Ive been getting ripped on for not want Brian Kelly as our next head coach. Here is why:

Lack of Big Name: Nobody try to say he is a big name, come on. Unless you are an avid football fan, you do not know Brian Kelly. The first football name that comes to my mind when saying Brian Kelly is a former CB for the Tampa Bay Bucaneers. Kelly does not create any buzz around the Notre Dame program.

Inexperience: A DD member discussed about his two Division II Championships. Yes, good accomplishments but examine Jim Tressel coached a DI AA school and won four championships and got the Ohio State job which is not a Notre Dame job. He has only been coaching Division I football for six years. 19-16 at Western Michigan. Do I need to go on? He has done good things at Cincinatti, where he can succeed, but thats it. He beat W.V. and Pitt. Those are the only big games he has won. His team got trounced by Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl. Additionally, Cincy has not beat anyone this year.

Conclusion: Brian Kelly is a solid football coach. He is an excellent coach for a program like Cincinatti. It is a perferct fit. He does not fit the mold for a ND head coach. If people say he has charisma..... Tell me the last time you've seen him on an ESPN, Fox Network, or Radio Show??? I'm in the midwest and have never seen him there. This is the NOTRE DAME job, not Cincinatti. With names like Meyers and Stoops, Brian Kelly should be on the back burner of our lists.

It was Central Michigan, not Western, and that was a program that had won 11 games in the previous four years. It was horrible. They were getting blown the hell out by other MAC teams, it was embarrassing.

Kelly came in and had them respectable in Year 1, the first winning record since 1994 in Year 2 and won a MAC Championship in Year 3. Now he's at Cinci where he's had two 10 win seasons in two years (on his way to No. 3), at a school that had one 10 win season in its history before he got there.

As for name recognition, I think he's starting to have it. He's the hottest name in coaching, an really, f*** name recognition. He's an extraordinary coach, and will win a national title somewhere before he's done, probably more than one. I'd like it to be here.

Brian Kelly is exactly what this program needs.

I can't add

Hahahaha Central Michigan. Hahahaha you kidding me. Oh he is way hotter than Urban Meyer who has two titles and will probably win his third..... How many BCS bowl wins does Kelly have??????????? How man???

As a CMU alum, we never like to be confused for Western, sorry.

Every time a coaching job comes up, his name comes up, that's why he's the hottest coach in the country. That's how I came to that conclusion (meaning hottest coaching prospect, if you will). Hell, if you want strictly name recognition, more people know Charlie Weis than know Brian Kelly.

As for BCS wins, he's had one chance to play in a BCS game and lost. He'll likely get another shot this year.

I'm not saying I wouldn't take Urban Meyer or Nick Saban or someone like that who is incredibly established. That would be nice. But Kelly would be real nice, too.

I guarantee if he comes to ND and starts out 3-0 everyone will know who he is.

Stoops? Please no.

I was expecting the title to be followed by "unite" or "mount up!"

Stoops is a good coach. Why wouldn't you want him. He's an a$$, but he's a good coach, more proven than Kelly. Here's a new one I'll throw out there... Lloyd Carr. Hahaha.

Lloyd Carr? hahahaha, that's the best wave

Urban Meyer wasn't a big name before he was Urban Meyer.

Stoops was a defensive coordinator at Florida.

Nick Saban had a few mediocre years before LSU.

And on and on it goes.

To have a guy become a big name, he's got to start somewhere. Kelly has won at Cincinnati, and in order for him to become a big name, he deserves a shot, and I think he'd do a good job.

If the ND administration doesn't, someone is going to give him a chance, and I think he'll do well wherever he goes.

Don't see why everyone is bring up Stoops in the conversation. Has he even mentioned that he was interested in coming to ND?

Not only should Kelly get a good job opportunity, he deserves one. I've said in other threads, ND has a history of not always grabing the biggest current name, but rather the up and coming coach. It's worked historically, and is working well for Florida right now. Idk why people are afraid to hire a winner.

Not sure what being on ESPN proves anything about charisma, but here you go:

So basically you're against Brian Kelly because you have never heard of him before and want a more big-name coach. Nothing wrong with that. I would love to see ND get Urban Meyer too, but I have my doubts he would leave Gainesville. It would turn the college football world upside-down if it happened.

The hot item…bell bottoms were hot items at one time. Greg Shiano was the hottest coach two years ago and really has become recognized for what he is – a classless average college coach. Every year the potentials rise and fall.

Maybe Kelly is great at ND but it is a bit of a crap shoot.

If CW gets fired i don't think Urban will come to ND. I don't see anything wrong with Kelly. He has won everywhere he has coached at. I just want to see the Irish win.
