Man I hope he stays, but that's just me being selfish. If I were in his shoes, I'd probably go pro assuming teams were telling me I'd be a sure fire top 10 pick.

Β

Let me ask you this, with the large ND alumni group, many of them being wealthy, can there be a "silent agreement" that says, " We need you next year Jimmy, Dayne's not ready yet. If you come back we can contend for a NC Jimmy. I know its a huge risk for you Jimmy and if for some reason get hurt or your draft status falls, we'll make sure you're taken care of for the rest of your life."

Β

Kind of an additional insurance policy. I have no doubt it is illegal or against NCAA regs, but come on, we know how this whole deal works.

He is staying because:

-He needs another year to learn and scratch some flaws off his game

-He should have a loaded offense again next year with the WRs healthy

-He may be a frontrunner for the Heisman

-He really wants to beat USC and maybe aim at the National Championship

-His family has money so money isnt a huge issue

-He may not be the top QB taken this draft

-He may need another year to get his degree

Β

Β

He is going because:

-It would be a stupid move financially not to leave

-The possible rookie cap a year after next

-He is moving up draft board and could be the top QB taken. (at worst top 3)

-Alot of teams in the NFL need qbs right now

-He has seen what has happened to Bradford and now Dayne

-He is losing some offensive linemen

-His goal has always been the NFL and thats why he wanted Weis

-His degree is sociology... Basically his plan was the NFL from the beginning.

-He may be able to graduate this spring

Β

Why are we talking about this now?:

-There are still 5 games left lets just see what happens

-He isnt going to decide until next year so why argue about this now

-We have Crist worse come to worse and he should be back in 6 months.

Β

I think that pretty much sums up everything and every argument about Clausen and the NFL.

Kiper just said that if he had a gun to his head he would say that Jimmy will not be back next year. He said he will not be on the board after the 15th pick. Sounds like we need to make alternative plans for next season. Let's face it; it is what the family wants and it is what Jimmy wants.

Jimmy's gone.

yes he is............and i don't blame him one bit.

Stays:

I am with the "How many millions" does one need? I do not feel Todd of Blue and Gold's article is the end all be all. His mentioning Matt of the condoms greed and Jimmy in the same breath told me Todd sure ain't ND.

Β

The fact is Jimmy can play his first game with the big NFL boys and get hurt much worse then ole turf toe.

There is hope....If I remember correctly, Jimmy said he would like to add the pump fake to his game next year. Maybe that's a sign of him knowing that he can still improve his game while enjoying the end of his college career at Notre Dame........I know this is stretching it but boy I hope he comes back next year!

While I believe Dayne can be a great QB for ND, we're having this discussion because we see everything pointing up for next season (at least those of us still holding out hope the defense will turn around with more experience), except the QB spot.

Β

Have the best QB in all of CFB, or a talented but untested guy with very minimal experience coming off ACL surgery?

Β

I'm with the others, thanks for everything Jimmy.

if it werent for the creation of the salary cap i would agree that there MAY be a possibility. that being said, he's gone.............

I believe I read that he graduates in the spring; he'll have put in three years for the program, and his future beckons. As much as we'd like him to return, hopefully no one blames him when he leaves.

i have heard all this talk about a rookie salary cap, but can someone provide a source that solidifies that statement that their will indeed be a salary cap.

I wouldn't blame him if he leaves. I dont think Weis would act like Pete Carroll after Sanchez left. That was awful. Carroll is such a tool.

I have absolutely no idea what is going to happen with Jimmy after this season. Since the season isn't over yet a lot of things could happen between now and then, including injury, a poor showing in the final games, a great showing in the final games, peer pressure, etc etc. In the end Jimmy can only do what he feels best for him. I do think that as far as decision making goes he will have a wealth of knowledge to draw upon in Charlie and his substantial connections in the NFL. I think Jimmy will get more information and knowledge from Charlie's experience and what coaches, scouts, others think of him and his chances than just about anyone else out there.

Β

I would be happy if he stayed no doubt. If he leaves then so be it, I won't fault him. It's going to be awhile before we know anything.

Would you stay if most of your line was leaving?....( for those of you that say there is plenty of young talent waiting..........if they were any better, they'd be playing now! Sitting a year on the bench doesn't make them better).

Enjoy greatness while you're watching number 7, because as I said early this year and few believed-hes gone.

Β

In addition to the many reasons mentioned, I would also cite the fact that as a mid first rounder this year he has a good chance to be drafted by a decent team (Minnesota looking to prepare for life after Favre?)

Β

Next year as a top QB pick he's probably looking at the perennial QB graveyards like Oakland, Cleveland, KC. This by itself is not reason to come out early but certainly adds icing to the cake.

Β

He's proven what he can do and really what more does he have to gain or prove from a skill standpoint? The guy is basically a 3 year starter.

Β

This has been the plan from the day Jimmy stepped out of the hummer. So he's short a couple of rings? He'll pick them up at the next level.
