you might recognize the HS (same one as Kyle Rudolph). He & Kyle are good friends and old teammates. Some ppl think this may be a shoe-in for a commit. He's def my 2nd fav midwest TE besides CJ Fed. I havent seen enough film of the rest of the TEs to see how he stacks up vs. others across the nation. Chris Martin is also a stud TE lol, but he's going to be hurtin ppl on the defensive side of the ball.

another tidbit: his uncle played at ND and I didnt realize how much he wanted the ND offer. I think a committment is iminent. Looks like we wont be waiting around for CJ Fed to make a decision.

CW told him we're only taking 1 TE

Welcome To ND Alex !!!!

After reading that article, he is ALL ND bank it, he just needs a few days..

not sure this is cause for celebration. a TE we think we could get as soon as we offer which means we're taking ourselves out of the running for a potential 5 star TE?

whatever, people are dieing for some commits i guess.....ill take a look at this welch kid to see what he's all about.

EDIT: Ok just checked him out. seems pretty solid. not the athlete that Rudolph or Ragone is (i believe Ragone is a better athlete than Rudolph even if healthy), but he looks solid. Certainly holds his own blocking as well.

I could be happy with this as our TE. I thought we could still win out for Fed but like I've said before, I don't think he's the difference maker that Rudolph/Ragone are/could be. I'm also big on Eifert but am not sure he'll be a TE or WR.

I'd be happy to welcome Welch to the sqad.

I think CJ Fed is a 4 star TE and so is Welch. Granted CJ may look better on paper but I wouldn't turn down either.

Glad I could change your mind Chris. My ability to persuade is second to none. ;)

I wonder if he and Matt James know each other considering the proximity and the Kyle Rudolph connection. Either way, I think it's a race between him and C.J to be the 1 TE commit for this recruiting cycle.

Would we really say no to CJ if Welch commits first? Seems like a guy such as Eifert could be moved to WR to make room.

I agree Welch looks like a future (sooner rather than later) commit but why limit it to just one TE if both are solid? I understand the numbers game with scholarships but it seems we have room to wiggle with all the TE's we have currently on roster.

What in the world were we waiting for?

I think this guy is a better blocking TE than CJ. And he looked like he can catch and runs very good routes.

CJ looks like he has the athleticism to play WR but this guy looks more like a TE to me.

I would even say this guy could be an outstanding left tackle if he was willing. He handled the biltzing corner in one highlight. The dude tried to make a move and Welch just waited for him to finish his move and engaged. Beautiful.

Plus if this guy commits I think it would be solid.

Nice highlights 615!

I think your right. From the sound of it he's all ND. His whole family are massive ND fans. Lets hope he has a great senior season learns a lot and comes in ready to compete. His film looks pretty good as well. Hard runner, hard hitter, doesnt quit on plays, and looks like he enjoys a fight. Perfect.

I think that with the eligibility both Ragone and Rudolph have left I would think probably yes......

Just curious - is the 1* he has on Scout just because he was not evaluated or are they that far off on their assessments?

I hope it's the former and not the latter, because without even looking at his film but seeing offers from UM, MSU, ND, Oklahoma and WI, you'd think he would be good enough to warrant more stars.

I actually have to say I was pretty impressed with his video. Certainly has the size and frame, looks to have decent speed, and blocks pretty well. Even had a few pancake blocks. I say, come on down Alex.

It's b/c he hasnt been evaluated yet.
