It's now at 4. If the line gets up to 5.5, the Irish are toast. I'm telling you, when the spread goes up by 3 or more, back in the day, those were my sure bets....90% of the time, or more, that team covered.

And we were a 14 point fave over Purdue...I was completely wrong suggesting to take the Irish so this week I suggest betting Sparty. College lines are far less accurate than Pro...just saying...

For us non-gamblers, can you explain why the line going up so much is bad news?

When the line keeps going up, it's because the big betters are putting a ton of money on one team. The odds makers try to get people to bet on the other team by continuing to push it up. If they have to keep pushing it up, not changing people's, the big betters usually know more than the odds makers.....or someone knows something.

I'll say this, I haven't bet since college, which has been 18 years now. I used to have a "person in the know" give me inside information....for a specified amount of money. College basketball was his thing. There were NUMEROUS times he would tell me so and so's star player will be "hurt" during the game and to bet against them. Games like this had the spread go up by 3 or more points.... I don't think games are fixed as much any more but when the spread keeps going up, the big guys generally know what they are doing..

What if ND is actually really really good and all our players got "hurt" against Purdue so we don't look as good and get people to pick MSU and then in reality we stomp that sweet spartan ass next Saturday night. I'm going with that.

I know the NFL has the home team given 3 points. Is that the same with college? If so, ND started as .5 favorites on a neural field if that says anything.

Last I checked Vegas wasn't a non profit organization either. I think it can play both sides of the fence... They don't know just as we don't know they set the line based of bets place for each team. If everyone is firing on MSU Vegas hopes Notre dame wins. As a rule of thumb home teams give three points most of the time. This rule of it being 5 or higher would mean that every one who bets is a millionaire. Because its just that easy. No logic behind it.

Traditionally, the home team gets 3 points. Period. Of course unless its some SEC playing a cupcake.Oh Wait... that has happened the past 2 weeks. Debate for another time. Bottom line is MSU is a top 10 team playing at home against a #20 team. I say 1 point over the standard home team line is Vegas being conservative and waiting to see where the money comes in from. ND fans are rabid, myopic and rich... Vegas is playing those odds.

But rich for a reason...I never met a bet I didn't like but rarely do anything with ND. It would be interesting to know how much action the books take with ND versus a Bama, SC etc...Back to our spread though, if it stays below 7 I think it begs well for ND in the eyes of those who know.
