I'm seeing these names piling up and I'm wondering if we're going to have to close the recruiting class without getting all the best players we could strickly because of all the 3 stars we took early on...

We'll be fine. We can lump the EEs with last year's class.

It's not that simple, remember there is a scholarship limit beyond the yearly 25 plus EE's.

The way I see it, is that ND can bring in the max of 28, the 25 max plus they can take in a season and the 3 EE that they can put with last years class. However that said doing this would mean that they take no 5th year guys and I don't see that happening.

There is no way we take more than 28 or get more than 3 EE's, therefore, what I'm saying isn't too far from the truth of the details. We're fine. We won't get that entire wishlist, nor will we fill the max of which we are speaking, either. I see us getting 25 at most.

obviously if every recruit -- every top recruit-- that has serious interest in us-- if they all decided they wanted in-- we probably wouldnt be able to fit them all in---- but as ziggy says--- the odds of that happening are slim to none---- i think we should be just thrilled it looks good for a strong finish----i doubt we lose anyone we REALLY want becuse of schollies---i AM HOPING FOR 7 MORE== and all good ones-- if we get that -- it will be one sweet class--- and we will all be happy!----- 24 man class---

Wave is completely right. We can make the room. Still waiting for Warren Sapp jr to commit!

We can admit as many early as we want to. My understanding is only 3 of them can apply to the previous years class. The extras would apply to this years class resulting in a maximum of 28 total this year.

Β

The bigger question in my mind is around 5th years and the 85 scholarship limit. I'm not sure we can take up to 28 but if we did, it would certainly mean some guys not getting the opportunity to come back as 5th years.

im pretty sure there's no limit of EE's applied to previous class. See Miami/Bama's 30 plus classes even though not all of them passed.

Β

the 3 that everyone is thinking of is the original limit of EE's that ND would allow. when they first asked for it, the school said 3, now there's no limit.

You may be right Ziggy but if I recall correctly on the Bama/Miami/Ole Miss front was that if all of those recruits qualified (which they didn't), they would have to ask some of them to gray shirt. Meaning that they could participate in football but not under scholarship until one opened up for them. There was a lot of talk here in Arkansas about this on the radio talk shows. Specifically about how you would choose the kids who wouldn't receive scholarships year 1. It brought into question the integrity of those programs in that they have the kid under control but the kid wouldn't have any other options after they signed their LOI.

Β

I'm also not sure how many of those recruits at those schools would have qualified for EE.

yes but either way those schools needed at least 7 EE's to have the others sign LOI's.

Forgot that Badger was an EE. My point is that by the numbers at the time with not taking a single 5th year was 28 would be the max. The 25 allowed and the EE's hence the 28 possible scholarships as I mentioned.

Β

Now that Walker got a medical hardship that will open up another to take another HS or keep another 5th year player.

Β

If they can get who they want I think they take up to 26.

Nothing away from coach but I still think it may be premature to declare that as cold hard fact.

There is a limit. There's a limit of 25 scholarships per year, and 85 total. Early enrollee's (EE's) can be applied toward the previous year of 25 limit (since they would still be entering school during the same school year as those players).

Β

We took 18 scholarship player's last signing period, meaning we could technically max out at 7 EE's this year, with a total of 32 in the entire signing period.

Β

However, that would put us over the 85 limit. As of right now, we have 58 guys that are going to technically be on scholarship, just from Jimmy's class through Manti's class. That leave's a total of 27 scholarships open to sign this February, minus any 5th year guys that Charlie and the coaches INVITE back (remember, not all of them are allowed back, the coaches have to invite them back, and they have to have graduated from undergrad and enroll in post-grad classes), and then you can add in spots if anybody from Jimmy's class goes pro, or if anybody transfers out, or gets a medical hardship waiver for their scholarship from the university.

Β

In all reality, 28 is probably pushing it. 25 might be a bit much. But, I think it all depends on who wants in, and how much we want them here.
