Dont know if anybody posted this yet or has read it but it looks like Stoops and Ferentz may be interested in the HC job should Charlie leave. Cant say Id be shocked if it turns out to be true. ND is pretty much loaded with talent. Id say if a coaching search happens it will be much different than last time. The right guy could step into a dream situation. Big money and big talent.

stoops would be my choice if available

PLEEEEEAAAAAAAASE no ferentz. This guy went into the shoe with his backup QB, was tied with a minute left and 2 timeouts and got the ball at his own 30 for a chance to win the Big 10 title and go to the rose bowl. He basically took a knee in order to take his chances in OT.

At the Shoe.

Against Ohio State.

Did I mention he had 2 timeouts left.

He only needed 3 points.

For the big 10 title.

For the Rose bowl.

Wow he makes Tressel look like a compulsive gambler.

Stoops--I'm sorry I'm not doing cartwheels. Something tells me that wouldn't put the fear of God into Pete Carroll the way Kelly or Harbaugh maybe would. Somebody sell me.

Stoops took an Oklahoma program that was in shambles, won the NC his second year, has been to 7 BCS bowls in 10 years, finished in the top 10 7 out of 10 years and has a 114-28 career record.

Now, he gets most of that with players in his backyard, but I would think he would help open up that avenue maybe in an area that is locked up by Ok and Texas.

If he would take the job, which rumors say he would, he would be my first choice.

I agree on Ferentz.

However, I'd be doing cartwheels in the streets of Cleveland if Stoops was announced as the head coach.

Guy's gotten his team to the national championship game 4 times! Sure, they've only won one, but still, if a coach can get his team to the NC game 4 times, that's a pretty damned good start. He's 114-28 in 11 seasons at Oklahoma. 8 seasons of 10 wins or more. Only 3 "subpar seasons" of 7-5 (first year at OK), 8-4, and this year's current 6-4.

He routinely brings in some of the best players around the country, and brings some of the best players out of the state of Texas each year. He started out as a grad assistant under Hayden Frye at Iowa. He was a vital defensive assistant for several years at Kansas State under Bill Snyder that helped turn that program around from one of the worst teams in the NCAA to a pretty darned good team. He was Defensive Coordinator at Florida during a National Championship season. He's 6-5 in his rivalry against Texas. He's not even 50 yet.

He's got the college game down. Hell, even when he had an incident with boosters at the school, he cut off the boosters, and kicked his star center and QB off the team. He cut ties with his star players when he found out that a booster had worked around him to pay them extra money for a summer job.

He's one of the best of the best consistently as a head coach in college. He's proven it at every level as an assistant coach (from positional to coordinator to now head coach), and he's done it at the biggest of the biggest of schools in the biggest games year in and year out. Coming into this year, he was neck and neck with Mack Brown for most wins by any D-1 school since 1999.

I think Urban and Stoops have to be option numbers 1A and 1B. If they decline, then you still have 4 EXCELLENT options (that would normally be option 1 type coaches in any other year) in Gruden, Kelly, Patterson, and to a slightly lesser extent, Peterson.

If this is true and he is interested it would be very difficult to pass him up.

My top 3 right now

1. Stoops

2. Kelly

3. Patterson

I put stoops ahead of kelly but honestly i think thats a tough call, he has an edge in my opinion but not a big edge. But wow with Stoops resume how do you say no if he would come calling?

Stoops, Gruden, Kelly are probably my priority list, unless Urban shows interest. Then, you could push Kelly out.

Whether the story is true or not it creates a lot of buzz about the program. Its recruiting gold and may even prompt guys like Kelley to step up their interest in the ND job. I wouldnt doubt it a bit if several very good college coaches are interested in the job this time around. The conditions are vastly different. Charlie has proven that recruiting top players at ND is very possible as long as you put in some effort. So for that alone Im happy Charlie was the coach. Swarbrick just needs to get it done sooner rather than later if he indeed intends on making a change.

The problem with guys on other teams is that we won't know anything until the season is over, unfortunately. Two more weeks...... AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Would we have to wait until after the bowls too? Or are decisions usually made before the bowls?

They're made immediately after the season. Bowls don't count for anything more than bringing in money. Win or lose, it doesn't matter unless you're in the championship game when it comes to merit. Hopefully, we handle this in a way that maximizes recruiting AND brings in a good coach, too.

They have known to be made prior to bowl games. We will need to reafirm our potential recruits.

Yeah what Wave just said...

This thread like some others have summed up Notre Dame. Why would any established head coach that is winning want to consider coming to Notre Dame?

Because we are Notre Dame. We are a storied program. We still have the name.

Welcome to DD corysold. Glad you came and joined us.

Stoops would be a good hire assuming he never ever coaches us in a BCS game. he's lost his last what 4 BCS games? I'll let him coach us for the regular season but let someone else coach the bowl gme

If Stoops wants to come to ND you hand him the keys to the kingdom and get out of his way.
