Would love to hear your ideas on what in the world we can do or should do given these last two weeks of poor performances----NOT SIMPLY CRITICISM OR ANALYSIS---but hard ideas on what we can realistically do by washington and USC

 

My ideas--- I would love ethan moved back to DE -- he has disappeared at DT

 

I would love to see Darious Flemming playing much more at the other DE and Manti moved into a starting LB even if toryan has to sit more!

 

And WTF has happened to harrison smith-- he doesnt seem to be in on ANY PLAYS--he was more a factor at LB last year----

Don't play the CBs 10 yards off the receiver and wrap up when tackling.

Just blitz less when we have the athletes to out play an offense... I was screaming the entire game to make the young qb try to find a gap if we actually cover up wrs....I am just sick of blitzing the entir team... It doesn't work!

HA... while he was brought up, preseason, I thought that his presence would show dividends on the DL.

It all starts at DT - we have to find one to allow Ethan to move to DE where he could cause lots of problems. Teo is lossed on a lot of his drops - this is not a simple scheme and he is still a year or maybe at best half a year away from being ready. Again like last year we bring 7 and it gets stuffed because other than Ethan they do not have to double or really even worry about anyone along the line - either Hafis or Cwyner needs to step up and allow EJ to move to the outside that is the key to fixing the defense. We are having to stunt way to much because we just don't have the horses.

Didn't you see Manti not covering that TE on that long pass completion?

- Put heavier guys on interior line with a rotation of the Williams duo and Cwynar

 

- Move EJ to end

 

- Corners tighter coverage on blitzes

 

- On throwing downs how about since everyone is expecting Tenuta blitzes, how about the occasional changeup and we actually show blitz but drop 7-8

 

- Improve the S&C program as our guys get gassed by the end of the game

I think the concern here is that the front 4 will not be able to get any kind of pressure on anyone if they are the only ones on the field rushing the passer. They never get a push and without blitzers there will never be any pressure, he will simply have all day to throw.

 

But your right what they are doing now isnt working so why not change it up, cant be worse.

it seems to me that the blitzes are obvious and too easy to pick up. the blitz does not fool anyone and is so regular that teams just go to shorter drops and hit single covered or uncovered receivers for easy completions and lots of yards after the catch.

 

it would also be nice if the nd dbs (exc mccarthy) could hand onto picks. walls had two and herring had one on the last drive.

It is a bit mind boggling. Hasn't anyone told Tenuta the blitz isn't unpredictable if you blitz all the time. Our DBs are not making plays. Maybe its just bad luck or something but I don't like it. I agree though... If we can do something about the defensive end, this team can be very good.

I know this isn't a possibility, but we should have stayed in the 3-4 from last year. I loved watching our D fly around making plays and having fun. I know the concern is that we don't have the DLINE size to play the 3-4 but after watching our DL be ineffective for 3 weeks, lets put our best athletes on the field and actually force the O to guess where we are coming from. We have some incredible linebackers that fight over 3 spots and a less depth on the DL playing for 4 positions and no one is getting it done. We were a fun D to watch many times last year. I have yet to see that this year, just flashes in week 1.

I know this isn't a potential solution...but I'm absolutely clueless on what to do on D so I'll just vent instead..

 

How is it that Tenuta's defense can be so unbelievably dominant at G.Tech (see ND vs GT, 2007, a 33-3 ass whoopin' where we were sacked 9 times) and so mediocre with ND? Did GT's defense have that many better athletes than ours? I doubt it....something's amiss...
