What if Notre Dame beats an 8-1 Pitt (rank 8 & 9) and Uconn and a 6-3 Stanford (25)? Will the Pitt win be a big enough signature win to warrant CW coming back?

What if the Irish win out and take on a big name in the Gator Bowl and win? 10-3 not good enough for a return?

I know a lot of you are already recommending realtors to CW, but there is still time to pull this season out.

I am as disappointed as everyone else on the board, maybe in some cases, more so.

I don't think the writing is on the wall just yet. Perhaps with another loss or two. But not yet. Rumors are rumors. Let the season play out and see where we end up.

Should OUR Irish end the season with a 10-3 record are we setting a precedent in letting the coach go with that kind of a record?

It's a nice "what if", but I haven't seen any indication that the Irish are capable of taking down a top 10 team since 2005.....both Pitt and Stanford would have to collapse on themselves and practically hand over the game....

I think ND beats Pitt. (They better because I'll be there.) I think they beat Uconn and then lose to Stanford. Personally, I could give a rats @#@ about what they do to close out this season....Weis needs to go. He has proven over 5 years that he is not a good college head head. The last 3 games of this season will not alter that!

yeah, but, other posts are in middle of other threads. this one is devoted to this particular what if.................. and I think this is a little more specific.

If they win out and also pull out a win in the bowl game it'll be nearly impossible to fire Charlie.

I don't think we'll have to worry about that though . . .

I'm going to the Pitt game this weekend and since I was at the North Carolina and Syracuse games last year, I think my presence might ensure their defeat.

i would drop a load in my pants if ND wins out.

we'll want pictures of that blessed event...............

Evidence? I thought the above pic WAS your evidence???

i agree with echo on this. ND hasn't done much this season to support going to pitt and the farm and pull off the upsets. ND certanly has the talent and ability to do it but they can't seem to put the two together. the talent is their but the productivity isn't. ND finishes the season 7-5.

We will never get a consensus on this one... If ND beats a top 10 Pitt team at Pitt during Primetime, people will say that we should have beaten them, that we got lucky and that it was a result of the players being so awesome...We would then play a Uconn team who we should beat, no question about that, but again would have the haters saying we didn't beat them by a big enough margin...and then to close the season with a win against a top 25 Stanford team and their dickwad head coach, will only serve as a reminder as to the potential of this team... That will then lead us to a 4 week rambling on the coaches available, rumors about the University Plane being in florida, cincinnati, oklahoma, new jersey, oregon and california... We would then walk into the Gator/ Cotton or whatever.com bowl and face another top 20 team where we would be competing to finish the season at 10-3 and likely a top 15 ranking... A sure fire measure of progress and finishing ahead of our pre-season rankings, but yet still not good enough and the fire Charlie story will get circulated through the national media as they will be forced to look at NBA and NCAA hoops as their only other stories to fill time...meaning the honks on this board will have another rumor to report or a story to latch onto...

The reality is this. If we finish 10-3; Weis is back...like it or not.

The second part of that is that if Swarbick takes the NCAA Presidents job, Jenkins and the other BOT will not make a coaching move without the stamp of approval and contract negotiations of the athletic director...because if they do that, they won't get the best candidate for the job, as anyone who is in position for that job, they would want to have a say in the face of the athletic program...

I love the attitude you bring. I agree, we still need to finish the season strong with four games left, we have a ton to play for. But 2 losses to Navy after 43 straight wins says it all. I like Weis, but not as a HC. I wish he would of succeeded.

I hope that nobody would debate beating a top 10 Pitt at home under the lights would be a huge win. Also, if we finish 10-3 I think Weis would be back, no one would fire a 10-3 coach (save Nebraska). Good point on Swarbrick as well.

I'm having a tough time being optimistic that this will happen though. It feels like the wheels on the bus are falling off.

I agree. I feel the same way also. It is tough envisioning that happening, but week by week we go, here we come Pitt. Go Irish!!!
