hawaiiirish
Yep--i thought kievarae russel played very well--he looks like a keeper! Jackson made some mistakes but had the two picks and some good plays also-- Shumate made a nice play--- Jalen Brown looks like he needs to stay off the field this season if possible--- Hope slaughter is ok thats like critical--- overall pretty good pass defense especially from the corners---- Calabrese & Fox did not look good to me especially on pass plays--- aloha's
DamshaBua
I thought they were going to get torched a couple of times and they really didn't. The longest plays they gave up were the result of blown tackles, an aberration from what has been a good tackling secondary under Diaco. Speaking of Negative Nancy, I'm tempted to go to NDNation. But I just can't do it. I'm sure they are pooling funds for the "Fire Brian Kelly" billboard.
TeoIsAStud
I thought our entire defense played well. Need to work on tackling before we take on one of the best RB's in the country next week.
VCDomer
That's a good thing right? I will go on record. I just watched the game on DVR, thus my late response. I said it in our game predictions that it would be a close game cuz our corners will get torched all day. They made some plays, but oh heavenly merciful Lord, please help our CBs. Purdue is a passing team, but not elite or even above average. I know it will get better, but we are in deep caca if we don't improve quickly. I hope Diaco had plenty of smoke and mirrors to hide the glaring problems. What up Jalen Brown? You gotta do better. The safeties played well enough to help and Motta was a stud today. I would also like to go on record to say our punt coverage and punt receiving team are an embarassment. Someone better get in Neal's ear and tell him he is not the Flash and until we have the ability to block more than 4 guys in coverage, stay away from the ball! goirish83
I think Purdue is at the very least above average and the QB's were a combined 19/37 for for around 200, 2 TD's 2 picks. Not bad at all the stats against our secondary last week against Navy were pretty rough and they took a lot of heat for it so im going to give them credit where its due. Jackson had a couple picks KR had a big sack overall a nice week of progression from those 2 imo.
2lakes
Shumate. Another freshman gets critical (as opposed to meaningful) minutes. If I recall, he made a big play too. Think about all the frosh getting big time exposure again: Golson (red shirt - as a QB, I lump him in with the freshmen) Shumate Russell Day Neal What up Furguson and Brown? Time to saddle up. 97domer
I thought the corners played well - was very pleasantly surprised considering the number of freshman minutes played in our secondary. Though their coverage was a nice surprise, their tackling was very freshman-esque.
Domer Dude
The team had a short week. The O-Line needs to step it up. Kelly needs to stretch the field. We still have the same problem as last year of teams filling the box. Just as we figured out how to defense navy - he needs to figure out what to do when they fill the box. Need D. Neal, Chris Brown, D Daniels and who ever is fast in there now and then to get the defense to step back.
NDhoosier
"negative nancies" dont admit when they are wrong, they gloat about the few times they are right and remind everyone of it every chance they get. Everyone who was FREAKING out (yes, you were freaking out) about the secondary this past week... you were WRONG.

hawaiiirish
No matter NDHoosier--i'm sure there will be something to FREAK OUT about this week as well---not the secondary perhaps but a rotating freak out-- aloha's
jarious
That's a good thing right? Ha, I think all of the 'negative nancies' are still picking their jaws up from Rees entering the game. Plenty of bad tackling across the defense, but on balance the secondary was fine -- especially given the loss of Slaughter. A ton of kids played in a win. tj4ndirish
I was worried about the secondary. I wasn't a "negative nancy" or "freaking out" because I didn't put any posts up to that fact. But, as I said, I was worried, so I was pleasantly suprised that they, for the most part, played well. Hope this carries over to next week, except a little better as the competition just gets stiffer and stiffer as they go along. So, I guess I'm admitting I was wrong I for one had a grin when Tommy hit the field, disappointed he didn't get a TD, but, he did lead the team to another win. GO IRISIH!!!! I know that there is a straw man argument being built here that people who point out the obvious are some how negative nancies, but these are just opinions based on observations. So far this season the cornerback position has been the weakest in our defense. Receivers like lee and woods will have a field day against our starters. I will be glad to admit it if wrong. In fact, I would love to be wrong. Also I hope the Oline gets better very quickly because they'll be tested next week. Today's performance was horrible.
