'10 IN DE - Blake Leuders trimmed his list to 5 schools: ND, BC, Wake Forest, Northewestern, & Stanford

--- For Leuders, I think Stanford & Wake Forest are our biggest competition. You can tell the kid's not BS'n about academics, all good academic schools.

'10 CA QB - Nick Montana trimmed his list to 7 schools: ND, OSU, Georgia, LSU, Alabama, Stanford and Washington

--- For Montana, I think Stanford & OSU are our biggest competition. Interesting to see 3 SEC schools in the final 7. Also interesting is Washington (who will most likely get Jake Heaps in the near future).

We really need Lueders to team with Martin as an awesome DE duo after getting no ends last year. That'd be a huge blow for an Indiana kid to leave the state for a similar institution.

Obviously we need a QB as well and it'd be a swift kick to the gonads if Montana went elsewhere.

Very happy and surprised that Montana doesn't have SC on his list, from reports several years ago it seemed like he really wanted to go there....

I have an office a couple of miles from where Leuders plays. Those kids parents are loaded. My guess is that it is between us and Wake Forest. Edge to us. Then again the OT kid from Plainfield should've come our way since it would be closer for his parents to come see him and they could see all the away games on TV. I really like the direction the coaches are heading right now. They are cherry picking the physical specimens from the 2-3 star range. The old adage, you can't teach speed is so true. I'm excited to see what this team will be with the ND coaches pulling a Warren Buffet approach to recruiting. I also find it interesting that we are going after "UNDEVELOPED" talent. Kind of makes me think that we NOW have some coaches that can actually develop the talent. I'm excited about our future!

agreed on Leuders. Having him as a SDE prospect and Martin as a stud WDE prospect in the bag would really allow the staff to focus on the guys left they feel can complement that. I'm thinking the Clemmings & Baldwin types that can play inside and out. I think if Leuders committed you'd have 2 guys you don't have to worry about decommiting.

I went to the same school and played for the same coaching staff as Leuders (zville) and while McWhorter has produced a handful of Div 1 players and even an arena league pro, he is a bit green to dealing with the coaches at the National level as a result Leuders parents will have more to do with this decision than anyone else...

My suspicion is that ND has an edge as the program has national recognition, close to home, solid coaches who can prepare him for the NFL and an academic reputation to turn him into a success off the field...That being said, Stanford could offer the same benefits and having Jim Harbaugh as the coach who has a lot of ties into the area from his days with the Colts, they could be a dark horse in this race...

I have said it from the start with this kid...If we want him, we need to be very aggressive in his recruitment, but if it comes down to California sunshine vs. proximity to home...the battle could be a tough one...Its one thing to leave Florida/Texas/California to come to the midwest for a few years...but the opportunity to go to a warmer climate in December is an unbelievable opportunity for a kid his age...

And don't paint the wrong picture with this kid, he is a beast who works hard in the weight room...He has a different physical appearance than anyone on our current roster with a wide neck and cut @ 250lbs... The strength coach may be a big selling point for him in recruiting as well and frankly, I haven't seen our guys show a in increase in developed athleticism...his high school coaches know that too, and ND will have to sell that aspect to him as well.

well if you look at the stats since Mendoza came here, our team as a whole is a lot stronger.

Montana ain't going to SC apparently...and that alone is a pretty solid victory for me.

I can hear Joe now. Son, you have to decide which school is best for you. Not USC. It is totally up to you, except for USC. I mean, if you pick ND, fine, but not USC. Even Stanford if that is something you're interested in, as long as it isn't USC.

yes Montana is leaning and GEORGIA , IS one of the teams he is very happy with ,Seems Coach reich , has impressed the kid , if i were a betting man Notre Dame would be near the bottom of the list, Stanford , but no USC ;).

Six Words:

Number One Pick, Junior Matthew Stafford

But Joe isn't so naive to think that had a lot to do with Mark coaching him up. Mark was at FSU in its heyday and maybe 2 QB's came out and did the NFL Sunday experience. Harbaugh played for the colts and was somewhat liked here. Although, I don't seem to see that same guy coaching. Jim's Dad was a coach at W Kentucky for a long time and thats where he seems to get his abilities. Still think Blake is Irish. I don't know the coaching staff at zionsville.

I also think if we wanted to help bring in Leuders... We could consider his teammate Jack Denton, 6'2 230 4.69 OLB/FB... They are close friends and Denton has already gotten offers from Indiana and Ball State... Two smaller programs, but if we are able to bring him into the program with Lueders, the two of them could bring out the best in one another...

Just some food for thought...although, I think Leuders ends up in Palo Alto...just a hunch, but I'm hoping for Irish...
