i know clausen has been fantastic this year, and all the nfl ananylists think hell be taking high, but does anyone else feel like he doesnt seem ready for the NFL. Honestly i feel like he needs one more good year of statistics to really be ready for the NFL. just my opinion

I agree, I think he will stay. With what we have coming back he could win the heisman easy and we could contend for a national championship.

Β

The only thing we have going against us is the cap that will be in play for signing bonuses next year.

Β

But Jimmy could be the number one pick in 2011 draft

has it been announced that their deffinately will be a salary cap? ive heard speculation all over but has the NFL actually come out and said the rookie salary cap is a done deal two draafts from now?

  • Author

Most are saying it will be in place but its not final. We have to hope it does get implemented

  • Author

correction..... does not get implemented

It's not about the cap, but moreso about the fact that most think with the new Collective Bargaining Agreement, the rookie slot system will come into play. This would be the last year of an un-slotted year.

Β

Right now, the #4 pick in the draft can make more than the #3 pick, and there's no limit to what the #1 pick, or any picks for that matter, could be paid. It's come under fire because guys are coming in on their rookie contracts and making more than veteran, proven players, before the rookie players ever have taken a snap in the league.

Β

With the new CBA, most think the draft will switch to the system the NBA has -- which is there is a standard contract given to every pick, depending on where the player was taken, that will be adjusted for inflation year after year. This will limit the amount a team has to invest in a player, and many expect will result in a boatload of juniors jumping ship to the NFL this year to get a chance at the last "no slot" year.

Β

In regards to Jimmy, I think he goes. All he has to do is look at Sam Bradford and see why he should make his millions now, regardless of if he's ready or not.

Β

I really hope he stays, but can't blame him if he decides he wants his shot after this season.

I think Jimmy stays. The kid has worked his rear off to prove his detractors wrong, but his resume is still incomplete.

Β

He comes back to 1) beat USC 2) win a Heisman 3) win a National Title

Β

Personally I'm more worried about Golden leaving after this season, but ultimately I don't think that happens either.

Β

I can't blame him if he goes and for selfish reasons I also hope he stays. That being said, I also have the same "feeling" that he isn't "NFL ready."

Β

I think he has made great strides each year, but that opening quarter against USC made me think that he isn't ready for the big show yet. He looked like a deer in head lights that first quarter.

Β

Another thing that stands out to me, he obviously has all the tools to be an NFL QB, but I don't think his mental capability is there yet. He sometimes throws little "hissy fits" on the field which to me shows a lack of maturity.

Β

And last, I can't remember which coach it was for sure, but I think it was Bill Parcels who had a list of pre-qualifiers to be taken in the first round as a QB and the players that had done this were often more successful than not, especially compared to players that come out early. Two of the things were: 1. Senior 2. 25+wins in his career. Neither of which Jimmy has achieved. There were a few other things on the list but I can't remember what they were.

He is not staying. If you are a high first round pick by most peoples accounts, you would be a fool to stay another year. Bradford almost, or maybe did, ruin his career.

Β

YOu go to school to get a good job, nothing is better than a top 10 pick in the NFL.

Β

He is not going to be any more ready after one more year at ND. Anyone who thinks this is absolutely wrong. If he gets thrown into the fire next year as a rookie in the NFL, that will make him much more ready for the next year. He is a tough kid.

Some ppl have mentioned Bradford but any of these kids that are projected to go high in the draft and stay, all take out insurance policies to the tune of 10-15 million I believe.

Β

Now granted, if they get severely injured and their playing career is in jeopardy, that would be unfortunate. But it's not like they would have to end up in a 9 to 5 job either. They would still be "set for life."

Has anyone actually stood beside Jimmy? Is he a true 6'3"? I didn't believe it and anyone I ask says he looks like a six footer...

That doesn't take away the fact that right now, at this very moment, Sam Bradford could be making millions of dollars per year rather than sitting on the sidelines because of his injury.

Β

And the insurance policies will only pay out if he is injured for life and is never able to play football again, and that's not the case with Bradford. Last year he probably would have gone in the top 10, which guarantees at least $3-$4M a year. He will be able to play again, but he'll be an injury risk, and if he falls to the 20s, 30s, or second round, the difference will be millions upon millions of dollars. The insurance policy will mean squat at that point, and his family would have spent a year paying premiums on something he'll never collect.

Ummm yeah this was pretty much his plan all along. He knew Weis was a pro-style coach who could help him get to the next level and thats one of the reasons he came here.

Β

Also he major is Sociology... The kid wants in the NFL.

Interesting how those who are the most vocal about their displeasure in the Irish team and Weis' future are also the ones who think Jimmy will not stay next year. The glass always seems to be half empty with some.

Β

I for one hope Jimmy comes back and think he will he has too much left at ND to prove. The millions will be there....with Jimmy I don't think its all about the money...His family already comes from money... I think he has fortitude and has a chip on his shoulder and will stay if nothing else to secure Charlies job for a few more years and piss off a good portion of our fanbase. that would be sweet.
