there is talk over on mgoblog about college game day going to mich for our night game with them. they are also supposed to honor desmond that night.

not sure if all true, but sounds like it.

what do you think? is it good for mich, good for ND, good for both teams?

and

do you think it hurts our chances of having college game day come to ND for our night game against usc?

naw, college gameday goes to the game with the best draw...

there have been to game sites that feature a team they've been to before.

last year, off the top of my head, they had OSU twice, Oregon 3 times (counting the NC game of course)

Our chances with the USC game depends entirely on both teams records IMO. I won't make predictions about what ours would be, and USC has some serious question marks heading into this season and what happened to them last year.

True, but the first ND home night game in over 20 years has some pull as well.

Plus it IS USC vs. Notre Dame.

I have to imagine the list of match-ups with names this big and a rivalry to boot has to be very, very short.

I think it would be great, but isnt the game going to be on NBC? I cant see ESPN pimping a game that wont be on either ABC or ESPN. Obviously games are played on CBS also and im sure ESPN Gameday has been to schools which played on CBS that day.

I hope it happens, Im very excited about playing USC at night, hopefully itll be a good night.

Were they not there for 2005 "bush push" game....

Good question, I cant remember.

they were there during the 2005 game

I broke this down in another thread, thought it would be worth reposting:

My first reaction was, "naaah no way do they advertise the ND game to go head to head against their ABC/ESPN/ESPN2 night games..." Then I researched what 10/22/11 looks like for CFB.

Potential night games:

LSU/Auburn

Bama/Tenn

Oklahoma/TTU

Okie State/Mizzou

Michigan State/Wisky

Stanford/Washington(see I'm reaching..)

So many byes, Florida, Georgia, tOSU, Nebraska(they play Minny..), Pitt, SCar... Oregon plays Colorado, Texas plays Baylor, WVU plays Cuse, VTech plays BC, Boise plays Air Force...none of those have any luster at all.

Where else but South Bend can you justify Game-Day on October 22nd given the list above? You have to assume Game-Day will be in Ann Arbor(It's either that or in Happy Vally for PSU/Bama, I give the nod to the first night game in A2)

We ought to get a lot of attention from the World Wide Leader this year...we need to make it count.

That Saturday the 22nd in October is ripe for the Irish.(Assuming we have less than 2 losses)

We couldn't get national broadcasting for the USC game last year. This rivalry is not what it used to be. Hopefully that will change going forward.

piratey, my bet is on the LSU/Auburn game. you know ESPN is all up on the SEC's nuts.

don't think auburn will be all that good next year though...both USC and ND need to be undefeated or at most have 1 loss a piece for us to get Gameday imo

I've seen the College Game Day crew at ND stadium on a few occasions, so they will promote a game on NBC.

Yeah if we are 6-0 or 5-1 , and SC is 5-1 or 6-0, also if we start out in the pre:wacko: top 15 (imho #22 w/o Floyd, 11 with) so we may be top 10 maybe #7 or #8, now pair that with first Notre Dame game at night since forever, and two undefeated rivals or 1 loss, yeah we could get it.....

I think it depends more on our record than the Trojans. I think the Trojans can come into town 4-2 or even 3-3 but if we have anything more than a single loss they'll be be in Death Valley. A lot of weight is behind the first night game in South Bend in over 20 years.

If we can pass through weeks 2-4 undefeated, there is absolutely no reason we won't be a top 10 team.

Instances game day showed up in South Bend

1993 #1 Florida State at #2 Notre Dame (1st ever College GameDay ever)

1994 #6 Michigan at #3 Notre Dame

1995 #5 Southern California at #17 Notre Dame

1996 #4 Ohio State at #5 Notre Dame

1998 #5 Michigan at #24 Notre Dame

2000 #1 Nebraska at #25 Notre Dame

(The president of ESPN George Bodenheimer, took a 2nd job in 2003 to also head ABC Sports)

2005 #1 Southern California at #9 Notre Dame

In 2006 ABC sports was merged with ESPN

Draw your own conclusions. Do you see a commercial for "House" on CBS? Or a commercial for CSI on NBC?

I was thinking that they were in South Bend for the Michigan game in 2006, but I haven't verified that and could well be wrong. It does look like they're not eager to promote games on NBC. However, I can't think of a game at ND stadium since the 2006 Michigan game that would merit hosting ESPN Gameday.

Okay i broke down the last 3 years...home team record. :

(bold means higher ranked team won)

2010:

10-4

Losing home teams: Oregon beat USC, TCU beat Utah, OU beat Okie State, Oregon beat Beaver State.

2009:

8-5

Losing home teams: USC beat tOSU, Iowa beat PSU, Florida beat LUS, TCU beat BYU, Oregon beat Arizona

2008:

9-5

Losing Home Teams: LUS beat Auburn, Bama beat Georga, PSU beat tOSU, Bama beat LUS, OU beat Okie State

So really in the last 3 years, the home team that was higher ranked only crapped the bed twice and it was Penn State and Georgia.
