OK.... Analyze the schedule and include the bowl game. How many games do we win in 2010. I'm going to go on record with a prediction of 10 wins. It will be so important to come out of the gate strong, but I am confident we will be good enough to win double digit. I wish I could rearrange our schedule and start with Western Michigan and Tulsa, but it is what it is. I SAY TEN WINS IN 2010...

I will concur with OklahomaIrish about 10 wins is what I'm predicting also. Minimum 9. Less than 9 wins total would be viewed as somewhat disappointing imo. Losses will occur @ MSU, @ USC, and hosting Utah or @ BC. I think the team will draw a good bowl game and will be fully into the new schemes leading to a bowl victory and carrying strong momentum into year 2 of the Kelly tenure.

Should be a really exciting season. Hard not to be excited about this new coaching staff and a brand new season. :-)

99 i agree with your 10-2 mark IF THE IRISH WIN THE FIRSTthree games, they will still have problems with navy and BC, and maybe the utah team , i expect that they will beat usc if we can win the first three games, msu always gives us a tough game as well as the wolverines , a Michigan win will save rich rod's job for the season , a loss to ND will get him a vacation at the end of the season . i just hope the Irish can make it to a bowl game i prefer to wait to see how t hey stackup AGAINST THE WOLVERINES , THIS WILL BE THE KEY GAME FOR KELLY .;)

I can't/won't make a prediction this year. Too many variables. New coach, new system, new QB, 3/5 of the OL is new, how much of the D's problems were coaching and how much was talent (or lack thereof)?, can Harrison become a solid player?, etc, etc.

Come on Ian....stick your neck out.....That's what makes it fun. None of us know the future. Even the most educated of us are often way off.....like last year. Nobody knew how much our defense would suck last year. I fully expect our defense to be extremely improved and to have some depth. If our offense scores quickly it will allow for a lot of reps for our defense. Yeah, some guys are going to say this will wear down our defense......BUT....I think we have some DEPTH this year with guys like Newanka.....jeeeezzz...did I spell that right. I know you know who I mean. Also, look for guys like Cwynar and Neuman. It's time to step up and STOP THE RUN.......Force em to put the ball in the air...... The games will be 5 hours long and we will LOVE EVERY MINUTE OF IT!!!!

Seven wins...

Those are fair points, Oklahoma. Here goes:

Of the 1st 4 games, I see 3-1. I think the most likely loss of that bunch is (if any) MSU. I think ND takes Purdue solidly, ditto UM. With Toby Gerhart (sp?) gone and playing @ South bend, Stanford's very winnable.

I still think last year's D problems were one of scheme rather than lack of talent. You had man cover guys playing a weird zone D. I like Chuck Martin a lot, and I do see major improvement there. Walls will be playing for one last shot at the NFL. I remember him being compared to a young Troy Vincent.

The next four, the only loss I could see is Pitt. I'm trying like crazy to get out to the BC game (anyone knows where to get tickets for that one outside of the eBay/Stubhub ghetto, please let me know. The BC ticket folks said that the BC-ND game will not be available to the public). Pitt will come down to coaching. Last year, Kelly beat Pitt with less talent. They shut down Dion Lewis after the half. We'll see. I'm worried about their all-world ends versus our green tackles.

And we damn well better beat Navy.

Last 4 will be tough. God, what I would give for a win over USC. That's one I want to wait for the season to predict. Right now, all else being equal, I can't see ND taking that one. It'll be a hell of a game, but there's just too much there. I don't think that Kiffin is that great, but he can bring in talent, and his dad can coach D. If ND has a head of steam going into that game, and USC stumbles a bit, they could take it. I don't know anything about Utah. I watched them whip Alabama, so I know they can play fast. I hope ND doesn't pencil that one in as an automatic W.

Looking at the overall schedule. The toughest tests are late in the 1st 1/2 of the season and at the end. That does make me confident that they can get the system together and gel in time for the hardest games. I think the Purdue and especially UM D's will be forgiving practise runs for the next three games. I think they get by MSU and Stanford, but I think Pitt D matches up too well with ND's O. Utah scares me, and until I have a reason to pick ND over USC, I have to say, USC in LA goes to USC.

So yeah, 9-3.

no worse than 8-4, no better than 13-0 ;)

We didn't FIRE COACH WEIS & HIRE THE HOTTEST GUY IN THE COUNTRY TO GO-- 8-4------It took a tremendous effort by a completely dysfunctional staff & a tired and confused team to AVOID GOING 8-4 last year!---Translation-- we should have won 8 games easy BOTH OF THE LAST TWO YEARS--THE FAILURE BELONGS TO WEIS & STAFF AND THEY PAID THE ULTIMATE PRICE!

Kelly will live up to the hype--and 10 returning starters on defense--and an offense LOADED WITH PLAYMAKERS WILL BE HIS TICKET TO FIRST YEAR SUCCESS!

We will make a BIG RUN AT BCS----I LOOK FOR 11-2 with a BIG BOWL WIN---A TOP TEN FINISH__THE DOOR KICKED WIDE OPEN FOR A TOP 3 RECRUITING CLASS IN 2011__IN HORSERACING PARLANCE WE WILL BE----" OFF TO THE RACES " Fellas-----THE KELLY ERA WILL OPEN WITH A BANG!

Every team we play will have their hands full--- EXPECT OVER 40 POINTS in 6 GAMES---EXPECT AT LEAST 5 TEAMS COMPLETELY BURIED WITH THE SECOND STRING PLAYING THE SECOND HALF----EXPECT NAVY AND BC TO BE UTTERLY DEMOLISHED___EXPECT ONLY 4 OR 5 TOUGH GAMES GOING INTO QUARTER 4___WITH AT BEST ONLY TWO TEAMS ABLE TO SQUEEZE BY US!!------EXPECT USC TO GO DOWN TO THE WIRE 50/50 ON THE OUTCOME!

KELLY TIME WILL BE A SHOCK :shocked:___AND THE 2010 TEAM WILL BE A BLAST!! :boom:aloha go irish!

i know man and the 2009 team is going to go 12-0 right ;)

best guess at this point is 9-3. but if i had to guess who the 3 are ide say 3 of these 4 BC Utah MSU and USC.

Good breakdown.

It's hard to disagree with any of that.

But Oklahoma said to include the Bowl game everybody!

So Ian, are you saying 9 and 4 or are you saying 10 and 3?

I'm probably leaning more towards 9 and 4 right now.

I was certainly including the bowl game when I said 10 wins. I noticed some of you are not thinking in those terms. We have a 12 game schedule and a bowl makes 13. I'm thinking we win our bowl game because our offense should be stellar at this point and I don't think we will be playing a Florida or Alabama.

8 or 9 wins is my prediction.

I am going to say 11-2 with losses to MSU and either Utah or Pitt but not both. Finally an end to the U$C streak and a bowl win. Hey, it's almost July, we can be as optimistic as we want . . . AND . . . wait for it

:llama:

YES, the llama will come out strong for the Irish and help us kick some tail

I will never gaurantee an undefeated season but I would love for it to happen every year as we all would, but I have to admit I hate predicting losses guys. I can't find it in my heart to do. I will say this though, I do not want to lose to either Michigan or Michigan State, especially State!

I am going for 10 wins this year. And I don't want one of those loses to be to michigan state....I hate them even though I went to school there. This will be scary game though playing at night...the crowd will be super drunk and very noisy. I believe we can beat michigan, bc and usc. Utah is a little scary and i am sure we will be surprised by someone.

Don't take this as me questioning or judging you but I've never seen an MSU alum hate his alma mater's team and cheer for ND. But then again Vince Vaughn went to Harvard and he loves ND

The last couple of years under Charlie, we saw a fatigued unit on defense going into the fourth quarter, lack of push from the offensive line on most critical momentum sustaining drives, concerns that I believe Kelly will fix. Obviously our passing attack was the envy of most Division 1A College programs, but we were a one trick pony without a adequate complimentary running attack to help maintain a lead. We now have a proven college coach that will emphasize fundamentals and team cohesivness. I'm down for 10-2.

no worries,,,it is not the school i hate...i had a great time up there, but i was also a non traditional student. what i can't stand are the fans, they act like a-holes win or lose.....my home, in michigan is split about 50-50 michigan and msu fans. the msu fans are much much worse. I have been to each stadium as well and was treated much fairer at michigan.
