chirodomer
That was the best offensively called game in 5 years for the Irish! Chucky knew when he had the opponent tired and then started calling the kind of grinding offensive plays that just demoralize the opponent! Coach Martin is what we have been waiting for offensively! Go Irish! Purdue coaches are going to be having Chucky nightmares all week!
TeoIsAStud
Lets hope they all are having trouble sleeping before the year is out!
hawaiiirish
Chiro--i think you can see chuck martin's hands all over this team---he is having a major impact and a positive one! aloha's
SmittyisIrish4ever
Meanwhile, Molnar's Umass team looked just like our offense last year... I really think he was forced out. His style wasn't effective and didn't our players. Martin really knows how to get the running game flying. He'll make a star out of GAIII. nd1989
One game in, it sure looks like we made the right move. Pushed out Molnar and moved Martin over.
irishrb
I know A LOT of people on here, including myself, praised Martin when BK was able to get him on board. The guy is an outstanding coach and is definitely making his mark. I absolutely loved watching ND stick to the run this game. Obviously, it was Navy, with Golson's first start, but I really do look for the Irish, with Chuck's guidance to stick to the run more this year. nd1989
I know it was Navy, but you know what, we haven't ran like that in a long time against Navy -- probably since Lou. It was a definite change in the team.
FaithInIrish Forever
replace the fullback with a 2nd tight end and have 3 good backs. Replace Russell Wilson with Golson. anyone hear what I'm saying?
irishrb
Ya, I am really looking forward to see how this offense progresses this year. Obviously, they will see MUCH better defenses, but they have an awesome backfield this year, and those young receivers will only get better. chirodomer
Eiffert was split wide, 3 point on the line, motion, lined up in backfield, one of his blocks from the backfield sprung the back for a TD. I can't wait to see us go 5 wide!
ErickJD08
I think Martin will have a good impact but he had little to do with yesterday. I could have called that game. Navy couldn't do anything to stop the run. I don't want to take anything away from the coaches, but our players were that dominate.
coltssb
Yeah, I wonder how much Martin pulled back offensively on playcalling after the first drive. You could see ND's line just manhandle Navy without much of a fight. I'm sure he saw that too. Let's see what new gadgets and play calling he has set going into Purdue. BleedingBG
Martin has definitely been a pleasant surprise and has great impact on the offense but Kelly calls the plays guys.
jbrown_9999
Martin has definitely been a pleasant surprise and has great impact on the offense but Kelly calls the plays guys. I believe that Martin gives Kelly 2-3 plays to choose from
KellyisNasty
I think Martin will have a good impact but he had little to do with yesterday. I could have called that game. Navy couldn't do anything to stop the run. I don't want to take anything away from the coaches, but our players were that dominate. I guess I am grasping at straws here, but I saw an offense that saw blood in the water and stayed on the attack. I havent seen that in many years. Not even when Kelly and Molnar were in charge. Last year we would have seen Golson flinging it all over the field after they were up by 13. Just my opinion of course. I think Martin knows how to put the boot on the throat. 2lakes
It will be interesting to see how our passing game develops on O, and how quickly before we meet a team who decides to put 7-8 guys in the box and challenge Golson to throw it. The thing I like about that eventuality is: 1. on a draw with GA3, once he gets 5 yards down field, he's gone, 2. this would be where we get to see how good guys like DaVaris, Ferguson, and Brown are on longer routes and at the boundaries, and 3. our slots/RB's, Eifert, Koyack, and Niklas get to shine on quick throws. chirodomer
I don't think there are any coaches that are going to stack the box considering Golson threw for over 11,000 yards in high school. Obviously, he can get the ball out. I think once we go up against USC we will see them try that and then we will see if Golson can work his magic. Let's not forget that Golson can take off if he feels he doesn't have an open target and then that's when we will really out the hurt on some people. Now we just need that Clausen to Tate swagger and this team will elevate!
