Is 11-0 heading to USC...and loses?

Also, if Alabama runs the table, who would get the second spot? A 1 loss ND? A 1 loss USC? Or a 1 loss Oregon team?

USC and Oregon meet in the regular season, so if they meet again in the title game, one of them will have at least two losses. So I think a 1 loss USC team would leapfrog ND having beaten ND and Oregon x2. I highly doubt they can pull that off but...

So let's say a 1 loss ND vs a 1 loss Oregon?

IF (and its a HUGE "IF" until we find ourselves beating the bejesus out of Wake Forest) ND gets to 11-0, AND then loses to USC, it would be a tragedy on the level of the 1964 team...and it would knock us out of the BCS title game discussion immediately...

I'll think about that in November.

Yeah, hard to go there so early...at least, before the first BCS rankings come out (week 8, after BYU). By then, the SEC East and Big 12 will have sorted themselves out a little.

My only initial thought is that USC will play themselves out of this discussion before the ND-USC game.

There's a reason it's better to lose early in the year and your scenario is the reason. A late loss and your out!

Agreed, there is no way ND gets in with a loss in the last game... It will never happen.

Didn't Oklahoma lose to a mediocre K-State team before backing into the title game in 04?

I agree with everything but that. Being 11-1 at the end of the regular season would not be a tragedy. If it was a good game, ND would still be playing in January. I'll take it.

I hear ya, considering where we thought we'd be at the beginning of the year. However, if we're 11-0, and only our bitter rival USC is standing in the way of a national championship appearance, if we lost to them, it would be a tough disappointment, simply because we would be so close, only to have our heart broken by USC, yet again.

However, why the heck are we talking national championship appearance? We're only 4 games into a 12 game season? Come on, guys! One game at a time!

I'll think about that in November.

I with you, week by week

But! If I had to pick, it would be dem dux.

We play Miami this week. Let's focus on them. So many things can happen. Injuries will cost some teams, hopefully not us.

lol Okie, I love ya, but we (the fanbase) dont need to focus on Miami, we can discuss any team on the schedule and what ifs... We arent the team and us looking ahead does not effect the outcome of the game. :)

aloha's

But we read from left to right, so your horse there is before the cart... which is OK. Except that the horse is dead, not to mention being beat on, which is not OK. So what you're saying is, "don't put the cart behind the dead horse." I don't know what that means in the context of this conversation, but I would still agree.

I think we could run the table and not get into the title game even though we had the toughest schedule

ONLY if all 3 of Alabama, Florida State, and Oregon all end up undefeated would that happen. I'd think we could leap frog an undefeated Florida State if we ran the table and knocked off USC on the road in our last game. I also think Oregon will lose one game, whether it be in conference, or in their title game.

Then again, I also think that we lose at least one, and this won't be an issue. I don't know which game, but until I see an undefeated ND team in November, I assume nothing.

Are you kidding me. I hope you have played this great sport of football. If you haven't me let explain. Fans can't look ahead, only players can. Do you honestly think that talking about the future of the schedule as fans has absolutley no plausible affect of the outcome of the season. Your superstitions blind you.

What does it matter if we take it one game at a time. As fans we can talk about next years schedule now if we want.

Take a nap.

I agree. I will be extremely glad with 10-2 or 11-1. I came into this year expecting 4-5 loses. I will take the improvement over last year. I would love to see us play for a NT but I will still be happy with BK and the team for making the progress that they have.
