If the D were not to improve at all, and Weis did make a move, what about bringing Romeo onto the staff? I have always liked Tenuta but I'm not so sure he can co-exist and call plays effectively. Anyone else think getting rid of Corwin is a better idea or both, explain your reasoning and what you see for our defense in the future (assuming we finish the season with wins and Weis is still around).

Thunder, Tenuta is not a real recruiter. He can chat up with recruits but really not go on the road. I love him and want him to stay, he's become a Notre Dame guy. The personnel he has just is not ready for prime time.

Corwin? A good recruiter...He had his schemes for one year and they amounted to disaster. He may as Asst HC have to move on to greener pastures.

It's unclear what 'co-exist' means or how the pie of decision making is made.

I do not mean they don't get along.

Romeo? Would have sounded good 3 years ago, but not now. I know he and Weis are good friends.

I was just throwing an Idea out there, the guy did do some great things with NE but so have many others since him.

I'd be cool with Crennel. I have to disagree with SJ about Tenuta. I think his play calling is god-awful and think he's our biggest problem right now.

I agree. Tenuta may be good but he isnt very good right now. 2 Freshman QB's have picked ND's secondary apart like they were middle school kids. ND's secondary are top quality athletes with experience as well so it must be the coaching. There's no good reason they should have been torched that bad. He was good coaching against those ACC teams but I guess things have changed. I hope he figures it out soon.

I agree that Tenuta may be good, but for whatever reason he isnt good right now. I think we need to get rid of Corwin as our secondary coach, although I love his ability to recruit. Tenuta is a horrible recruiter. Ideally I would like for Corwin to stay on is some recruiting capacity, but instead of Romeo, lets get someone that has a proven track record in the college game. I think that person should be young, energetic, and enthusiastic.

Crenel would be terrible. I'm sry he was bad at Cleveland, he would be bad at ND

Just b/c he's a bad head coach doesn't say anything about his ability to coach defense. Many examples of horrible head coaches that were excellent coordinators.

ok good point, i just think ND needs to stay away from the Belicheck(Sp?) connection

You and I could pick apart a defense if i could stand in the pocket for seven seconds like Barkley did on Saturday. The DB's (execpt Harrison Smith who was down right awful on sat) cant do much if the QB has all day to sit back and pick them apart, regardless if he is a freshman or not.

U$C was able to kill us with 4 guys rushing and 7 in coverage......we were bringing 5, 6, 7 and Barkley still had all day. Even if our secondary didn't stink, asking anyone to cover athletes of U$C's caliber for that long is am impossible mission.

I am not giving our secondary any slack here.....but I still think that they are being asked to do something that no secondary can do. In short, our secondary might not be elite.....but our scheme is making them terrible.

this is probbly NDs biggest problem, the DL. ND just doesn't have the great DL that USC does but if ND can keep martin and pick up ferguson then that is a huge step in the righ direction. everything starts up front and when a DL cant get to the QB it becomes a problem.

IMO the bad defense comes down to two things a bad DL and players not knowing or exicuting their assignments.

You know any names of young guys rising up the ranks that would be willing to come take over the defense at Notre Dame? I really don't know many assistant coaches in college, but I'm sure there is someone out there.

Wish I could pick apart a secondary but I was a DB myself. I was usually the guy getting abused. Im not blaming them at all I just think the scheme is out of whack along with a few other things. At least they started getting it sorted out at the end of the game. It was just too late. Such is life.

We should be dropping into a lot of cloud zones with the way our athletes are right now. We do a decent job stopping the run up the middle but our linemen can't get pressure. Let them plug the line and just drop 6 or 7 every time and get coverage sacks.

Give Will Muschamp a blank check and tell him he's head coach in waiting.
