How long do you think we can expect to keep coach weis? i think his goal is head coach in the NFL, so what do u think? i say throw as much money at him as possible to keep him in SOuth Bend

He received a hefty 10-year contract last year to keep him in S. Bend. Maybe I'm naive, but I believe he has his dream job, moreso than an NFL team. He recently built a new home and has said that he expects to see Charlie Jr. through college at ND. He is already amongst the highest paid college coaches, after one year...so the answer to that, IMO, is he's here until he sees fit to retire.

I do not expect him to stick around forever, but I believe him when he says that ND is it for him. His goal was to coach at ND, and he is doing that. I do not think he will leave for another job.

Like Ara and Leahy, Charlie will retire after his years at ND and never coach again.

i agree charlie is ND and doesnt leave for the NFL if he wanted the NFL he could have had it just like all the pats guys, he signed a 10 year deal to stay till lil charlie was through school...i say he lives out this contract and then you never know, i think from their it really depends on family issues, his daughter and such and i think it depends on his health, so i say after the 10 years either retires or keeps going for more, but doesnt leave ND for another job

He's NOT going to the NFL!

As noted above he's stated a desire to see his son graduate.

He has a daughter with special needs.

He's a family man. That's important to him.

He has a passion for excellence, for football, and for his family.

Notre Dame, under Fr Jenkins, allows all those things to coexist.

How long will he be an ND?

Who knows? You might get run over by a truck tomorrow.

No coach at ND has been there longer than 13 seasons. Only Rockne, Leahy, Parshegian, and Holtz were there longer than 7. Rockne had serious health issues when he died in a plane crash. Leahy, Parshegian, and Holtz all had health issues when they left ND regardless of the circumstances of their departures.

Charlie had health issues before he got to ND. His weight is far more a concern than jumping to the NFL.

No SWEAT on Coch Weis. I know Coach Dan likes to yank the chains of you guys here of Charlie to Green Bay. (It's Coach Dans dream) I told him tell Brett to suck up another year and draft Brady Quinn. :)

But it's his love of Notre Dame. It also is his word. He wants Charlie Junior into ND. Health and beyond 10 years? If he misses coaching and doesn't want to sit on the beach, it won't be another college like Lou did.

I couldn't imagine a replacement he's a big (no Pun) guy and leaving large everyting to fill. Assistants? Diferent story maybe 2007 or 2008 we get raided, he did say he has plans in case. He wouldn't stop one from wanting to improve. It's also his "Coaching 101 school" for assistants.

One thing we also have to take into account is that compared to being an NFL head coach doing what he is now is a cake walk. NFL guys have the worst family situations of anyone around. It's not like "Coach" when he got a job with the Miami Breakers. These guys eat crap food, sleep in their offices, review game film constantly. Ohh, and at the end of it they're almost always fired.

As opposed to having better hours (Charlie's even admitted that), more time with the family, a more flexible schedule, being extremely successful and knowing how to succeed, oh yeah and being a virtual god on campus. If I were in Charlie's shoes it would take a truck load of dead hookers to convince me to leave Notre Dame for the NFL.

Damn Blue, you really got it in for these hookers

 I'm not much for gambling I sure would like to follow blue to Vegas though

Sorry, there was a typo in my last post.

Where is said: "d-e-a-d" it should have read "d-o-u-b-l-e"

And where it said: "h-o-o-k-e-r-s" it should have read: "q-u-a-r-t-e-r p-o-u-n-d-e-r-s"

Stupid key board typos. Remember, if I was in Charlie's shoes I'd get REALLY hungry.

I moved the thread to Gen discussion.....

anyway I think Weis stays through his contract(10 years) for most of the reasons stated above.

rumor has it that coach charlie will leave at the end of the 06 season , if he wins the national championship game, seems like my son in law a MICHIGAN fan, wants charlie weis to come to ANN ARBOR. sorry irish fans, but there is a little truth in this

I'd assume the little truth is that your son in law wants him at Ann Arbor. Tell him to keep dreaming.

Ahahah Rick your needling the board like Coach Dan does Charlie to Green Bay  Hmmm Son in Law? Well some day they might no be one

You can have my one B in Law "Big Bill" Gad will he go out of his way to needle me over ND.

Weis will stay until he is no longer with us or until he retires. He has said it over and over again, he built a house in South Bend to RETIRE HERE, wants his son to attend the university, and when asked the question says the same thing....I gave them my word to stay and I wont go against that, this is my dream job and Im going to stay here till I cant coach anymore, period.

"Morning News writer Jean-Jacques Taylor thinks the Cowboys may try and lure coach Charlie Weis away from Notre Dame if Bill Parcells walks away after this season. "

Just saw this on Foxsports.....I stand by my previous post.

Jean-Jacques????? What do the french know about the Irish?

:D Hey Scotty the name Notre Dame is French. But I understand what you mean. Don't worry about Charlie or rumors. :)

Gotcha Bat, I meant no offense to French Irish fans, Jean-Jacques can suck le blow starting rumors like that

oking too Scotty when it'sime for Notre Dame Stats everyone please take Coach Dans desire for Charlie in NFL GB lightly. He is ND but also GB so torn. We both know boobs managing Green Bay now. He said Brady Quinn and Shark to Green Bay and he would be happy. I told him the only way GB could draft them is if Brett, stumbles and throws a ton of interceptions. So we both agreed to Boo GB 2006.
