I'm willing to give Charlie a pass on this game, for the most part. Adjusting to all the injuries was bound to cause difficulty. Tenuta adjusted on D, and it was better (mostly). The running in the 2nd quarter was nice to see. The one bone I have to pick is this.....I think Charlie got too cute and out-thought himself adjusting the play calling for Crist in the 2nd half. He seemed to feel that he couldn't call any of our regular pass plays for Crist, i.e. no slants, nothing to Rudolph. The guy is a top QB recruit, its his 2nd year in the program, I don't think you have to completely go away from what you do.

But mostly, Thank you Jimmy! That drive went a long way.

was jimmy really that hurt not to play the third quarter? honestly ND was only up 17-7, why not have clausen come in and go up 24-7 before u turn it all over to crist?

Well.... with Jimmy at the helm our O scored 3 in the first half... Crist did manage the offense to 14 points.

I would have liked to see the offense open up for Dayne in the 2nd half... not the same stuff we had been running... but I wasnt mad that Jimmy didnt come out

Sorry, a last second victory against a team that got beat by Northern Illinois is nothing to be proud of. I'm willing to bet that none of the Purder players received a scholarship offer from ND, yet they took it down to the last second. I'm unimpressed. This would have been fine in Weis' 2nd year or even 3rd year, but his 5th year? Stacked with 4 and 5 star players, ND should dominate teams like this. Minus one play, ND loses this game. No pass from me.

Nice you discount all of Notre Dames injuries. If you look it's been topsy turvey for all but top 3 teams in the nation.

I'll take the win any way we can get it. I agree it's nothing to be proud of, but we are hobbled with 2 of our top 3 players riding the bench tonight and our star QB noticably hurting.

I like the adjustments by Tenuta on D. The blitzes were so much better timed and we saw some decent results to that.

A healthy ND offense would have put up 40+.

Gosh you really don't look at things right. You think you just plug in another 4/5 star and get things rolling again. Sorry dude. That is just not how things work. That game plan was great. We had to play as a completely different team. Actually, we kinda turned into USC with their QB issues. Power run game. And we did it. We got the win. We beat a team with our running game... When could we have ever done that? BE HAPPY! Its an ugly win to pollsters who open the paper and see the box and final score but for fans who know the situation, it was a fantastic win.

It was a tough game against a team that really is not as bad as what 90% of this board thinks... not to mention the guys that were out... take any team... take their top WR and RB out of the game... have their starting QB play maybe 33% of the game and what you saw tonight is what you are gonna get.

Β

Is this team a NC contending type team? No not currently... the D is still green

easy nicepost. i realize we looked anemic, but they don't ask how, they ask how many. it is a testament to the fact that our Dline is just wayyyyyyyyyyto small. we get no penetration up the gut. our d backs play way too soft, and we are still making too many mistakes. i'll be glad not to play a big ten team next week. thank god for clausen. we need to get healthy and beef up the d-line................

Fewer whiffs on tackles... and one amazingly glaring mistake by McCarthy... but I enjoyed what our D showed tonight... moving in the right direction

^^^^Look what happened when Sam Bradford missed the 2nd half against BYU. OU lost. We were lucky enough to have Jimmy tough it out for 2 possessions in the 4th quarter and win a close game. Point being, if your missing one of the best QBs in college football for a big chunk of the game, its easy to struggle with an inferior opponent.

COMPLETELY AGREE. I really like the aggressive play call but like any head to head competition, you have to keep the opposition on their toes and guessing. If you blitz all the time, there is an answer. Mix it up and you have some confused kids.

Don't forget that the team that lost to NIU also gave Oregon all they wanted, and oh yeah, Oregon beat Cal like a rented mule.

HA.... rented mule...

Now we're giving passes for games won.

What will it come to next.

Completely agree. Reminds me of the Davie era when ND fans were celebrating wins against Army and Navy. I won't be convinced until we beat SC. A 3 point win against a bottom dweller in the BIG 10 is disappointing even with the injuries.
