Gary Gray Update

By Kevin McCrarey

Richland Northeast defensive back Gary Gray and his mother met with USC football coach Steve Spurrier and his staff for about 45 minutes today. During the meeting Gray did not re-commit to Carolina and told Spurrier that Notre Dame remains in the picture. Gray's mother apparently was very impressed with Notre Dame. As things stand Gray still plans to visit USC on September 9th for the Georgia game and then head to South Bend the following week to watch Notre Dame and Michigan. He hopes to have a decision shortly after that.

Do you believe that Spurrier only spent 45 minutes with him. It's always nice when mom is impressed by ND.

That's about the best it could have gone, short of him telling Spurrier to got to hell.... good news! thanks for the update broker

He probably only spent 45 minutes because he got frustrated that Gray kept telling him that ND was still gonna be in the picture, lol. I can see Spurrier now taking off his visor and tossing it in the air is disgust, lmao !!!

Ha ha, he was thinking about it when he was acting like he was listening to Spurrier.

45 minutes...doesn't sound like too long to spend with your top commit who is considering leaving you and going to a high profile school who's coach called you. There musn't have been much to talk about, Gray's mind is made up...he will be Irish.

Let's see. How do I say this. I AGREE.

I think we all can relate to this. Why is anyone surprised? Spurrier obviously had a tee time to catch and was running late! We feel ya, Gamecock fans! We once had a coach with a similar work ethic

Ya, I think I remember reading somewhere that Spurrier and Ty had a round scheduled down in Hilton Head so he was in a rush

Gary Gray speaking on his relationship with Quentin Richardson, another big recruit for South Carolina, after decommiting from the Gamecocks:

" We are still going to be friends after this, wherever I go! It really doesnt change me! You've just got to keep a clear head and make the best decision! "

Still friends after what Gary? hhhhmmmmmmmm

Notre Dame needs you kid! Come to Notre Dame and win some National Titles! Put your time and skill to use where it is going to make the biggest impact! Like on Saturdays in that blue and gold uniform when we are playing for all the marbles. You could be good at South Carolina and not win anything and play for a coach that could give a crap less if your there or not. Come to Notre Dame get a great education, make your mother proud, play on national television every week, get massive exposure and be GREAT and each week playing to win it all!!!! Youll compete most every week against the best in the business. If you are the competitor and player Charlie thinks you are you should salivate at the chance to go up against the Calvin Johnson's and the Dwayne Jarretts and better yet to get all the practice you can handle going up against Arrelious Benn and Duval Kamara and probably Greg Little for added flavor in practice every day! Come and play with and against the best! Come to Notre Dame man its about as easy a choice as you can make!!! This trains headed in one direction with or without you! Hopefully with you!

For Gary Gray if he checks out our site here! HAHAHAHAHAHA

gary gray sounds irish to me.

Attention From ND Turned Gary Gray

By Phil Kornblut

Regular contact from Notre Dame coaches, and a lack of the same, perceived or otherwise, from USC led Richland Northeast DB Gary Gray to reopen his recruiting between the Fighting Irish and the Gamecocks. Gray had been a Gamecock commitment since March but de-committed after making an unofficial visit to South Bend last weekend with his mother. Gray's godfather, Duane Wages, an assistant coach at RNE, also made the trip. Gray declined an interview request Tuesday night after meeting earlier in the day with USC head coach Steve Spurrier. But according to informed sources, Gray has been upset over a lack of contact from USC, particulary his position coach Ron Cooper with whom he wanted to build a relationship. Gray has had regular contact from his Gamecock recruiter David Reaves, but according to a source, he had heard nothing from Cooper for weeks until earlier this week. This may have just been a simple oversight by Cooper, according to a source, because he has taken on additional duties as assistant head coach and may not have been able to spend as much time on recruiting as in the past, especially when it comes to a committed player who was thought to be lock solid. In the meantime, according to the source, Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis sent regular text messages to Gray. And defensive backs coach Bill Lewis sent a text message shortly after Gray had surgery in the spring for a broken finger. According to the source, all of this led Gray to feel Notre Dame was concerned about him beyond his football skills. Now feeling shaky about the USC commitment, Gray and Wages arrainged what they thought would be a secret unofficial visit to Notre Dame. According to the source, Gray went so far as to give associates misleading information about his weekend plans. But Gray was spotted on the Notre Dame campus and the visit was exposed on the internet. Tuesday Gray, his mother and Wages met with Spurrier for about 45 minutes. Gray informed Spurrier he no longer was committed and would make a final decision in September after official visits to the two schools. He will visit USC September 9th for the Georgia game and Notre Dame September 16th for the Michigan game.

I think it is all but done. I would be shocked if Gray is not Irish.
