Last night watching some Sportscenter, they had a segment which featured Steve Spurrier stating he thinks Urban Meyer may bolt from Florida to the Irish next year. He didn't state any sort of insider knowledge, just kinda reiterating the fact that Meyer said it was his "dream job." In my opinion it's kind of the same thing we've heard before, and I doubt it's anything more than Spurrier's wishful thinking to get Meyer out of the SEC where he has wrecked everyone.

I don't feel as jaded by some ND fans by Urban Meyer for not accepting the job after Ty quit. I still think he's a great coach and would welcome him to the team. I just want to get the program back on track to where it was in the past.

Again, I'm not putting much weight on this, just thought it was mildly intriguing that the rumor was brought up again by another head coach.

Go Irish.

I do think eventually he comes to ND. But not next year. And I might be in the minority but I would welcome him.

Spurrier isn't off on this one. I was contacted from a buddy who coaches telling me his source (a head football coach at a D-1 school) says Urban is working ND for a deal right now. He wants to get out of Gainesville. He's tired of Kiffin and Saban and everyone else. Also, he likes the ability to create his own schedule. If Charlie sucks next year, Urban is in. Let's pray for Charlie, cuz I will not watching ND football with that slimeball running the program. My buddy then asked who I would rather have. I replied Saban, Weis, or Bill Cowher.

How awesome would that be to have Cowher. He would be my first choice besides Weis. Couldn't go wrong with Saban either.

Caught that on ESPN and heard Spurrier's comments....I'm sure the ole' ball coach still has plenty of connections at UF and would hear if Urbie was trying to bolt...perhaps this story has legs, but unfortunately for the Liar, when ND goes all the way this year, it will be "that ship has sailed" and the Cryer will appear...

Just have to add: every time news like this comes up, I'll hop over to a Gator board and I see them scrambling to grab every single quote, news article, and excuse they can to prove that Meyer is staying. Just amuses me that they won't even entertain the possibility that their coach would leave. Because, you know, that never happens *cough*Rich Rodriguez*cough*

Meyer is relatively open about it. Him and the coach that gave us the info were chatting it up about it. But, I would love to see Weis do well to put dirt in Urban's eye for not coming when we were down. Charlie is a true ND person who knew what was on the horizon, but came anyway. Urban waited to allow someone to rebuild the program, and now, he magically wants in. What an ass.

+1.....................

I want nothing more than for CW to succeed and win a national championship but I am very skeptical about his ability to do just that. If he fails to win a BCS bowl game this year, the guy I would like to replace him with would be Urban. He has proven to be a great coach and a great recruiter.

Some of us here don't like his tactics and think he is a liar, a cheat, etc. etc. but I just think if he were to coach ND and be as successful as he has been so far, everything would be fine.

This thread is just absurd--- spurrier said meyer might leave for ND or somewhere-- " afterall you've heard the rumors'--- he was simply regurgitating last years story triggered by urbans passing comment in that interview- same old same old-- he then said afterall i left florida-- one day you just say youve done it all and want to move on to something diffferent--- in spurriers case it was failing in THE NFL and then a step down- tail betweeen his legs return to a second rate sec school------spurrier is sour grapes-- and was trying to get under the skin of florida fans and coaches----for us to think this means that urban is on his way here is just FANTASYLAND____here we are on the cusp of such a great season and i hear this URBAN MEYER CRAP---lets just put him on the shelf where he belongs!

I didn't see the interview, or really any of the ND stuff this week, but I agree with Hawaii on this. I'm not going to worry about Meyer or anyone else for that matter. I just want to focus on this season and pray that we finally turn the corner under Weis. If that doesn't happen and we're mediocre we'll hear plenty of who's coming to replace CW and the demands for him to step down. I don't want to get the rumor mill going before the fall and hurt anymore of our recruiting efforts.

this reminds me of how people make excuses for torture now. sure, it's fine to claim ND stands for more then make excuses if they hire a sleazy guy like urban liar. man, sometimes i really wonder about us...

we've become a "whatever it takes", "bottom line" country. how'd that work out for wall st., just for the latest example? every heard the quote that says "what shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world but loses his soul?"

Agreed. Meyer is a snake and a great coach. He went to Florida instead of ND where Zook recruited great and had him setup to win. Willingham had Weis setup to compete with Akron and Toledo ... barely.

Although, if the rumor is true, it does say something about the talent Wies assembled. Meyer is the type of snake that goes where the talent is.

You neglect the fact that I confirmed it with a totally independent source who is a D-1 football coach that just hung out with Meyer and talked about it.

If we really want to get on the torture issue, we can in the "other topics" thread, so we can discuss how putting your kid locked in a room is the torture of "separation anxiety." Solitary confinement is torture. Really, the debate should be what level of torture will we tolerate. Waterboarding is nothing.

But alas, we should keep this thread on the fact that Urban Meyer IS talking to ND in case Weis fails this year, and it has been confirmed that Spurrier is correct. These aren't rumors. Just like the link about USC getting boned by the NCAA wasn't a rumor.

Actually i dont care if this ridiculous, wont die, michael meyers rumor was confirmed by the pope!--- the idea that deals are being discussed-- what ifs are being planned---and mr urban has one bag packed already, just waiting for us to self destruct so he can swoop in to save us from football oblivion-- is just wishful thinking for the urban MAN CRUSH types--

Mr Urban had his chance-- life moved on and thats that- case closed!

i guess we should all root against the irish this year-- after all why struggle along with charlie-- when with just one more 500 season-- we can dump the weisman-- and welcome with open arms and joy in our heart the savior Mr Urban-- i can hear him winging his way here now led by a chorus of angels!

if their really are some of you that expect this team to suck-- charlie to get fired-- and in the same day there will be a choir singing as Urban announces he is coming to save us --- if you really think thats in the cards then i have some nice acerage under the volcano for sale cheap for you--- some real HOT property

I wonder how Urban Meyer would play our Pro-Style players...We don't really have a mobile QB on the roster (John Goodman?)

I'm not rooting for the team to be awful and I don't really care who the coach is, as long as ND is successful. I consider the Irish to be way bigger than any single coach. The University isn't made by the actions of Weis or Meyer. I want to see Notre Dame return to it's winning ways- I don't think the school will lose it's character by hiring a specific person.

If Weis succeeds and leads us to prominence, I'll be thrilled. If he doesn't do well and White feels it's time to move on, so be it. I wasn't starting this thread to make fun of Weis or to get people to turn against him. I was presenting a story which I saw on ESPN and thought you all might have been interested.

Hope no one's getting fired up over this :)

No worries horseman-- to be fair you didint even start the thread-- it was the idiot spurrier-- who with his passing comment that only revived long quiet rumors someone was duty bound i guess to mention it-- spurrier HATES CHARLIE-- spurrier-- HATES URBAN-- i just dont want to see envy or jealousy or naivity-- blow this into something then what it was-- a brief passing comment by a beleugured angry resntful OLD COACH!

I really think we will win 10+ games this year. Charlie will be here for a while unless ND pulls an Auburn!

Whoa whoa whoa. What's with the hostility? I think most of the posts on this thread said that they hate Urban Meyer and don't want him around. Nobody is rooting against the Irish. Nobody said they were. We are just stating a fact that if Weis slips up, we know who the new coach will be and, personally, I can stop watching ND football. We are all rooting for Charlie, though. Nowwww, case closed.
