piratey
Who cares if the game plan called for us to play the pass soft. Who cares if we only gave up TEN points. Who cares if we had like 6 sacks. Who cares if everything other than ones slip and the opening drive of the 3rd quarter went according to the gameplan. Who cares that we win by 40, scored 50, ran for 200+yds, looked dominant on the d line. Who cares that MSU looks awful on offense and Stanford looks worse. Chalk up 5 losses. Let's spend the entire next seven days bitching about the secondary.

Apparently 50 isn't impressive for our ivory tower fans. No wonder so many fans of other teams think irish fans are certifiable. Good post bud. irish21
Who cares that our corners were beaten more than once for gains 30 yards against the least talented WRs they will play all season.
corysold
Who cares that our corners were beaten more than once for gains 30 yards against the least talented WRs they will play all season. That isn't the defense they will be playing all season either.
rocket31
agreed with OP. CB is the most difficult positon to master against an option team. not concerned, especially since no one will ever be as bad as gary gray was last yaer
toddrhodes
Who cares that our corners were beaten more than once for gains 30 yards against the least talented WRs they will play all season. That was world record time. Who else are we going to play M2M with basically fresh corners?
ObieKnobbe
LOL AGREED Piratey! GREAT game by our Defense today... You didn't mention that we probably were preparing our db's for a running navy team not one that passed as much as they did also. Very excited about our team this year. ISHAQ is going to only get better and he looked pretty damn good today. Manti looked great in coverage, nice pick.... Motta was flying all over the place, Tuitt showed some beastness (no pun intended Mr. Lynch), Nix played well. Very good looking game for the D today for the first game of the season IN IRELAND. TeoIsAStud
Was very impressed with the win. first post on the site. But it kinda sounds like that was dripping with sarcasm. Secondary is very young and very inexperienced, and Coach really didnt let the Qb throw a whole lot. Kinda wish they would have left the Golson in there the entire game to get some reps. Only time will tell. And we defintely have had worse first games that for sure.
irish21
That was world record time. Who else are we going to play M2M with basically fresh corners? I'm not sure what you are saying here, but the CBs for ND should be able to cover the WRs for Navy.
NDBadaBing
We're not going to be in man like we were for most of today in which you have to run committ single-man coverage to three running backs and a quarterback. They hit on a handful of passes after we got out to a big lead, but I also think our team-coverage schemes will be more condusive to defending more conventional offenses later in the season. toddrhodes
I'm not sure what you are saying here, but the CBs for ND should be able to cover the WRs for Navy. So we have another with unrealistic expectations out of a very young secondary. Shocking. They're going to need some help, anyone who didn't see that is blind but birching about it and predicting 3-9 seasons because they had one really bad drive is really frustrating. We're they good? No, not really but they will improve and the scheme going forward should mask their faults to some extent. Coming out and berating their play is shortsighted at best. piratey
Im up for this....cornerbacks looked awful Obviously... dude they have 3-4 players in the backfield where all are a threat to run. You want us to play zone and let them gash us like in 2008? Man to man, tight, preference given to the run. To judge our secondary on the game today is absurd. IrishKevin
Well, I think we all know what we need to work on (besides the kicking game)!
NDhoosier
cornerbacks looked bad, but against a Navy option attack game plan and fresh faces for ALL of the CBs, i think we will be fine. People forget that Slaughter played LB all game, not safety, so his presence will help the secondary as well.
NDBadaBing
I'm not sure what you are saying here, but the CBs for ND should be able to cover the WRs for Navy. unless you're like, ridiculously special you're gonna give up plays in man coverage even against a team like Navy. The real key is we held them to a 3.0 yard per run average, which forced them to throw it more than they do and they hit on a couple of big gains. IrishOrDie
I thought the secondary played fine given the inexperience and the fact they played man to man. Russell looked like he had a few technique issues, but I expect Elliott and company to get that fixed. We'll be fine.
