As of now,

Β

We have played the:

4th (Nev), 16th (SC), 25th (Mich), 32nd (MSU), 42nd (Purdue), and 73rd (Udub)

ranked offenses.

Β

ND is

# 104 in total defense.

Β

# 71 in scoring defense.

Β

# 64 in rushing defense facing the 17th LEAST number of attempts per game.

Β

#117 in passing defense having faced the 26th most attempts per game, 96th in opposing qb rating, 58th in interceptions, 102nd in yards per pass attempt, #73 in TD's conceded by pass, and #73 in completion percentage conceded.

Β

All this versus the:

17th (MSU), 23rd (Purdue), 36th (SC), 38th (Udub), 85th (Mich), 92nd (Nevada)

ranked passing offenses.

Β

#61 in sacks

Β

Β

Others:

#64 in kickoff yardage, tied for 108th (LAST) in touchbacks with 0... ZERO!

Β

#117 is completely unacceptable.........................

Tenuta must be insane because he keeps running the same plays thinking he's going to get a different result.

Β

A good coordinator looks at their opponent and exploits their weaknesses. Tenuta has the same game-plan regardless of who they play.

Β

Face it, with reactionary offenses nowadays, the game has passed Tenuta by.

Maybe Minter has secreted his way back onto the staff!

Yeah...Tenuta's gameplan going into every game is blitz blitz blitz. Not hard for an offensive coordinator to devise a gameplan against the defense.

Tenuta once read "The Charge of The Light Brigade" and thought it was a very reasonable strategy.

Charlie hired Tenuta BECAUSE we could not get pressure with the front four based on the personel last year and this year. charlie knew this and was searching for a solution, i think tenuta was a reasonable option.

I have a simple solution:

Β

Recruit a Defensive lineman that is worth his weight in salt....

they tried... at least he recognized the situation and TRIED to remedy it.

Can you imagine how good we would be if we just had a pretty good Notre Dame defense. This

is really puzzling to me. I haven't given up on Tenuta. He certainly had results with Georgi Tech.

If we don't start improving THIS YEAR then maybe it is time for a change. Why is it that when we

blitz it seems like the O line picks up everybody .... every time?

the arrow point up.... ESPECIALLY if we get Jimmy back...

One disparity in the stats which caught my attention was that we had 104th ranked defense in total yardage, but only 70something in scoring defense. why the difference.

Β

2 reasons, ND doesnt turn the ball over yeilding short fields and ND has very good redzone defense.

Β

16th in the country, 71% conversation rate for points.

It's not the schemes here it's the execution. Fundamentals are lacking. Whether that's on the coaches for not emphasizing and drilling or on the players for not executing we will never know. How many dropped INTs have we had? How many missed tackles?

Β

I've watched Tenuta for a long time and he has good schemes but we are limited in DL personnel and we lack sound fundamentals on defense.

The guy is experienced and consistenly produced good defenses as recently as 2006...at least statistically. GT never gave up more than a 20ppg season on D. They were excellent against the run, sacks and pass d eff.

A buddy of mine who follows Olahoma and Okl State, thinks Tenuta just doesn't have the players. He feels Nd's current players, with a few exceptions, are still just a step too slow compared to his teams and SEC teams. FWIW.

If Tenuta did that well at Ga Tech, then the reason he is not doing well here must be that we have less gifted athletes. They can only play up to their capabilities. The Peter Principle applies even in football. Better athletes who are faster, bigger, stronger, quicker, and more athletic usually beat the snot out of less athletic players.

Β

We simply have not recruited the best athletes on the defensive side. That might be changing but why wasn't it a priority for CW four years ago when he arrrived on campus? If he would have made it a serious priority then, I would think that by now we would have had some solid defensive beasts like Allen Page by now.

Do you think Charlie didn't think that recruiting Defense was a priority? Charlie is a lot of things but stupid is not one of them. I think it had to do with the ability or lack there of of our defensive coaches at that time to recruit. I think a lot of our problems can be traced back to how Charlie had to hire his staff via phone while coaching for the Patriots during their superbowl run. Could you imagine having Corwin and Tenuta for the full tenure of Charlies reign.... Corwin is a great recruiter and Tenuta with talent can be a great d coordinator......I think the D would be pretty darn solid right now. Just something to chew on
