Defensive lineman Josh Brent visited Notre Dame on Saturday, his third trip to South Bend in the past couple of months. The 6-foot-3, 280-pounder from Bloomington, Ill., took part in the adidas Elite Camp held on campus. He had hoped to impress the Irish coaching staff enough to earn a scholarship offer but now feels Notre Dame might be looking in another direction.

We are soo thin at DT; why not offer him. Who cares if he is our 4th or 5th DT choice this year. Peronally I think we need depth at this position.

Agreed 10Brady: I sure wish we would be getting D commits. I'm positive Weis has a master plan and knows what he is doing. My problem is I'm not Weis but a mere mortal and getting nervous.

I don't think we should be doubting who the staff is offering and who they are not. They are not going to settle for a guy, nor should they. Let them work their plan. Who are we to say who should get an offer and who should not.

i agree, this staff always has a plan and im sure there are things unfolding behind the scenes we do not know about

And I remember last year that they had a plan and I believe that it fail through right at the end.Because we end of waiting to the last minute to see what school they were going to choose.Anyone feel that we have a better chance this year with the A group.or Does anyone have any news on these Def.L. we have already offered?

look people always bring this up, it wasnt our fault mccoy didnt end up irish, he was irish, he had given his silent verb, and then at the last minute circumstances changed, lets just say personal circumstances within his family, there is nothing we can do about that, the plan didnt fail, he was in and then there was a drastic change at the last minute with nothing we could do...this year is not the same, the only person i feel like a spot will be held for till the last minute is Austin and thats just becuase he is a special talent at our biggest need, but if thats the case rest assured other dt's will be on board

Please stop bringing up mccoy like we were just holding out hope he woudl be irish, that wont happen again, and if by chance it did there woudl be other dt's already verbed, last year we had mullen already verbed, i think this year you will see two other dt's already verbed if we wait on austin

Just because we have a plan in place, that doesn't mean it will always work. TD is right, we were in on McCoy until circumstances (and something else) happened. When the prize is big, such as McCoy and Austin, you take chances. The elite programs have to wait on guys like that. Some of the premier guys always wait until NSD. Just how it is.

I think the McCoy situation is a VERY poor example of a plan not working.

Yes indeed.I would have to agree with that.

Stuff happens. With McCoy, he needed to be close to home because of responsibilities that didnt' exist at the beginning of his recruiting.

Oglesby's grandmother has cancer. He also wants to stay home.

I can't fault either one. But you have to take things into account and cover all bases. Good DT are hard to come by and so far the only guy I'm confident about is Barksdale. Forget Blackwell and Luther Davis, Austin is 50-50.

ND could have Myles Wade and Josh Brent if they wanted. Throw in Barksdale and hold out for Austin until the bitter end.

i think wade is going to heat up quick, i hear pollian is going to go out and see him and theres a good chance after he sees him in person that wade may get offered, and once wade gets offered watch for him to verb rather quickly IMO

Guys remember who Polian's daddy is!!!!!!! The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. He WILL be an NFL GM in the next 5-7 years. Watch and see!

With Wade, I am pretty sure that we are the only non-Pac 10 school that he is interested in.

:) Yep! Charlie's groing Brian Poline for the future. There's that usual 3rd year jump, I just haven't wanted to consider yet when those times come a coach leaves. Too much on the plate now which is a wonderful feeling

I actually hope we sign Brent as soon as possible. He is an enormous kid with a big upside.

In a perfect world, I would want Austin, Luther Davis, Barksdale, Brent and Wade.

We need a rotation in there and let's face it we have no depth whatsoever. At day's end, one or possibly two guys will not be as productive as advertised too...

5? no way do we take 1/5 of the class at that position

3 is likely i guess 4 is possible

i say brent ends up at illinois even he made the comment that hes probably not up to the level of what ND is looking for, but u never know if a few DT's pass he coudl be up

Luther davis i think picks Michigan or LSU, just a guess

im hearing nicholls is close to getting an offer, he would be another good DT to land, better than brent about equal with Wade in my eyes

I saw a Trojans Break t-shirt on campus last weekend. Nevermind.

Blue, that looks like a "racing to 1000 posts" kinda post.

I figured it was mildly apt considering McCoy's situation.

Wade needs to get lower in his stance, which can be taught. Great speed and motor.

Brent, I believe, plays DE in high school right now?

Luther Davis will come to Notre Dame...as an opponent or guest on an official visit. He seems like an LSU and Miami lean.
