Two guys I have posted on since high school are Bennet Jackson and Tyler Eifert. I think both of these guys are better then what we thought they would be. I don't have to say a word about Eifert. You all know what he has done and what his potential is. But Bennet Jackson is also making headway. He first opened eyes on special teams when he gets downfield ahead of everybody else and makes the tackle. Next we allowed him to return kickoffs and we had instant improvement.

I was listening to a video of Harrison Smith. The first guy he mentioned when asked if there were any surprises was Bennet Jackson. He said it is a tough transition to go from offense to defensive backfield, but Jackson is turning heads. Kelly has mentioned his length and we all know he has good speed and athleticism. He has superior leaping ability which bodes well for going up for the ball. He has pretty good hands as he is coming over from the receivers. He had several interceptions in high school so he has played there before. I remember going over the roster looking for someone we could move to defensive back and Bennet was my man. I admit, I never thought about Collinsworth, but Bennet Jackson will be a player. He will be a backup and sometimes a nickle back this year, but will be a starter in 2012 against Oklahoma.

yep i agree with this---nothing to be said about eifert accept i think he will be MORE PRODUCTIVE THEN RUDY---his lay out catches were shark like and generally i see him as maybe OUR MOST POTENT PASSING WEAPON even beyond Theo--Eifert just MAKES ME HAPPY_:grin:

Bennet is one of my favorite players--i posted earlier he will be one i am going to be looking at very closely in spring and HOPING he can make the switch ---he is a good tackler--he is fast--he is aggressive--he was just CROWING ABOUT HIS SWITCH TO # 2---I get the feeling he is thrilled at his opportunity---So the quotes you give from harrison are just WHAT I WANT TO HEAR---bennet brings as much enthusiasm and want to as the polynesion players-he is just mr excitment to me---we will all be very happy if they can coach him up at CB----can he backpedal with speed?--can he get learn those cover skills?----I THINK HE CAN AND HOPE AND EXPECT HIM TO BE A REAL IMPACT TONE SETTER AS HIS CAREER UNFOLDS!

I agree both Bennet and Eifert really excite me there both great players...Bennet is just a natural athlete and i cant wait to see what he can do at the new position

If Jackson can master the basics of assignments this year, that would certainly be a huge boost to our secondary this year. I admit I'm taking more of a "show me" approach with Jackson, but its safe to say he's a really intriguing prospect whose passion was infectious last year. Really I'm just waiting to see what he looks like out there, but he's got the demeanor of a kid you shouldn't bet against.

I would agree Calves...i would not expect him to step in and master the secondary position right away but just from Bennet's little experience last year you can tell he was born to be a football player and like you said he seems like the type of kid you shouldn't bet against so i wont ha

Coach Cooks' move to CB coach will give the new kids some really good coaching---Bennett Jackson is a player--he played DB in HS and as

noted he is fast, tough, and energetic. He probably will back up Blanton

and Gray and get lots of experience.

All 4 of the new kids coming in this year are 6-0 or better and all were sprinters on their HS track teams, as was Bennett. 2012 will have a

bunch of tall, fast and hungry kids playing corner. Then add Tee Shepard

top corner who is the #1 verbal this year.----Lookin' Good.

Right on Oklahoma. Jackson possesses the ideal frame to be an elite cover 2 corner, he has a great reach to achieve that crucial jam on a wide receiver that ND needs. Also possesses the ability to tackle in space, he displayed that on special teams last year. I also think his speed will really show because he does not have to to worry about carrying the ball. He has the talent, I have all the Faith in the world in coach Cooks and coach Martin to teach him the technique. The sky is the limit for Mr. Jackson!!!

Go Irish!!!

I watched videos of Jackson running (and winning) the hurdles in high school. to me this is a rare breed of an athlete. He will be able to time his jumps better then the receiver in most cases. His footwork should be impeccable.

I think BJ is going to be a good one.

Cooks was working with the cornerbacks last year already. it's just in name now and he's no longer goign to be working with the OLB's

I personally like the idea of having the ball in Bennett's hands (more than kick-off returns). Guess we need him on the defensive side though...

I was looking forward to seeing him on the offensive side too, especially with that speed and leaping ability, buy hey, those skills translate equally to the defensive side. I want to see INTERCEPTIONS.

Early reports have Bennet looking REAL GOOD TODAY and catching alot of attention with his play and rapid development---I think we have a real WINNER HERE for a defense that already is just LOADED---lets call this a briliiant switch by Coach Kelly in trying to get the best players involved------Bennet will see lots of action this season and looks to be a good bet TO HAVE A POSITIVE IMPACT!

He looked to have gained noticeable muscle mass since last year from what I've seen in the practice videos. Bennet and Tee the shutdown corners after Gray and Blanton leave?

I think BJ is going to be a good one.

A BJ always begins with so much promise, but alas, most just turn out bad...

OOOOHHH...you meant Bennet Jackson...my mistake.

But seriously, can colleges please teach courses to America's young ladies...

Not only did Bennet Jackson make the hit and a strip on one play, he also intercepted Hendrix on an out pattern. Maybe we can't read too much into this as Lo Wood also had a pick six, but I am feeling really confident in Jackson's ability and Kelly's wisdom.

Jackson does look like he doesn't have pencil arms any more. Its three days of spring practice, but the beat guys are making note of his play in a positive way. Its spring - everyone looks fast, stronger, more decisive, bigger, etc this time of year - but its good to hear that he doesn't look like a lost puppy out there, and that he's not rail skinny either.

I am a fan of Bennett too. He needs to work on shorting his strides so his feet don't get tangled up. Train those quick twich mucles. He knows this and the coaches are working on that.

Probably a very good point seeing that he was a hurdler in high school. I'm sure it will be an easy adjustment as he has played corner and special teams. In high school he was 155 and I predicted he would be 180 after a year in our system. He can still get a bit bigger, but will be very productive at his current size. Bennet will make plays....Big Plays!!!

Jackson continues to improve and shine in practice. Has been given Darrin Wall's #2 jersey and during 3 on 3 drill he defeated his block, made a big hit, lost his helmet and came out of the pile with the fumble recovery. Kid still has plenty of time to develop but sure is looking good at this point.
