ok now this time i may need some reassurance-- i'm not on he ledge-- or even near the ledge-- unfortunately though i had a dark moment this morning and for an instant-- I SAW THE LEDGE!--LOL---so here is my concern--- we have this great list of coaches being bandied about-- almost a who's who of top coaches and hot coaches---------hardly a name on that list that coundnt get most of us excited!

But what happen last time??-- i think thats what's done it--- all this URBAN MEYER TALK HAS ME CONCERNED THIS IS GONNA BE DEJA VU ALL OVER AGAIN------ they wouldnt have fired Ty after 3 years IMO if it wasnt that they were UBER confident they would get Meyer--- well we all know what happened--------- THATS HOW WE ENDED UP WITH CHARLIE---- AFTER THE URBAN FIASCO__ WE ROLLED THROUGH EVERY TOP COACH AND GOT NOTHING BUT DEAR JOHN LETTERS-----SO WE END UP WITH EITHER TOMMY CLEMENTS OR CHARLIE WEIS--- TWO GUYS WHO WERE VERY OBSCURE!!

Somebody plz tell me its impossible for that to happen again--

Meyer-- how could anyone in their right mind count on that-- hope maybe but thats it

Stoops-- just so possible we could end up as nothing but leverage from a guy in a pretty solid spot at oklahoma

Gruden-- well the espn contract although not defnitive is not looking all that bright for him

Kelly-- i mean he seems like maybe the most likely to actually take the job--- but who really knows--- maybe he has other plans-- maybe negotiations will be our usual stellar mess that screws up a deal------ maybe something in a background issue---

so if kelly isnt the guy for some reason

stoops is just funnin with us

meyer is just our own stubborness in play

gruden waits for the NFL

i mean are we gonna fall off a cliff-- beg for the TCU guy-- cause the boise state guy seems an unlikely move

we have been so burnt by this process in the past

we have all not only been disappointed by our teams play but our

coach selection has been demoralizing--- o'leary in o'leary out-- the ND plane Flys into Utah with all the hoopla--- the deal is done-- and then Urban takes his own flight to Florida!

God save us all from this optimism over a power coach turning to dross while we flounder around!-- i fantasize about a big name coach brought out on NOVEMBER 30--Smooth and Great giving us all hope for a turnaround even as soon as next year----and i DRED going down to the 7th or 8th guy on the list and having to hear rationalizations about how it will all work out in a couple of few years--OUCH!

So speak up and tell me we have NO WORRIES--- aloha go irish!

Exactly much more attrative job now than it was 5 years ago better facilities as well

We will be left with our d**ks in our hands. It will be like in the past, have a list of possible replacements, run through them one at a time with "thanks, but no thanks". With this revolving door that ND has created, it's unlikely that a top name will come.

Does that mean, should CW be fired, we won't get a good coach? No, it's possible that we get another CW, untested and unproven and he comes and does a bang up job.

I am still on the CW bandwagon and will be until the ax falls.

these truly are dark days when hawaii isn't optimistic!

I'm pretty confident and for some reason optimistic (weird for me as a ND/Cubs fan) that we will get a homerun guy. At the least, I'm glad we won't be having any more "is Weis going to be the coach next year?" speculation like we did last year. Now its "Who are we going to hire to coach next year speculation?" which I guess is a bit better and more exciting.

This Job is much more attractive than it was 5 years ago....we will get someone we have heard of its just a matter of who at this point.

Swarbick is an anal lawyer with consulting firms on speed dial.

The right guy (on paper) is going to be hired.

No worries, we won't strike out. There's way to much at stake , failure is not an option we're at the precipice of being irrelevant should the new head coach not be a major upgrade. We won't be begging Jimmie Johnson to come out of retirement to give us a look. You only get so many chances to get it right, some how I think Jack Swarbrick grabs a nugget.

I think this year there are more coaches we could conceivably go after whether they are established or up and comers. How many we make actual offers to and in what order remains to be seen.

Meyer-Don't think he's coming, really shouldn't be in the discussion IMO.

Stoops-Possible maybe, could he be playing for a better contract with OU, don't know he just renewed one recently and has bad record this year not exactly a strength for negotiating terms.

Gruden-MNF gig, don't know and really don't think he's coming either.

Kelly-up and comer, has expressed interest, would be looking for new challenge at major program, hopefully he's around if UM decides to can RR because I'm sure they'll be offering him too. Depending on who's getting fired or leaving major programs he may not be around long.

Peterson-another up and comer, would maybe want to move onto a major program but does he want to stay West, or does he stay and keep running the table and getting at large BCS bids?

Patterson-Very solid program at TCU, but is he wanting to move up?

Ferentz-IMO no way is he leaving Iowa unless its to the NFL and after all his kids are out of school. Family really loves the IC area and he's been a hot coach for quite a few years and still no movement from him.

dickhead(Harbaugh)-won't get a look, too many strikes against him that would turn up in checks

Whittingham-could be looking for step up.

Hawaii, I see where you are coming from, but fear not.....a lot of things have changed in the last 5 years and a lot of new (and old) names are being thrown about. If nothing else, CW made the job of being the ND football coach a lot easier than it was a few years ago. Meyer is the only one that I think is a pipe dream.....

Meyer will likely get the first phone call, but when Meyer gets off the picks up the phone and is done laughing Swarbrick will hang up and call Kelly....

Revolving door? Are you serious? ND is one of the only schools that always gives its coaches 5 years. Except in the case of Ty every other coach has. The successor has to know that barely over 500 is unacceptable.

Charlie Strong !!!

Coach! Who is this "STRONG MAN" you speak of?

i like strong too, coach. my only concern is hiring another coordinator...........

what in our past 13 years makes any of you think that ND is a step up from any place? step up in expectations, step up in fan critics, step up in negative media coverage, but step up in football???? why not stay where you are and play in a weak league with lower expectations, not under the mircrosope and play in BCS bowls.

You better believe ND can strike out, but I really don't see it happening. I guess it all depends what your definition of striking out is? I would love either UM or Stoops but for the life of me I can't see why they would want to come to ND. Sure money is a driving factor but I honestly have a hard time believing either of these guys can't get what they want dollar wise. Sure ND can trump Cincy bigtime but I'm one of the few that is not completely sold on Kelly, although I would completely support him.

Guess time will tell.
