Tulsa World: Stoops to issue press release

Stoops is frustrated and concerned that ESPN’s continued reporting of unfounded rumors about his interest in Notre Dame will hinder his recruiting efforts. He planned to release a statement through OU sports information director Kenny Mossman later Tuesday morning to once again shoot down the latest ESPN story.

Source: newspaper Tulsa World's Dave Sittler. "He's been named Oklahoma Sportswriter of the Year nine times, including just recently for 2008. In 2001, he served as president of the Football Writers Association of America."

please, just name kelly already............... we have our own recruiting issues to deal with......

Here we go, I am preparing to be underwhelmed again. I think wewill be lucky at this point to get a Kelly. We really don't know for sure he will come.

Part of me wishes he would just come out and say...

"I'm flattered to be offered the ND job, but I have absolutely no interest."

At least make it affirmative one way or the other instead of all the circles.

He has scheduled a presser to do just this...later today according to ESPN.

this more of not much IMO.

until ND hires someone i see Stoops continuing being an option.

i wouldnt be concerned with any statements he makes, what else would he say? if ND and Stoops are talking and for whatever reason things fall through and he remains with Oklahoma he is going to want it seem like he was never interested in leaving so that the program at Oklahoma doesnt suffer in anyway.

im not surprised at all right now to see him being 100% Oklahoma, but things could change. money can do wonderful things

By most normal standards, he's already done that. Multiple times. Stoops to ND was never more than unsubstantiated innernets rumor, despite what ESPN and ND fans wished.

just curious from ND fans. we have seen so many rumours regarding Stoops that we have almost allready put him at ND. if something happens and he does not end up at ND, what are peoples opinion of Stoops going to be?

back before Weis was hired, everyone thought/expected Meyer to be at ND. when that didnt happen many were upset with Meyer and have been upset with him since them. would people feel the same way towards Stoops?

Kind of like Saban did, huh? ;)

Bring on Brian Kelly...he want's it as much as we all want an established winner.

Nope, I won't be mad at him I don't have absolute proof any of the contact or interest ever happened.

Haha, :llama:

SooneratND, do you really think this was all just a figment of our imagination? Stoops was very clear about Florida at the time, saying something to the effect of "I enjoyed my time there, but have no interest to coach there" It was much more definitive than what he has said so far.

Plus the info on YOUR premium boards says Swarbick offered a deal to Stoops agent.

It might not happen, but to say it was never more than a rumor is a bit out there.

Kind of like Saban did, huh? ;)

Except, as I've said multiple times, Stoops is a straight shooter. Even when Florida was after him, he was absolutely honest that he was meeting with them and listening to what they had to say. That's why, when he said he was going to be at OU next year, I took him at his word.
