Here's an interesting article based upon an interview with a couple of the members of our defense:

Query? Do we really want our players telling THE PRESS what "edge" they might have against Navy? Maybe I'm just being hypercritical, but this is a situation where nothing said is better. Why tip off your opponent to a weakness or tendency you found from watching their film . . .?? Maybe it doesn't matter? Thoughts?

Soudns like someone should have kept their big trap shut...

if we are worried about tipping off guys that weigh between 250-280, we are in trouble. How about just pounding the line like we should and not worrying about any crap.

if you've ever watched a Navy football game, those guys play well above and beyond their physical dimensions.

Is it possible this is a way to let the refs know so they can call it?

navy blocks low... that's just what they do...

every DL will be spralling like a shoot defense in wrestling.... all you can do is get your arms on their shoulder and push them to the ground and step around...

if they are tripping from the ground the officials darn well better call that.

Anyone remember the NBC broadcast last year on this? I swear one of the announcers said "Triple option" no less then 100 times. Hammond and Haden kill me.

:brick:

Okay, so now Navy's knows that we know a pre-snap tendency. So, I'm quite certainly they will use that against us.

Have these guys never played poker. You never let your opponent know that you've discovered his tell....man alive!

Exactly my thinking, too, SDIrish . . . not a smart move . . .

I really don't think it matters in the least. Navy is Navy is Navy. They play hard and stick to their gameplan. They run the triple-option better than anyone and do the same things they have always done on defense.

We should know this better than anyone. If we stay focused and play hard this game is not even close.

If you are talking about the same navy team we beat 30+ in a row, then yes, I have watched a navy/nd game.

You CANNOT lose to navy as an Irish football team. No excuses.

Apparently we can. And we did.

You are correct that it should never be considered acceptable... but they are a team that can beat you if you let them... they always play hard yadda yadda yadda...

Here is a tip for the defense... stay true to your gap, don't over pursue and wrap up the ball carrier.

I'm wondering if Navy might run the triple option.

1 fluke overtime loss --since WWII or some such---and we fielded a completely ineffectual team , laden with freshman , run by a Qb that should have been resting his arm --- its water under the bridge------------------the NAVY WILL BE SUNK on saturday--- too much athleticism and speed to the edge from the front 7 on this team, for navy---- and wayyyyy tooo much offensive firepower for the middies to keep up-------

Prediction: navy will come out with lots of pass plays in the first quarter in an attempt to loosen us up before we score too much----- it wont work--- the irish by MORE THEN 20 IN THIS GAME! aloha go irish!!

I'm wondering if Navy might run the triple option.

I hear they're going to a 5 receiver set for this game to exploit our secondary.
