The USC game was an example of what this team could do when motivated properly. The problem is they were self-motivated by that game because of the opponent. These games against teams like BC should not even be close but are because our guys play flat. We have more than enough talent to beat them but play flat so the games are close.

Β

Also, why were we throwing so much with BC dropping 7 or 8 every play?

Completely agree...

I would suggest that it's not so much the run or pass choice but the formations weis kept trotting out were feeding into that defense.

Why did we not have tight formatoins that we motioned out of or ran out of. i was underwhelmed with the coaching...

Β

i wouldnt call it motivation, as much as i would call it discipline.

There's a reason we looked flat. They dropped 8. What do you expect? When you get into the redzone, that's difficult. We couldn't score against USC last week with 4 plays down there. We hurt ourselves with penalties, though I thought a couple were questionable. Either way, it's not like BC's defense is awful. It seems a lot of you think we should just walk over everybody. Tell me a top team that hasn't struggled against a lesser opponent this year... Hell, look at UF & Alabama. It's all about winning, nothing else.

I know its very difficult to gauge, are the irish winning these games because of their coach or in spite of him? If we had a different coach would we be winning these games against less talented opponents by larger margins? Who knows

Β

I guess the only thing we can do is let the season play out and hope the administration makes the right decision for the future of the program.

Β

Right now im content being 5-2 and finally beating fredo.

Please explain how you know where there motivation was generated. Where you in the locker room or out on the practice field all week? Or were you on the sideline during these games?

Β

I was frustrated that we didn't kill this loosy team. I'm even getting close to thinking maybe Weis isn't the right guy but c'mon!

You take what the defense gives you - the underneath pass was there all day and if you can gain 5 yards a play, then take it and move down the field.

Β

The penalties killed us...although that clipping call was BS IMO b/c he was engaged with the guy and then fell down into him...

Agree wave, if we are going to say its all about winning and charlie is in hot water because of his winning percentage then we have to accept W's however they come. If a loss is a loss then a win is a win.

I'm willing to give Weis the benefit of the doubt when it comes to the sputtering offense. This team is incredibly banged up: Floyd, Allen with a nagging ankle, Clausen with turf toe . . . those are the three players that make the offense go.

Β

On defense . . . . it's Tenuta. They blitz and they get burned. They play honest they bend but don't break.

Β

If Charlie survives this season then I won't shed a tear when Tenuta and his diabolical blitzing circus leave town.

coaster, we just beat a formidable opponent playing our worst game of the year.

Β

the post-USC game hangover was expected. the best part about this is that the coaches can stay on top of them b/c we didnt perform to the best of our ability, but we still got a win. i'm not happy with the way we played, but our defense forced 5 turnovers, and allowed just 14 pts (2 were on Jimmy's safety), and I think 7 of those points were set up by the free-kick after the safety.

Florida struggles with Arkansas last wk at home (should've lost).

Β

Bama struggles with Tennessee this wk at home (Tenn missed 3 FGs and lost by 2)

Β

OSU losing to Purude last wk.

Β

It happens to every program. It's not always the coach's fault. Id say Urbie, Saban, and Tressel are pretty good coaches.

I thought we called a good game

Β

If u told me Hughes vs a Safety in the hole a the one yard line I would take that

Β

our defense stepped up and you guys now say we played flat? I'm not sure here gAng but we just beat A good team that had beaten us six years in a row And we did so with horrible field position and agAinst a teAm that will go to a solid bowl game

Β

not our best performance but a win nonetheless

Β

are we now disappointed to win games

Hughes was knocked out cold on that play. He stays conscious he scores.

This is a bunch of BS. Stop taking the kool-aid.

Β

Our starters are mostly 4 and 5 star recruits and we struggle in every single game this year except for Nevada? The 2 teams we lose to also have 4 and 5 star players. The KILLER is we struggle to win against every other team made up of 2-3 star players? What? We can't win by 2 touchdowns against any of these teams? Its not a coincidence. Its not the anti-luck of the irish. Its pure CRAP. Its horrendous coaching and I'm sick of it. Fire CW! He's had his chance (5 years!) and he has failed miserably.

YOU MIGHT AS WELL GET USE TO IT , EVERY TEAM THAT WE PLAY WILL USE THE SAME GAME PLAN THAT PETE CARROLL USED , COPY CAT GAME TONIGHT WE WERE LUCK TO GET THE WIN HERE, WHAT SOME OF YOU ARE FORGETTING THAT THE KIDS PLAYING NOW ALL THEY CAN REMEMBER THAT Notre dame was the team to beat , they saw on TV and there parents would cheerer for the Irish now these young kids think when the play the Irish it's like beating a frank leahty team, so with the Irish staff that we have , i think Charlie has to get more involved with the defense coaches, IMO there has been some on the blitz, we don't do it as much, just look at SC rush 4 cover 7, should work, but we need better defensive linemen , before we can do that, teo is what we need more of, not these big slow linemen . what say you ? ;)

Β

Yeah, and where was the helmet to helmet contact penalty on that play?

Thank You Coach. I thought after the way our defense looked against USC we would beat BC bad. But you are right. A win is a win. Especially since the BC team has beaten some respectable teams.

sure it was a win, but it was quite ugly. 5 to 0 turnover margin...should never have came down to the last drive of the game.
