEEN___

Be very careful with this team is my suggestion---RUN THE BALL & CONTROL THE CLOCK__

aloha's go irish!

I agree. Look at the x's and o's we haven't played a team that is "explosive" this season. Michigan is not an explosive team. Denard is an explosive player who is 19th in the nation for total offense (he took a big hit in this ranking when he played us). As we all learned if you contain Denard in the pocket and have the pocket close on him Michigan is not a good team (same case could be made last year).

What's different about Miami is that they truely have team speed. I do believe we will win but do not be blind to their speed. This is a change of pace for our defense because we have not faced a speedy back and a bunch of speedy athletic receivers. This game is crucial to our defensive development because we have beaten a power based offense (M state), option offense (navy), multiple offense (purdue) a one man team (michigan), and now we face a pro offense with speed on the edges. I am looking forward to this game because if our defense shuts them down they will have faced a variety of offenses with off the charts success.

Plus this will be Miami's biggest game of the year so far and probably every other team's biggest game of the year when we play them. Check this out.

Just my opinion.

Welcome Irish Indy.

Solid post; good article.

Yep, the ND game is circled on everyone's schedule.

How big a deal would it be for Miami to delay our return to glory?

Nervous about this game. Hope our bhoys are pumped for every snap.

If we get after the QB defensively we should be OK.

Will our offense show up?

Irishindy,

I hope our players read that story. the convicts sound pumped for this game. I hope we bring the same focus and intensity.

I hope our players are aware of how Faust's last game transpired.

I just re-watched the fourth quarter of that game on You Tube a week or so back...Ara was the color man with Musberger and for the final 5 minutes of the game, after Miami threw the TD pass to go up 51-7 and then sent a punt block to go up 58-7, Ara said NOTHING. Musberger was feeding him lines and Ara stayed silent until at the final 30 seconds he said something along the lines of "I guarantee that from these ashes Notre Dame will rise again."

It was awesome to hear the pure fury dripping from Ara's words at that moment. I remembered watching the game the first time and remembered those words in 1988 when we beat Miami and again when we beat West Virginia. I was too young to remember Ara as coach, but in the waning moments of the darkest hour of Notre Dame football in my lifetime, Ara's words were comforting and prophetic.

Notre Dame should NEVER forget 58-7. EVER.
