Can't Track offer K. Muhammad a scholarship and let him go out for football? I know he's small but still very nice to have the fastest guy in Cali come here. I don't think we have any Cali commits yet.

Per NCAA rules, if he is on the football team, his scholarship automatically transfers to the football program. Thus, he'd still count against the 85, and would ultimately count in a 25 yearly limit, depending on which year he "switched" to football. However, you can't stash football scholarships in other programs. I believe the only crossover possible is football/basketball, but I think the player would still count for the football scholarship.

Correct, I think it has something to do with revenue generating sports taking precedent or something.

Exactly, otherwise every school would start handball teams and put 40 football players on scholarship there.

He could be on the track team but could not practice with the football team unless he took one of the 85 slots. Not sure how it impacts the 25 limit if he did not join the football team until his second year.

He would impact the 25 man yearly limit in that second year.

Think of it like Silas Redd at USC. He didn't impact last year's signing class of 25 limit, but rather, he will count against their 15 (rather, 18 due to EE's) man limit in this year's class.

We dealt with this year's ago with Will Yeatman. Since he redshirted his freshman year, he was able to continue to count as a lacrosse scholarship, but he originally counted against our 25 man yearly limit. The year he played, he switched over to football scholarship and then counted against our 85.

I'm all for that Cory. I could hear it now. "Hey, we may have finished 8-5 in football, but at least we're back-to-back NCAA Handball Champions!!" Notre Dame would DOMINATE team handball!!

Also, if a player is on an academic scholarship, but plays in football, he counts against the 85 man limit. Nebraska used to give an academic scholarship to one student from each county in the state. Just so happened that every single one of those went to football players almost every year. They were able to play with hundreds of scholarship football players.

Pretty sure that the scholarship counts against the highest revenue earning sport. So a ND basketball-football athlete would count against football. A Duke basketball-football athlete would count against basketball.

Also, I believe that they count only if they are actually competing. If I recall correctly, Maust was on a baseball scholarship even though he practiced with football. It wasn't until he actually played football that his scholarship switched over to count against football.

Irish Illustrated has an offensive master list and defensive master list. It's my favorite thing to look at. Similar to this but much more detail and speculation. Still, thanks for putting this out there NDHoosier. It just shows you don't need a primo subscription if you go to Domer Domain.

ya, I am sure that list has more names as well, but this names on this list are what the insiders or recruiting guru's deem viable options for us... There is one name missing on this list though. Hooper is still a possibility, but A. Muhammad is the top remaining DE for the class.

Is the Irish Illustrated list "premium" information?

Yes it is premium info. Gives a complete rundown of every player, tells which way he is trending, and talks about the numbers crunch. If a kid wants to go to ND, they better hurry. Just a couple guys that we will hold out for till the end.

Your right and your wrong. It does count against the highest revenue sport but not on an individual basis. Football TV money is huge compared to even basketball and the conferences share there money with each other and remember football stadiums can range from 40,000 to 100,000+ whereas basketball is 12,000 to 18,000.

So if a University has a D1 football program it's always going to count against football 100% of the time.

Even at Duke it would be for football.

Basketball at D1 Universities has the same problem as football with the exception that football players can walk-on to basketball or any other sport and not count towards a scholarship limit. But like football, in basketball a scholarship athlete from another sport will count against them as well.

Football and basketball fund all the other sports on average nationally and because of that the have the restrictions because in the past Universities did start bogus sports programs to have more football and basketball players.

The staff is no longer pursuing Tyler Boyd, Ebenezer Ogundeko and Devon Allen.

FWIW as of now NDs class is full even if a couple guys were to decommit there are other very good recruits that would jump on board. Pretty good feeling and cool change from the last ten years. Need to keep this train going forward.

What about S Max Redfield? Isn't he visiting for Stanford?

The class is absolutely not full. Devon Allen said that ND was full at WR.

LJ Moore, Mackensie Alexander, and Al-Quadin Muhammad all have spots in this class if they choose to jump aboard, even if there are no decommits.

Not completely true about being full at WR. We would definitely take Treadwell

Right, we'd take Treadwell but no one else at WR. That was what was conveyed to Devon Allen.

But the class as a whole is not full.

You completely misunderstood what I was saying and/or I conveyed it incorrectly. I meant the class will easily be filled this year (meaning ND "is full" figuratively, my bad). Not that it is currently full at the moment.

Also another note, ND is still involved with Muhammad, Savaiinea, Hooper, Deon Hollins Jr. and Victor Egu.

Savaiinea and Hollins Jr. should be priorities IF Mattingly or Anzalone decommit.....Hollins Jr. may be the next javon kearse and Savaiinea is a very good LB from Hawaii but doesn't want to be compared to Manti his whole career so I don't think we will get him....Don't think with the love for Manti and the large number of fans ND has that anyone will be able to not compare him to Manti
