hawaiiirish
This is such a great feeling, its been a such a very long time since something, some win, has given this program such a shot in the arm. It was so great listening to mussberger go " you know kirk one thing i noticed is that GOLSTON__--fella really has a live arm" Listening to Kirk wax on about how tough he has been on ND and its relevancy---like i don't remember--- Watching our boys celebrate while an away crowd sits there stunned! IT WAS BEAUTIFUL! BUT--Answer me this---Do you believe we are as good as we looked ?? Do you believe we can do something special this season?? Do you believe dare i say that a BCS game is possible for this team? You all know i have KOOL_AID in my veins when we talk irish football-- But i have to say i am taking Cierre Woods advice and NOT getting ahead of myself--- MICHIGAN/MICHIGAN/MICHIGAN/MICHIGAN--- If we can beat the DENARD--the QB that has had our number for three years irrespective of how we lead in games late--or dominate quarters--somehow he finds a way to beat us--- If we can BEAT DENARD--if we can go 4-0---going into a bye week with a weakish miami team coming up in two weeks---IF WE CAN DO THAT--then i will be forced to RESET MY EXPECTATIONS! Yes , i believe we are good , i always have believed that. Yes , i believe in our QB, i always have expected alot from him. Yes , i believe in our defense--I called BELL to get only 74 yards he got 77! Yes, i believe in our coaches--they have done a great job getting these often YOUNG KIDS ready. BUT I STILL AM ONLY LOOKING FOR THE SAME 9-3 THAT I HAVE BEEN SINCE GOLSON WAS NAMED STARTER___ BUT IF WE BEAT THE FREAKIN DENARD___THATS IF!! Then I DO BELIEVE ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE FOR THE 2012 IRISH! MICHIGAN---damn---MICHIGAN----NO LETDOWN--I love this feeling and really want to hold onto it for as long as this team and these players will let me. aloha's go irish! fish41
I believe that we FINALLY have a team that believes that they can win any time they step on the field. I believe that they will not quit in any game this year, ahead or down. I also believe that we matched up very well with MSU. Not sure how much to take away from the game because Maxwell and their O is just not that impressive. I feel better about the direction of this team than I have in any recent memory. I believe brother
IrishMax
Good for you, Hawaii! I'm glad you're not jumping over the moon yet, so that a genuine discussion is possible. After all, it's really still too early for BCS talk (although 9-3 is certainly possible. Where that gets us is another story). That being said, the curtain is definitely rising. I suppose this season will rest on how fast and how far Golson matures. He's getting better every game, but he still has quite a way to go. Next year, if he stays healthy (my big worry) and keeps growing, I think he'll be dynamite. As far as this year goes, if we beat Michigan (which I actually think we will), it will all come down to OU, the Trees and Troy. Also how we deal with the BYU and Pitt traps. Those games will still be major question marks IMHO despite the many who will write them off easily. We really do have a tough schedule this year. And, aside from everything else, injuries will occur, so it will depend on to whom and what happens to the next men in, never easy to calculate, since we have good depth in spots and fragile depth in other spots (i.e. see Slaughter and our place kickers). So it's really going to have to be a game by game season, just like BK keeps saying and just like the team keeps echoing. Just look at the upsets that occur every week. Just look at the upsets we've endured endlessly for far too long. As much as anyone would just like to wipe everyone off the slate and start polishing trophies, this team is still too young to do that. Take it from there to decide what you feel. mcdougal93
I'm starting to. I see progress. The defense was lights out good. One game does not make a season but the playmakers are finally here
BI5224
I believe this team is capable in any one game like they showed us last night. I was highly skeptical of last nights game, hostile environment, young secondary (although Shumate and Russel impressed me), young QB, I wasn't sure of the outcome. They certainly showed us they can rise to the occasion and the d-line is taking care of the secondary. But can this team get up every week? Every team seems to get up for us, but that's one game for them. I won't be surprised if / when ND loses. I will be unhappy if they don't fight until the end. They shouldn't have another team call them out after a game like fUSC did last year. Michigan has me nervous. Let's see if we learned anything from the blueprint Alabama has out there. IrishPolock
Confident that the D can keep us in any game... need more progress out of the O though for me to really believe... but I like what I have seen so far
marcwithglasses
I'm starting to. I see progress. The defense was lights out good. One game does not make a season but the playmakers are finally here don't believe yet based on what history has told us. previous coaches all had a few moments, ultimatly before failing miserably. following back-to-back 8-5 seasons bk is due to have some level of sucess (having said that) i am starting to believe and i am giving kelly credit for this 3-0 start. beating michigan is a must! the 3-0 start makes it all the more evident! AlabamaDuck
Kelly wins games and always has. He has won 54 games in the last 5 years and last year we should have been 10-2 but Rees lost two games for us. A lot of fans/posters blame Kelly for the last two 8-5 seasons but when you watch the game the second time it is easy to see why we won or lost. Also, fans/posters can`t get past Kelly turning colors when he loses his temper. But again, and I hate to put the blame on Rees, Rees keeps making the same mistakes that he made in his first game and this drove Kelly (and me) crazy. Without Rees, no purple. Kelly is building a program that we have been waiting for.
domeanddomer
I will defer until after the Michigan game. Diaco will show his chops there. We cannot play the same game plan against Michigan as we did against MSU. Let's see the adjustment. The MSU game did wonders for Golson's confidence as well as his teammate's confidence in him. Defense wins NC's folks. Our Dline if freaking GOOD.
cameroncrazy
I think our front 7 is elite, as we all expected it to be. The younger guys and Offense took a giant leap forward, but there's still so much more to be done. It is certainly a good sign of things to come when you're knocking off top 10 teams with that much room for growth still.
AlabamaDuck
Our RBs should put up big numbers against Michigan and that will make the passing game easier. I think we will stop them (Robinson) more often than they can stop us. I read on one of the boards that Kelly played 55 guys in the first quarter alone. We have some very good young players. MotorCityIRISH
Kelly has made his players believers just take a look at the pre-game speech. Phenomenal! If that doesn't make you fired up, you better check your pulse. The proof is in the pudding or the irish porridge rather!
FaithInIrish Forever
I never stopped believing but Man that defense impresses me with being assignment Correct Those linebackers breaking up hitches and crossing routes. Russell making that pass break up that saved an early touchdown. That defensive line owned the trenches. The offensive line hit them in the mouth in the 4th quarter, and kept gholston from being much a factor. Golson's arm talent is astonishing throwing a pass to theo while falling to his back. So much room for growth too. Little worried about playing Denard because playing assignment correct is not always enough against him. but I'm hoping since our defense carried us against MSU our offense led by the running game can lead us to a win next week as I've heard teams can run on UM this year. Golson will also improve every week!! Fun time to be an Irish fan:) We have the right coach IMHO!!!
echo88
I'm starting to. I see progress. The defense was lights out good. One game does not make a season but the playmakers are finally here Agreed. The entire D seemed to gel this time around. Gotta give Keivarae some love after his shutdown coverage in the endzone toward the end of the game. Textbook.
ndmike88
A win against an over-rated MSU team does not have me spitting jelly beans. Granted the Irish looked good, but its a long season with some tough games coming up. Let's see what they do the rest of the season. I still say 9-3. chirodomer
I think we were this good against FSU. I just think the guys didn't believe in themselves enough. I also think that Golson would've made a big difference with his ability to buy time. I don't understand why he is getting this much pressure though with our o-line. hawaiiirish
Chiro--Golson is getting pressure the last two weeks because PURDUE has the #2 defensive line in the big ten according to the pundits---and MSU fielded the best defense outside of the SEC--- While it is true that both teams--Purdue & MSU did not offer huge challenges offesnively they were both everything you don't want to see on the DLINE. A team like USC for example presents a boatload of challenges offensively but does not really have a STRONG DLINE. Michigan our next opponent falls in that same category---denard is a challenge but their DLINE is simply not going to get after it like the last two. Expect Golson to really benifit from this pressure when we face a DLINE that does not do much( which is "many" of the Dlines we face from here out)---Everett will feel like the game has slowed to a crawl when he gets double the time----should yield some positive results i suspect!- aloha's go irish!
