Synoptico 360
Having a discussion with my coworker and need some feedback. If ND and Virginia Tech played in a true neutral site game at FedEx field where the tickets were distributed by an independent party (not either school) what would the ratio of ND to Vtech fans be. Synoptico 360
You have to ask? (imagine smiley face thing here) Well it is a heated debate here. I can explain our two disagreeing arguments after we get more feedback.

nd1baby 0
Fedex Field is in Maryland a little east of DC. Capacity is about 85,000. VT thinks since it is close they can fill it up. ND has mucho alums in the area that would love to take their families to the game.
corysold 0
I suppose some of it would depend on who could buy tickets the fastest. However, consider when ND played in Yankee Stadium, they sold out 54,000 seats. When they played in Ireland, they sold 35,000 seats. Last time they played in FedEx field vs. Maryland, over 70,000 seats were sold, so not quite a sell out. ND fans travel, a lot, but would they travel to see Va. Tech in Maryland? That isn't a marquee game like Ireland or Yankee stadium. I would try to figure out how many of the 70,000 were ND fans vs. Maryland, and that would probably be pretty close to your answer. VT has a much better following than Maryland. Lot's of ND alum in the area and many would come down from NYC to see the game also. I was at FedEx Field for the Maryland game. What an awful venue. Dan Snyder ought to be ashamed of himself...

Everyone knew the Maryland game was going to be a walkthrough. Va Tech would definitely bring more attention and interest I think.

You wouldn't consider ND v. VT a marquee game? I would, but that's just me. Washington's proximity to the millions of Irish fans in the NYC/NJ, Philly, Baltimore corridor would ensure that the majority of fans in the stadium would be wearing blue and gold. It's too enticing to stay away, particularly since there's so much to do in D.C. itself . . .

Last time ND played in FedEx field, it was a pro-ND crowd according to reports, with 70,000ish seats sold. Assuming that would mean 40,000 ND fans then, I don't see why you couldn't get 50,000 for Va. Tech out of 85,000. In the end, it would probably come down to which fans have more money to spend to buy tickets for the game. If you give ND 50,000 out of the 85,000 that would be 59/41 ratio. I think the 60/40 would wind up being accurate, maybe 55/45; I just don't see how ND fans aren't the majority . . .
nd1baby 0
I think ND would definitely represent…they always do…especially against a Name opponent and on the East Coast no less. * http://scores.espn.go.com/ncf/boxscore?gameId=313160087 I think ND would have more, but it depends on who’s home game it is. That’s how the ticket distribution would work is my guess. Oh - and isn't VT stadium capacity only 66,000? AtLeastMySisWasIrish 0
I agree with the 60/40. I really don't know much about VaTech but would have to believe their regional fan base could not compete with our National base and the ability for our's to travel regardless of distance. FedEx would negate some of the distance advantage but feel comfortable with this ratio.
jlgyork 0
Most of my family went to VT, and I live in VA, so I can attest that VT's fan do travel pretty well, as long as it would be more of a regional location as FedEx would be. I think it would definitely bea marqee game that would draw a lot of attention on both sides. I think VT is the only FBS team to win at least 10 games every year for the past 8 years. They just haven't gone the distance. I would say it would be 55/45, either way.
