Its not a pleasant topic-----but we likely will lose a game eventually.

For my 10-3 that gives us three losses to give including the bowl game, obviously the longer we can keep winning the better the chances of hitting that elusive 10 win mark.

I have listed my odds on which team will hand us loss #1---remember this is not what teams we will likely lose to but which team will get us first. So the odds on USC are fairly high because we would have to be 11-0 when we play them for them to be the first loss---11-0 is a tiny stretch for most of us---;)

So here are the odds as i figure them based on a blend of proximity on the schedule and the strength of the opponent.

ODDS THIS TEAM HANDS US LOSS #1--

Miami--3-1

Stanford--even

BYU----4-1

Oklahoma--2-1

Pitt-----7-1

BC-----11-1

Wake--12-1

USC----9-1

BOWL OPPONENT---15-1

The odds go way up after oklahoma simply because the odds of coming out of Oklahoma 8-0 are pretty low---

Give me your best guess---

I worry about all three games coming next--Miami/Stanford/BYU---but i think i like the bye week against miami--i think we are due at home against stanford--and i hate to entertain the idea of BYU beating us at all, yet alone first---

SO MY GUESS IS 7-0 going into oklahoma and 7-1 coming out of it----

SO OKLAHOMA ---

7-1 would be terrrific though and give us a real shot at BCS and /or 11 wins and make ten wins seem very solid---

The next four games do have alot of potential pittfalls though!

what do you think---

aloha's go irish!

Stanford, but I have a bad feeling that Miami will sneak up on us and catch us laying an egg while looking ahead to Stanford. I don't think there is any way this team beats Stanford, but I sure hope they do.

Alabama in the NC game.

I think that as fans, we look ahead much more than the players or coaches. And it does not determine the out come.

Is Stanfordany different than Mich St? Good defense, nice RB, new QB, good, not elite WR, solid TE.

Just like Mich St they play right to NDs strength.

Certainly a tough game, but I wouldn't say ND absolutely can't win.

I had a dream we played Alabama and the score was 6-3. But in my dream I couldn't find out who the winner was.

That would be a heck of a game if the final score was such.

I think our first and only loss is sadly @ USC.

ND...ND loses only if we let someone beat us.

Miami can beat us and ND better be ready.

Texas.

But don't worry, it's the first game, and we'll still rally to win the NC.

;)

What the eff kind of question is this?

Honestly, looking at the schedule and how the teams have performed so far...

There's no team that SHOULD beat us. Obviously anyone can win on the right day but there is no matchup where I think yeah we don't have the ponies to be in the race.

The majority of people probably still believe that Stanford, Oklahoma and USC will beat us....of course these would likely be the same majority of people who KNEW we could not get out of September any better than 2-2 (and maybe 1-3 in some considered circles)...

I believe this Irish team can beat an over-rated and struggling Oklahoma team not because I am a homer or blind loyalist but because their weaknesses are our strength - their O-line is not performing well and their passing game - which was what most people cited as the reason ND simply could NOT win in Norman - has been pedestrian at best since mid-season LAST year. Landry Jones is having one of those "WHY-THE-HELL-DID-I-SKIP-THE-NFL" seasons and bny the time ND rolls into Norman, OU may have as many as 3 losses already. This is NOT OU circa 2000-2002...funny how Bob Stoops was the guy that excited so many when the rumors flew about him taking over before Kelly got the gig...even geniuses have downturns, and OU seems to be steaming into one head first this year....

I similarly believe that ND CAN beat USC this year, even with the game in LA and even with Lee, Woods and Barkley on the other side. USC has not got the depth it needs to have a dominating defense and by the time we face them in late November, our "inexperienced" secondary (again the most widely cited reason that USC was going to destroy ND during the pre-season) will be quite seasoned and tempered by fire.

Much to my chagrin, I think that Stanford gets us in a close low scoring game and that one other team from either BYU or Pitt gets the last second upset (please god, let it NOT be BC again!)...

I think a 10-2 season and a BCS bowl win over the second place SEC team (Georgia?) would be a universally great season...but when I really think about the losses last year, and how many of them were self-inflicted (USF, scUM, FSU bowl game) and that this year's team just looks better in general, and then I start thinking with my fan's heart again...

Just beat Miami and get to 5-0...after that we can keep on dreaming for a little while longer....its nice to see some trees turning color BEFORE the ND season is in smoking ruins for a change....now I could REALLY go for having to actually rake the yard before the first L ruins the season as the next milestone!!

I'm sure not going to predict a team to beat us. Things change every week. If we are trending towards getting better we can run the table. I don't like looking too far ahead. I'm on record for a 5-0 start and I will do no more predicting till after we play Miami. If we are on schedule, Golson plays well, then I shall extend that prediction. But I don't like a thread on predicting a loss. Dang Hawaii, you should have let Echo do this thread.

Shit, your guess is as good as mine. We have as good of a shot at beating Miami by 30 as they do beating us by 30. This team is unpredictable as a prom date with Tourette's and its messing w my mind...

I don't want to get my hoped up but I think we only lose to usc also. They have athletes everywhere and they stack up well against us. However I hope I'm wrong but usc is going to be a tough game.

Now I feel better. Last time you thought that we beat Navy by 40.

Really though, I don't doubt Miami can pull the upset if Golson decides to pull up his inner Tommy again, but surely Miami won't score enough points to beat ND by 30.
