OklahomaIrish 0
Get ready guys. Our secondary is going to have to defend all day long. Before everybody just cringes let me say a couple things. We are far superior to them and our defensive line will be trying to nail Marve. I can see Tuitt slamming him. We can play some zone. We can go cover 2. We were forced into man to man against Navy. That is why we got burned so bad. I'm looking forward to this game. I think the secondary will get their first interception. Ishaq will have a chance for some big big plays. It's going to be fun. PS: Even if we give up 300 yards passing we will win handily. Throw in some sacks and their rushing stats will wreak. FaithInIrish Forever 5,570
agree. When Cooks and Elliot taught them the defense, it was like This is our system except when we play Navy. Notice when they switched back to their Cover 2 Manti Picked one off. I don't think the secondary is our strength by any means but I think they will be better next week playing the coverages they focused on primarily in camp. We'll show some different looks. We'll zone more and have the double safeties. Remember, to stop the option we used a single safey (Harrison Smith last year) and that is just too much field to cover back there. I have no idea how we will do this week. But this is when we can make more meaningful evaluations. Gonna be fun though!
hawaiiirish 62
I have no prediction on how our defense will deal with a steady passing attack---but it doesn't take much insight to design Purdue's gameplan---- Forget the run--it plays right into NDs strength--- Test their secondary with over 30 passing attempts--they will pass short--pass deep--pass on first down--THEY WILL TRY AND EXPLOIT what appears to be our biggest and one of our few weaknesses. If we survive this it should be great preparation for Maxwell and MSU---- MSU will not give up on the run , especially with the newbie Maxwell--so likely we see more passing from marve & purdue then we will in the michigan games--- Looking forward to seeing what we can do against a pretty good passer---it should tell us how severe our achilles heal will be--- aloha's
NDhoosier 1,336
this game is definitely a game that will tell us how much trouble we are in regarding the secondary... if we get torched by Purdue consistently, then we may have some major work to do. However, if they limit the big plays and tackle well, may not be a big weakness like many seem to think.
toddrhodes 98
I think you'll see a lot more cushion this week as well and *hopefully* no press coverage. Our guys aren't big enough and strong enough to do that against Navy's WR so no way can they do it against the rest of the teams on the slate. At least one of the big gainers for Navy on Saturday was the result of KR trying to press, falling down, and his guy went way downfield unabated. Well depending on how well we contain the run, and I beleive we will, we should see far more deep safety help and trying to keep the play in front. Just hope our pursuit angles get a little better and think this is a huge film and practice week. Hopefully the players aren't too distracted after the Ireland experience and the coaches have their arms around them. I don't know why but Purdue is my least liked team we play but actually see the timing of this year's contest as favorable and excited to see it play out...Go IRISH! IrishOrDie 0
49-13. Our D-Line with KLM, Nix, and Tuitt will dominate the Boilermakers O-line. That's where the game will be decided and with T'eo running around like a maniac it won't matter what Marve and Co. do. Golson gets better in this start. He'll make a mistake or two, but overall, with our run game and D-Line Purdue doesn't stand a chance. This isn't a trap game unless you mean Marve is going to constantly be trapped by our defensive line

Wouldn't that just be so much fun. I am just now coming off a 3 day high. PS; DomerDomain is getting at least two new members because of the weekend. Hope you guys welcome OklahomaTodd and NdChenger. AlabamaDuck 0
Will we see Golson run the option this week???? I want to see the option but really don`t expect it till they have to run it which I am hoping at the Michigan game. I do expect more mid range passes in the 25-30 yard range. JTennant 290
I think you guys are forgetting their garbage points with the last 5 minutes left. I bet they get 2 cheap TDs in the last 6-7 minutes.
ndjohn 0
I'm thinking more like 52-17 Notre Dame. Getting more confident.
