Matt Barkley who looked like a lock for the Heisman when he played ND just had another stellar performance. He was 7 for 22 for about 122 yards against Arizona State. Thats all you have to know about how good our D is. Nuff said.

not gonna lie, I miss the TY's first years Defense. That was a good D!! who had ND off to an 8-0 start despite a not so explosive offense. If ND had a stout D they would be undefeated.

u dont have to be an A-hole, all i was saying is I'd rather have a crazy good D then a crazy good Offense,

this is one of those games where the defense held decent (considering) and the offense just wasn't delivering the counter.

 

seasonally speaking, defense wins big games and the offense is the highlight boys. not the case in the irish for the last several years.

Considering the Offense that ND played against I thought the D played great. That option offense run to perfection the way Navy runs it is very hard to stop. To only give up 21 to that style of offense is a good day. I might be wrong but I don't think ND punted, six red zone attempts and only two scores(2 missed FG, a fumble and a pick by Clausen). I know the fg weren't in the red zone. Boys our defense was not the problem yesterday. At all I know we gave up 350 on the ground but our offense has to take hold of the scoring chances. There is no reason why we can't pound the ball in from ten yard line in on anybody in the country. All we do is up the middle and the fade everytime we get down there, its like playing my little nephew in playstation. On first down Navy always ran that FB up the gut quit bringing every linebacker in the stadium and defend that play.

 

There is a lot of questions I think right now in the coaching staff as a whole. If you want to bring 3-4 LB on a blitz you better hope you have DB that can play lock down man and are quick enough to read and come up and play the run. It seems everytime we get burnt for a long pass the DB and Safeties are looking at the sidelines trying to figure out who screwed up. Bring back Davie to run the D then things will get done.

Yeah, I think the reality is that Charlie will get fired because of the defense. Yes the O misfired at critical points yesterday and we've all of a sudden had some serious red zone problems the last 3 games or so...but it's the D that killed him in the end. Through three DC's he couldn't get the problems fixed. I'm not happy about it but that means you have to make a change with the HC.

The D's flat out got it's work cut out the next three weeks, no question. I've got very little confidence ND wins the rest of the games. VERY little.

I don't care if Navy would've put 500 yards of rushing offense on the board, they didn't cost us the game. They only gave up 21 points. The offense only scored 2 out of 6 red zone chances that my friend is why we got beat by Navy not because our Defense gave a up a few to many yards for a few of your likings.

Had our defense caused more 3 and outs then we could have been 3 out 7 in red zone chances. What if... Yeah, but... What if... Yeah, but... What if... Yeah, but...

 

We lost, it sucks, it doesn't really matter why at this point. It can be said though, that we need to get a bit more efficient on offense, and we need to get a heck of a lot better on defense.
