Any analysis out there on Austin Hiner? Saw the II front page with an article about his recruitment. Seems like he has the body: 6"4, 175- will definitely need to put on some weight and muscle for the next level. Good arm though?

Thanks from your fellow Domer in Ann Arbor!

just that he plans on visiting ND early in the season for an official i believe. I'd like to have our QB in fold by then myself.

Looks like Weis is working on Hinder. Powlus and Polian visited Peter Thomas yesterday and watched him throw for close to an hour. Everything went really well. Thomas is very high on the Irish. Theres a good chance an offer might be coming soon. They were visiting Montana as well. Im glad they are considering Thomas because he seems like the best of the three. If I were a betting man Id say were going to land one of these three guys. (I hope)

apparently charlie has been talking to hinder once a week--- IMO when charlie puts the personal recruitment behind a player-- it means something-----i think hinder/ montana one of those will be our 2010 QB---- peter thomas would be less likely i think---- i dont think we can go wrong with any of the 3---- odds now would be on hinder 1st-- montana 2nd--thomas 3rd

i watched Thomas's sophomore film and was thinking, "i really hope we don't offer this kid" but then watching his junior film i completely changed my mind to "why haven't we offered him yet?". He's got the size, arm, and poise. He's not an "athletic" QB by any means but he's not afraid to scramble.

In fact, he seems very calm with defenders in his face in the backfield. That's a great intangible for a QB. His team would go 4 or 5 wide and you could tell he expects that he's going to be under serious pressure but it doesn't bother him (atleast it doesn't in his highlights but he only had 5 INT's his junior year....i guess ti doesn't list sacks taken).

The huge jump he showed from Sophomore year to Junior year is another great sign.

I think I'd rather this kid than Hinder to be honest.

I still hope we bring in two QB's this year, and I hope those two are Hinder and Thomas. I'm not sold on Montana.

Im not completely sold on Montana either and I dont think he's sold on ND. No doubt about it Id be happy to have him on the team. Im just not sure he's better than Thomas or Hinder. The tallest ones might be the best bet. Montana is a bit skinny and not that tall. He can add bulk but you can stretch out that frame. He might grow and then he might not. The other two are not as agile but they are tall which is great. Monatana also has a very nice touch and does play the position well. To me Thomas seems like the safest bet. Charlie certainly has his work cut out for him.

I agree, I think Montana is good and i would like to have him, but i do think he is lukewarm on ND. I have always liked Thomas, and I've heard he was really high on ND as well. Study his frame and skills, I think Thomas' upside is huge.

The thing I don't like about Thomas is that he looks like his feet are in concrete, I just don't see much mobility. One of the things that help Quinn was his ability to pick up first downs with his feet when need be. I know JC has improved his mobility some, but I like QB recruits like Crist who can make plays with his legs when need be

You serious? Like I said before it's only his highlight tape so it could be hiding dozens of stupid sacks he takes but his tape is littered with plays he makes with his feet to get off passes or pick up positive yards. He's not a "Dual Threat" but he's got pocket presense or "lack of a pocket" presense with his team.

My only concern is that he throws flat footed. I'm not a QB coach but usually u see a QB step into his throws but Thomas usually throws with his feet spread fairly wide and both on the ground throughout the throw (although Jimmy does this soemtimes as well with his deep lobs b/c he has the arm to compensate for it).
