Deonte Thompson, wide receiver out of Florida, stated that he has an offer from the Irish. According to his Bios he ran the 40 in a 4.27 or 4.28. He also stated that he is really looking at Miami, USC, Notre Dame, Florida and Georgia at this time.

Β

He told scout, "Notre Dame is also a school I'm looking at right now. I really like their tradition in excellence. I've talked with the coaches a lot and they're really excited about me coming in as a deep threat."

Β

Previously, he has not seemed as excited about the Irish. I think this is the big time playmaker the Irish need. He and Benn would be....

INCREDIBLE!

Nice NDlaw Great. I was checking on another situation and ran across this from January 2005 14 months ago from Coach Weis Presser, he says almost the same thing above. (PLAYMAKERS)

Β

Q. How much does speed play a part of recruiting for you? You talked about tough guys in the trenches. What about the skill position?

Β

COACH WEIS: I love speed. I love guys that can run. First, I want guys that can play. I think there's a lot of times, like somebody will say, "There's a receiver that run as 4.3." He might be better suited to having those track spikes on because he might not be able to play football. You might say, "He can run fast, he can run a 10.0 300 meters." But what if he can't catch the ball? I like guys that can play. I mean, show me a guy who can play, that's what I'm looking for. I like play-makers.

Β

So speed, don't get me wrong, I love speed, but speed can be overrated. If he's not a football player, what difference does it make how fast he is?

Yeah, a Thompson and Benn would be extremely special. They would complement each other incredibly well.

My bet says that he stays in Florida

If I had to bet he'll stay in the south, but he claims that he will wait till the end of the season. Another great offensive year, chance to play early in a wide receiver friendly offense, JC, a BCS/NC Year.

Β

I think that it is extremely likely that he and Benn will be two of the consensus Top 5 receivers in the country... Possibly 1,2.

Hope we get him...we need a fast gamebreaker like that

Aldridge is gonna be our gamebreaker.. wait and see!

I agree that Aldridge will be a gamebreaker, but we'll need a gamebreaker as a return man too. Thompson has great speed which would allow him to be a good returner if he has some moves and vision to go along with it. It would be great to have Benn, Thompson, and if Weis offers him, Little. Plus i've heard good things on Duval(?) Kamara. All would be great to have.

Darrin Walls was a very good returner in HS, and George West was arguably the best returner in the nation last year.....we should be fine in the return game.

You can never have too much speed... I for one would like to stretch the defense deep to get more room for the bigger recievers. Ohio state sure did it to our defense.

George West will be our return man gamebreaker.

I agree with you broker, I have high expectations for George West.

β€œI’m interested in Notre Dame,” Deonte Thompson said of his interest in playing football in South Bend. β€œThey’re recruiting me. They offered me already toward the end of February beginning of March.

Β

β€œCoach Weis just texted me. The last time I spoke to him was about two weeks ago. He’s recruiting me and coach Ianello. I'm thinking about going up there for their spring game.”

Β

It would be great to get him up for the Blue and Gold game with JC and Benn.

If we could land Benn and Thompson that would be an amazing combo. It appears that they would compliment each other very well.

I like the smaller speed receivers. I like receivers that can jump and I like them small because you can put them in motion and they disappear behind that line and just pop out! Makes them hard to cover. I also like The tall "tough guy" lanky receivers, like the shark, because they will just sacrifice over the middle. Hey that's why they have guys like me to put them back together after they get crushed going over the middle! I would also be interested in using Gallup out of a 3 back formation and put him into motion or in the slot. I also forsee the coaches utilizing Reuland on the "pop" pass when defenses put 7 in the box. Regardless of who gets recruited for next year, I believe that we are going to punish the living crap out of a lot of teams that want to load in the box. I like Gallup out of the slot in cover 2. I think we are all going to have fun next year.
