Now, before the 'Realists' jump all over me, this is NOT a prediction. Hey, doesn't anybody else use that underline thingy??

Β

This is not a prediction yet.

Β

Just Watched Stanford lose to Washington. We will have same game plan as we had against Michigan State. Stuff the run and get after Nunes (qb). Not a great quarterback. Don't see great receivers.

Β

Front 7 on defense is very good. We are at home and should win. Golson needs to develop and should.

Β

So who on the schedule should be favored to beat us?? Nobody!! Oklahoma will lose again before they play us and we will be favored. USC is struggling with the O line and can not take a hit there. So this is not a prediction at this time. Injuries happen. But this could be a special year.

Yep of coarse they can run the table..... My fingers are bleeding from using the delete button. I have many things to say about your ( non prediction ) Notre Dame can run the table thread. Thanks for the positive thread !!

If it is not a prediction then what is it?

I'm waiting till after we play Miami. If Golson is the player I think he is, then you will see the prediction. I don't want to jinx us. An injury to Golson would be very costly. I don't think Tommy will score much against Stanford or Oklahoma. I need Golson to be the player he should be. No more deer in the headlights throwing interceptions.

I'm just bummed that Stanford went out and lost to the Huskies. I wish they could have lasted another couple weeks. I sure hope u are right Okie!

Wish Stanford didn't lose either... it weakens our SOS.

Β

For me.. to say "run the table" means I have to see a average to above average offense.. and especially offensive line.

Β

If the OL clicks, then we have a run game.

As Franco pointed out in another thread, "every game is different". When I was really young there weren't so many variables. The complexities of college football are mind boggling. We certainly have the capability to win them all, but there is not much room for error.

Β

If we don't play respectably against Stanford on offense we could lose. They are very sound and powerful on defense. Stanford must play much better on offense to have a chance against us. Their qb throws a great deep ball, but struggles on shorter routes. If he were to hit those deep routes they could be trouble.

Β

It just seems that each week we are getting better and more capable of taking care of business. The other teams are not as good as we thought. USC was beaten by Stanford. Stanford was the better team. Right now, Stanford may be the best team on our schedule, and we can beat them!

I dont even worry about schedule strength anymore. Just look at Fl State, it's not affecting them. Our schedule to date had been much tougher and were ranked behind them. Style points is all that matters to the voters. ND seems to be the only school that gets bashed about playing soft schedules. Now the media is saying what looked like a real tough schedule is navigable. Only a couple teams in the country could go undefeated against our schedule. There are no games you can overlook and most teams have four of those minimum.

i think we're ranked behind them in large part because they started out in the top 5 and havent lost and we started out unranked.

To a degree. FSU didn't have a great schedule, but they looked dominate.

Β

Ohio St is also 4-0, but they've barely moved at all on the polls and ND jumped them, they played bad teams, but looked very average in winning.

with miami, stanford, byu, oklahoma, wake forest and usc still remaing it's going to be a tough stretch even though a few of these teams don't seem to be as difficult as they once appered. NDs defense is strong with a young secondary coming along each game, i think it's going to come down to NDs running game. if ND can get wood, riddick and ga3 going then the whole offense opens up. even if ND runs the table i still find it hard to see them knocking off teams like bama or fsu. however i do think ND has a shot to do it.

So playing the hypothetical game....What happens if ND, FSU, & Alabama all finish the season undefeated?

At this point, I really don't see a single team ND wouldn't at least have a chance of beating, assuming the offense doesn't go into a total self-destruction.

Β

Sure, FSU looks great, but ND should have beaten them last year with a worse team.

Β

Even as good as Alabama has looked, if ND gets decent QB play, they beat Michigan in a similar way. Alabama likely wins right now, but not in a rout.

Β

If Golson can get a little better than the Purdue/MSU Golson, this team could be really good. If we get Michigan Golson, this team might win 8-9 games.

Β

If we get a Golson who improves every week and makes this a 30ish point a game offense, watch out.

Β

+1 No kidding. So many other schools go 2-0, 3-0 against the local high school teams and you hear NOTHING about strength of schedule.

Β

ND plays teams that can beat us every week and now the media refrain is that the schedule wasn't that tough to begin with -- but where do you hear that so many other schools have been getting fat on cupcakes?

Β

No doubt about 'style points.' Tough to get 'em when you tune up with well-coached, fundamentally sound academy teams and major conference schools. What should be said is do style points really matter when teams are beating up on Inert State?

So playing the hypothetical game....What happens if ND' date=' FSU, & Alabama all finish the season undefeated?[/quote']

Β

Add Oregon in there as well.

Β

That would get dicey. Alabama would be in for sure.

Β

ND would have a better resume than FSU, but would that allow them to jump them?

Β

ND would also have a better resume than Oregon, as Oregon's two "big" wins, USC and Stanford, would also be ND wins, but again, would that be enough to jump them?

Β

ND is seemingly getting a lot of computer love, which would matter in that scenario.

Β

Way too early yet, but it would be a nice problem to be discussing 9 weeks from now.

Bingo. Look at Alabama. Look at Georgia. No really, look at their schedules:

Β

Florida State:

vs Murray State- W69-3

vs Savannah State- W55-0

vs Wake Forest- W52-0

vs #10 Clemson- W49-37

@ South Florida

@ North Carolina State

vs Boston College

@ Miami (FL)

vs Duke

@ Virginia Tech

@ Maryland

vs #11 Florida

Β

Β

Alabama:

vs Michigan- W41-14

vs Western Kentucky- W35-0

@ Arkansas- W52-0

vs Florida Atlantic- W40-7

vs Ole Miss

@ Missouri

@ Tennessee

vs #21 Mississippi State(look at their schedule...)

@ #3 LSU

vs Texas A&M

vs Western Carolina

Β

Georgia

vs Buffalo- W45-23

@ Missouri- W41-20

vs Florida Atlantic- W56-20

vs Vanderbilt- W48-3

vs Tennessee

@ #6 South Carolina

@ Kentucky

vs #11 Florida

vs Ole Miss

@ Auburn

vs Georgia Southern

vs Georgia Tech

Add Oregon in there as well.

In that case, everything depends on Michigan State winning the Big Ten. Oklahoma has a snowballs chance in hell to beat WVU, in Morgantown. So at best, if we beat them, Oklahoma is a 15-20th ranked, middle of the Big12 team. If we beat Sanford and USC, both those teams are three loss teams in the scenario presented(FSU, Oregon, Alabama and Us undefeated) So the real strength on our schedule will come from a Michigan State team that can potentially win their conference and go to the Rose bowl.
