OK, so I have been following the coach search conversations like everyone here and I'm 75% sold on us having a deal in place with Brian Kelly... Here's my thoughts.

1. We went to him in the past for a conversation...

2. He is awaiting an announcement until after the BCS games are announced.

3. Every other high level coach we have been rumored to be sniffing around has either extended their contract or come out with a denial or statement of 'not interested'

4. The media has begun a campaign of 'not impressed' with Brian Kelly...That is the large sentiment coming out of Chicago, who will feed the national outlets in terms of what the reaction is on the ground...knowing that they would prefer to beat up ND rather than build them up...this seems to be a subtle point in his direction.

5. Digger came out with Randy Edsall... A low excitement candidate who should create a sense of semi-panic from the BOT and Swarbick, if we have to resort to Randy Edsall, than what does that say about our ability to make a big hire. (which Kelly would be)

6. Combine this with his Kelly being an Irish Catholic, it helps with the priests...who will be having to swallow his questionable background, which will undoubtably be flushed out in the coming weeks.

Keep your eyes out for...

Butch Davis has also thrown his name out into the ring, where I think he would be a great hire, especially if he is able to keep some of the offensive staff in place at ND (parmalee, anello, powlus, verducci, alford)...This would allow our offense to keep momentum and some sense of consistancy, while the defense gets a personality overhaul and another year's experience...and Butch is a fantastic recruiter and may have a few kids in his pipeline who could see there way coming to ND...perhaps a kid like James Hurst (5* Off. Tackle) an Indiana native who had ND in his final 5...

If we miss out on Kelly...expect us to move quickly onto Butch and retain the assistants currently on board...

Just my latest hairbrain idea...

Agree with you 110%

The only person we'd be missing is Charlie Weis, who was the offensive coordinator and called the plays.

I agree, however I think it's only about a 72% chance Brian Kelly's coming to ND. LOL

One thing's for sure, Kelly sure isn't squashing the talk like Stoops is. All Kelly will say is what a leader HAS to say. "we're concentrating on the game against PITT". Coach Kelly, is that REALLY what you're thinking about late at night when you're in bed with the lights off? (no sexual jokes from the peanut gallery).

Kelly said this morning on radio he will stay at Cinci, his family likes it there...yada yada, don't have a link read it off another board stating it others had heard it...

I saw that too. My feeling is that if Kelly is staying at Cinci then we're in a good position, because nabbed somebody ahead of him. I don't know if I can stress enough that if Notre Dame offered Brian Kelly he would come, and it wouldn't take much to give him a raise (he makes 1.37 mil a year base salary).

That being said, I still feel it's going to be Kelly.

I find that very hard to believe. If he says no, it's because we already have someone in place.

If he indeed said no ....I don't know why he would dance around the subject for the past couple weeks and then deny all the sudden unless he found out either someone else is in place or ND isn't interested. And so help me if it is because we are not interested

One can only hope JS is so on top of his game.

I feel the new head coach HAS to be a big time college guy. Alot if not some damage control needed after the past couple of years. Were a bit stagnant. We even gave an extention to a coach based of just a few games into a season.

I am really feeling it's going to shock us all. Not by who it is but by how it came about.

What do you mean by big time college guy? You mean you wouldn't take Gruden cause he isn't a college guy or you mean you need someone really bigtime and Patterson and Kelly don't meet those requirements?

No no, didn't really come across right. I meant a big time guy, one who is right under our noses.

I feel Kelly, Patterson, Muschamp, Stoops, Meyer and of course Gruden are big name guys. I felt all along that Gruden would be an above average college coach who could be another Carroll.

I am simply saying that with all these rumors being bounced around...I feel we will all be pleasantly suprised.

With the new talk swirling about Butch Davis and Brian Bilick being candidates, I am sure Jack won't settle for either of these guy's.

I honestly don't know what ND should do.

I think Meyer would be perfect but c'mon. I don't believe for a minute he would leave Florida.

I think Stoops would be perfect but he has lost 5 of his last 6 bowl games and he wouldn't leave Oklahoma either.

I Love Gruden's fire. But he isn't a college guy and that scares me.

I think Kelly is really a good coach but I worry that he doesn't have the recruiting prowess that Meyer and Stoops have.

I think Patterson is a bonafide great coach but again I don't know if he would be a good recruiter either. He hasn't exactly played elite competition.

Peterson is a great offensive coach but his defense has never been impressive. But maybe his trick plays is what ND needs at this point. But he hasn't played elite competition either.

Kyle Whittingham has won all four bowl games and never had a losing season. Again, the competition wasn't at the highest level.

Butch Davis is a fantastic recruiter but the guy hasn't won anything recently. He may be great but it just doesn't seem right.

Pat Fitzgerald has been able to win with inferior talent but the best finish he had was 4th in the big ten.

Al Golden seems like a good coach but do we give a guy the ND job for one winning season in four years.

Ferentz ... another Beilichik desciple... no way!!!

Charlie Strong is a great coach and recruiter but I think we need a coach with head coaching experience.

Tuberville has had some success in the toughest conference in the country but he hasn't been lights out and was run out of Auburn. Is that someone we want?

Hope you're right about Bilick and Davis. I also agree with you about Gruden.
