You might be thinking Mack Brown, Urban Meyer, or even by the stretch of the imagination, Lloyd Carr, but none of them. Hell, it's not even Charlie Weis. It's Rob Ianello. This dude is brilliant on the trail. He and Haywood stole Webb right out of SEC country (A place off-limits to the Ty regime), pulled Jones, Aldridge, and Schmidt right out of our own back yard (Something that has been noticeably absent), And he secured two sets of teammates in Ryan and Parris & Prince and Mullen. He's been huge for us.

The only other guy that van recruit like that( and I hate to say this but its Pete Carrol) just look at the quality guys he pulls in.

Carroll? Well yes but he's selling a winning program. Coach Weis had really nothing to start on. Got to think these warm weather boys that might want the Pros. As Coach said if you don't want to play at South Bend because it's cold in general forget the Pros. :D Not all teams play in sunny Cal :D :D

Carroll, he's just as good, but look at what he can sell. Ianello pulled off some miracles grabbing the kids that he got with no games played.

I do agree that Carrol does have alot to sell with the location, wheather, girls,

and they defending national champions, but if you look at his past 2 classes especially 2004 where he reeled in 8 five star players you will see he is a pretty good recruiter.

I admit, he is damn good. With the amount of top-tier talent, I don't know how he convinces the 5-stars to keep coming. I was just saying, this recruiting year, Ianello has done more with less.

Ianello is a great recruiter cant wait to have a couple of his recruiting classes at Notre Dame.

OK!

I've said I do not really follow recruiting like you guys do, We all have our areas. Now let me ask this, presuming you guys at DD have Rivals or Lemming or IrishEyes....on hand WHAT IS THE DD guys opinion heren so far? Try to exclude any mags bias if you can on how we are doing?

Gut feeling, opinion, moed what have you on how Coach Weis guys are stacking up? I know a kid is 1 star to 5 star. Did Coach Weis address a space we need to have well? Considering at ND he's gonna improve under the coaching staff. Follow?

I would say we are doing great, last at this time how many commetments did we have 3 or 4 I cant remember. So in just sheer quantity we are better than last year. Know when it comes to quality it is based on the opinion of the coaches and I for one trust our new coach more so than the last to judge talent.

I think Charlie and crew are doing an incredibly sick job. Far better than I could have ever expected. Not only by what they have committed but how many big fish still have ND in top 5. The effort by Charlie and his staff has been 2nd to none.

To be brutally honest, Charlie has set the groundwork for the best class in recent history. I think he is still missing the amount gamebreaking talent that we need (Notice I am acknowledging that we do in fact have Aldridge, Frazer, and now Jones). For sure we have the #1 backfield, but we need more gamebreakers at wideout and we need more OL's, and for sure more DB's. I think we have the potential to be #1, but we are not quite there yet. Luckily, he has put us in as good a position as we could have asked for with the top talent at those positions.

Oh and yes I took into account that it is still August and there is plenty of time, I was just responding to the position we are in right now.

id still say best is the coach from iowa cant remember his name, but gets great talent to come to IOWA CITY???? gotta be good

This class is shaping up to be one of the best in recent history for the Irish. If this pace is continued (for both sides of the ball) it will virtually guarantee a top 3 recruiting finish. You've got to believe that should this occur, NOBODY saw it coming (outside of the Irish Nation that is). For proof one needs to look no further than any recruiting analyst's top 100. We have already secured a handful of commitments from the list, and are in the running for many more. This is a DRASTIC improvement from the past 2 years. We now have commitments from TWO top 10 QB's! When you think about how many top-tier programs we were chosen over, that stat is amazing.

good argument Weis.

As far as this recruiting class goes, I would be disappointed with anything less than a top 5 finish. I expect a top 3. Afterall, this is ND and we are about excellence.

Weisguy, you were thinking of Kirk Ferentz, and yeah he's another great recruiter.

Ferentz has been a great recruiter but he also has weaknesses as a recruiter. He has had big problems getting top echelon skill positions. He has had no success there.
