Finally joining in the fray after lurking for months and months.

Mike "Fatso" Francesa on WFAN Radio in NYC today said Meyers has has "made eyes" at ND, then rehashed how this is his dream job and he's named after a pope, yadda, yadda, yadda -concluding that it is not far fetched to think that he will leave Florida for ND.

Now Francesa is well connected so he's just notblowing smoke. Beginning to think that Pope Urban is the No. 1 target and he can take it this time or refuse and never again be called upon.

Welcome to DD Jersey Irish!!

BTW, does that radio station have an archive where we might find the show?

Thanks!

He's also syndicated on the YES Network owned by the Yankees. I'll check it out

I'm on the left coast at the moment but must have gotten 15 messages regarding his comments. Chiro reported it here first. I wonder what mad dog's take on it is? Welcome JI.

I hope it works out like I planned last fall.

I don't think he has a opinion on ND football, plus he isn't on the show anymore. Mike is a fan of ND football and is friends with CW I believe. Just not sure how close of friends they are. I heard him talking about ND today but the whole work thing made me miss it.

Mad Dog is an idiot - He played "Costello" to Francesa's "Abbot". He knows nothing about sports and glad he's gone to the never, never land of SIRIUS radio.

Don Imus dubbed the duo "Fatso and Fruitloops" -- guess who "Fruitloops" is?

Seriously, Francesa is a blowhard but knows his stuff and worked for CBS long enough where he has connections -- and what network does the Florida games because of its SEC contract? --CBS.

Just sayin'

Yes I know he's not on the show nor do I really care what Mad Dog thinks. Just posted that to razz someone.

Yes Mad Dog is an idiot. How anyone can listen to that voice all day is beyond me. He happens to also be a lousy kisser.

Anewera, you know he's been more than contacted... ;) It's funny the Crusades started on my birthday with a speech from Pope Urban. Do you think ND will name Urban it's new coach on November 27 this year?

Why do you think it depends on the SEC championship? Our best chances of pulling him out of UF lie with his ability to feel like he accomplished everything he wanted while there.

He finishes undefeated, he pulls in another title, then he calls up the smorgasbord of 5 stars and asks them if they're interested in making history.

Because he would be very hesitant to leave early if Florida is in the national championship game. If he looses in the SEC championship,a BCS bowl is a lot less inportant than a title and I think he would leave early.I will say he is the only one that Swarbrick would wait until the end of bowl season to get.

So those of us who want Urban should buy some crimson for the sec title game then?

Roll Tide!

There is no doubt that Urban is going to be #1 on the list.....but as we saw 5 years ago, being #1 on your list does not = being the next coach at ND.

My problem with Urban is that it is going to be too expensive to buy out Charlie AND pay Urban the kind of money he will likely want (assuming Urban has any desire to leave FL right now....which I seriously question).

I'm with you schell. I will be shocked if he comes to ND. With that being said, it does seem more like the snake....I mean man that he is. He wanted someone else to come in and right the ship with recruiting and when it is set up for him to win, he'll take the job.

Hopefully money isnt a factor (i know easy for me to say im not writing the check) but JS said economics wasnt going to be an issue. My guess is they throw the kitchen sink at urban and if he says thanks but no thanks again then they see what Mr Stoops would bring to the table.

Money is not a factor for getting rid of Weis. However, if the buyout is 18 mil and Urban wants to be the highest paid coach the price to replace Charlie would be approaching 45+ million dollars.

i just can't see this guy leaving THAT kingdom........................

If he's going to leave, he's going to do it now......Prince Tebow is leaving along with a RB and some WR's and Spikes on def...its just where he wants to start over at.....

Yeah and 4 BCS bowls later that money is made up...

if any school need not worry about money, it's Notre Dame...

Swarbrick has already made it clear that money won't be an issue in respect of Weis' buyout. And if the university is already prepared to pay at, or close to, top-dollar for a HC - which it has been doing with Weis - then I don't see why it wouldn't be prepared to continue to do so for his successor, especially if that person was a recognised top tier coach (e.g. Meyer or Stoops).

I just pray that internally the decision to fire/release/allow to 'resign' Weis has already been taken and that the unobtrusive search for his successor is well under way. Personally I'd take Meyer or Stoops in a heartbeat, perhaps with Meyer as favourite, but I fear the biggest problem with him might be timing, rather than money, ambition or the South Bend weather, especially if UF win the SEC Championship game. If they do, would Meyer agree to leave (even secretly) before the BCS Championship game? And if he wanted ND to wait until early January for an answer, would it be sensible to do so, knowing that the other top candidates might no longer be (as) available come then? I'm not sure.
