Sounds like another commit jumped on board this past weekend...Aaron Nagle out of IL. 6' 1" / 220 lbs projected linebacker. Runs a 4.5 by all accounts with a 4.4 GPA (out of 4).

Sounds like a great pick for us out. Welcome aboard Aaron.

Lemont's Nagel becomes hot commodity

Barely three months after the completion of the high school football season, Lemont linebacker Aaron Nagel already is emerging as one of the state's hottest prospects.

The 6-foot-2-inch, 215-pound junior, who is being projected at both linebacker and strong safety at the next level, received a scholarship offer

Monday from Illinois and 24 hours later from Indiana. Friday, he got one from Iowa State. Nagel already had offers from Northwestern and Purdue.

"My first offer came from Northwestern four weeks ago, and it was pretty exciting," said Nagel, whose five-times-a-week speed camp workouts have lowered his 40-yard dash time from 4.65 seconds to 4.52. "I sent out highlight tapes to a bunch of Division I schools, noting my improved 40 time and how I've added 15 pounds."

Nagel also is being recruited by Notre Dame, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Alabama, Georgia Tech, Nebraska, Michigan State, Minnesota, Boston College, Mississippi, Colorado and Arizona State. He scheduled a weekend visit to East Lansing, Mich., and has plans to check out Notre Dame, Illinois, NU, Purdue and Indiana.

"My dream school growing up has been Notre Dame," said Nagel, who rushed for 1,305 yards and 20 touchdowns on offense and had 55 tackles, four interceptions and four forced fumbles on defense. "I plan on visiting as many schools as I can and making my decision in May or June."

Nagel's teammate, 6-3, 270-pound center David Molk, also has an offer from Northwestern and is being looked at by Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin.

Lemont football star Nagel commits to Notre Dame

As far as decisions go, this was a no-brainer.

Last October, as college football recruiters began to recognize Lemont's Aaron Nagel as one of the top junior prospects in the Chicago area, he already knew which school he wanted to attend.

"My dream school is Notre Dame,'' he said. "I always wanted to go there. I always liked their program. I always liked their academics and tradition.''

Nagel's dream came true Saturday when he visited the South Bend campus, Irish coach Charlie Weis offered a scholarship and he accepted. He chose Notre Dame over Northwestern, Purdue, Boston College, Stanford, Michigan State and Illinois.

"I'm so excited,'' Nagel said. "I had 11 offers before Notre Dame, but this is the one I was waiting for. I would have waited it out until May or June before committing to another school. I always wanted to attend Notre Dame, but I didn't know if it would happen.''

Nagel didn't expect it to happen Saturday. He was asked to make an unofficial visit to meet Weis, who is recruiting Nagel to play outside linebacker, a position he hasn't played in years.

"I was told Weis probably wouldn't make an offer, that he just wanted to see what kind of person I am,'' Nagel said. "He told me they usually don't offer scholarships to kids who are projected for a position they haven't played. So it was a big surprise when he offered.''

As a junior, the 6-2, 215-pounder with 4.5 speed played running back and safety. He rushed for 1,305 yards and scored 20 touchdowns for a 9-2 team. Nagel also is an outstanding student, ranking No. 3 in a class of 340 with a 4.4 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.

"He is the most recruited player in the Chicago area,'' CSTV recruiting analyst Tom Lemming said. "He is projected as a 230-pound outside linebacker with 4.5 speed. You don't find too many like that. He has five-star potential, one of the best prospects in the Midwest.''

Nagel, who played outside linebacker in his Pop Warner days, doesn't think it will be a difficult transition.

"Defense is my passion,'' he said. "I like to hit people. I'm used to carrying the ball 17 to 18 times a game and catching passes, but I like defense more than offense. I like to be the one hitting people, not the one who is taking a hit and getting hurt.''

My Dream School is Notre Dame

Stonebreaker, Bolcar, Pritchett. They're names that just sound like linebackers and the last group to win a national title at Notre Dame. Now Chicago area native Aaron Nagel takes his shot as the second member of what most are expecting to be Notre Dame's greatest recruiting class in a decade. Nagel, a 6-2, a 215-pounder with 4.5 speed committed to Notre Dame over the weekend after a surpise offer from head coach Charlie Weis. He projects as an outside linebacker, but has played safety and running back most of his career. 11 other schools offered Nagel, but those offers were rendered meaningless after Notre Dame extended a free pass to play for the Irish. On film, Nagel has speed, tenacity and the willingness to hit. He told the Sun Times, "Defense is my passion... I like to hit people." With 11 offers from mid-level schools like Purdue and Illinois, Nagel was just starting to receive mail from Oklahoma, Alabama and Nebraska, when Weis shut the door. Nagel is the second commitment Weis locked up before they became nationally recruited. DE/LB prospect Kerry Neal is the first. Before he ever coached a down in the NFL, Charlie Weis first made his name as an evaluator of talent. Here's a take from EdgyTim.com Aaron Nagel just has the look and the presence of a player primed to make it to the next level, a high next level at that. Physically, this is a kid with good size and abilities already, yet I can also see Nagel having the potential of filling out and getting bigger and stronger. Speed? Nagel definitely has football speed. On the defensive side, Nagel closes with authority and shows great burst. Nagel also has very solid instincts and reads and reacts extremely well. Nagel's junior tape (which was excellent by the way) will no question bring him more serious looks and interest this winter.

I watched his video a few days ago. His defensive videos were impressive. Pretty fast and LOVES to hit. I see it being a good fit.

Rivals is also now confirming Nagel's comitment.

yep, i updated the sticky, with the commitment and also with martha's offer, if anyone hears about any others just let me know

Oh, you'll know TD. It'll be plastered across the board.

Great job guys. For those of us who don't have the contacts or expertise that you do, we appreciate the lightning fast news on our beloved team. Can't wait till the Blue/Gold game!

Cupajoe. :) :) You hit the nail on the head there.

It is why I am so proud to be associated with Domers here and a member.

We most certainly do not have the resources, money, time and expertise or mony of others but. Somehow our guys all add a bit and get the real picture as it is hashed out. Best thing of all is anyone can toss in an opinion we can chew over.

That's why any poster has an idea? Opinion? Rumor? Spell it out let's look at it. :)

First, let me say that I am stoked about Aaron Nagel. He sounds like he has a lot of talent and potential, and I like the fact that he has been a lifelong fan, and that ND is his dream school!!

Second, I am very new to The Domer's Domain, but I really like everything about it so far. The people are great, and the news is right on. I also have not seen a lot of the "crap" I have seen on the other sites. I am happy to be a part of this site, and look forward to following ND with the assistance of The Domer's Domain.

Thanks to all involved!! :D

Im really liking the NE scheme that is being implemented here at ND. Both of the guys we have gotten so far are fast big, and fit the mold of the outside lbs for NE...this kid is going to be a beast. Lemming said he could see him being a 5 star prospect, and yet weis beat everyone to the punch in recognizing that!

Can't wait till the Blue/Gold game!

My money is on the Irish winning.
