July 18, 200618 yr He said he will take officials to Illinois and FSU. ND is still #1, Illinois is #2 and FSU is #3. He just wants to take more time and take some officials before his decision. He will now probably decide in late October. He wants to check out the QB's at the other 2 schools. He just wants to make sure before his decision. nothing to worry about.
July 18, 200618 yr This stinks that we will now have to wait a month longer until Benn commits but there's not much that can be done about it. Ha ha, when Benn looks at the other QBs he will wonder why he didn't just commit in Sept. like initially planned...well atleast he will get to see some free games.
July 18, 200618 yr More than Likely Benn is already a silent verbal. Waiting to announce could do more good for ND recruiting rather than us sitting back thinking he'll have a change of heart and commit other than ND. I can't blame him. Go see some great football in the fall!
July 19, 200618 yr If the kid is really a "lock" like many of you think then does it really matter when the kid verbals? The verbal doesn't really mean a whole lot either. It's all about the LOI anyway. Personally, I'd rather have these guys uncommitted as they do their due diligence visiting other schools. As we have seen with Gary Gray, their is much more negative press coverage coming out of a decommit than just losing a player to another school on the initial verbal. Not that we stand to lose Benn, I have no idea about the kid. But, if the worst case scenario were to occur with him (or any other recruit), I'd rather not have it be a decommit. I think we can all take a lesson away from Gary Gray. While a verbal commitment is a big step in the right direction it is not the end-all be-all. I think we all get a little too excited about verbals. NSD is the day to party.
July 19, 200618 yr verbals are worth getting excited about. How often does a major recruit decommit then recommit somewhere else. I know its no LOI but a verbal is definately a time to celebrate.
July 19, 200618 yr Nothing to worry about w/ Benn. Says ND is still in the lead, taking official during Mich game, says will trip to Illinois and FSU as well. Funny, when talking about Illinois trip Benn said no definitive date, that's what happens w/ their schedule, no big weekends in Champagne....Jay Smith will take an official same weekend, Dad couldn't stop talking about Ianello and ND in Scout article.
July 19, 200618 yr Jay Smith will take an official same weekend, Dad couldn't stop talking about Ianello and ND in Scout article. i don't think there's going to be any room for jay smith at ND after benn and little commit.
July 19, 200618 yr oh i think they'll make room for Jay Smith. His dad seemed more than happy about the was Ianello has been recruiting him. I think if he gets offered before his official visit, ND will have a very good chance at landing him also. The four WR's could be Kamara Benn Little and Jay Smith. It all depends who jumps on board first. “Coach Ianello, in my opinion, is one of the best in the nation,” Mr Smith said of the Irish wide receivers coach. “Coach Ianello is good. Through the recruiting process I’ve been trying to talk to all the wide receiver coaches to try to get a feel for them and I’m very impressed with Ianello. Obviously Notre Dame is a big-time vertical program in terms of throwing the football. The offense is nothing but vertical, and I know just looking at the scheme that Ianello loves receivers that can stretch the defense with receivers that are 6-foot-3 or 6-foot-4. I know Jay’s his type of receiver and we’ve had those types of discussions."

ND could have nothing but 6'3-6'5 WRs and with JC throwing the ball ND would be unstoppable. if ND brings in a 4th WR i'd like to see it be either brooks, hemingway, smith or thompson.
July 19, 200618 yr IMO I think Benn has read alot on GG on his Decommitment from USC and looking at ND again.Maybe he is thinking that he wants to be sure and take his officials and then announce to ND IN OCT.
July 19, 200618 yr or maybe he just wants to see a game at FSU, he is a fan of FSU, and go up to illinois and see all his friends on a paid trip do not read into this he is irish, who cares when he announces

July 19, 200618 yr i know scouts and rivals show it as an offfer but i believe i heard that was false blueandgold does not report an offer and they tend to be more accurate
July 19, 200618 yr IMO I think Benn has read alot on GG on his Decommitment from USC and looking at ND again. i really doubt it. if this was the case i think he'd look at other schools instead of Illinois and FSU. he's already said that he dosen't like the QB or the offensive situation at FSU and that UI is more than one good player away from being a good program. he's irish all the way.

What i'm trying to say is that he wants to actually take all his officials before committing. Which i would probably do also if i was in his shoes.
July 19, 200618 yr Guys, stop and think about this for a minute. We were 9-3 with not very many highly touted players. I think that whatever we get will not really matter after JC because CW aka Broker is going to get them bonded together and make it happen. 3 star, 5 star blah blah blah. It's all about coming together as a team. CW always has to try to get the very best talent but then he has to make the team gel. We're good.
