According to Scout and Rivals, Priester was offered today by the Staff. His only other offer appears to be South Carolina St ;) Maybe he's this year's Kerry Neal- Carolina prospect that is flying under the radar. It appears Corwin Brown is his lead recruiter so I'm thinking DB prospect. Anyhoo, here's what I've been able to track down thus far about our newest prospect.

Per the bigspur.com, he's ranked as the 20th prospect in SC for 2010.

Though not the biggest, Priester is one of the fastest prospects in the Palmetto State in this class. His speed is legit and timed with a laser at the Charlotte Nike Combine (4.5, which translates into a 4.3 or so based on the conditions). Can make people miss in the open field, but does not show elite running back skills on film in terms of natural vision and feet. While the 5-foot-9, 170-pounder may not be the biggest prospect around, he can fit in somewhere in a college system as a defensive back, slot receiver or return specialist and there is no good reason football-wise why he’s not getting more attention. As Florida showed us all in 2008, speed kills and Priester has got it.

This is a strange offer. I don't care what anyone says about "sleepers" offering a player with zero division 1 offers makes me wonder. He is right in the middle of fertile recruiting grounds, its not like he is playing 7 on 7 in Alaska. Why has nobody else offered? It is just not possible for ND to be the only one that has seen his potential.

And don't blame his size, there are plenty of other prospects who are small. *Joyner 5'8" 165

This is a great offer and I promise you ND won't be his only D-1 offer come the fall.

i've kind of always thought that 1 or 2 spots should be given each year to guys who can flat out fly. all of the top teams can just out run everyone else and i would love to see a few more guys like that come to nd

But I always find posts like this humorous. If there were 6 Division 1 offers or 20, someone would post: "Why hasn't ND offered?" or "I hope ND offers."

If ND is first or among the first, we get the "Why hasn't anyone else offered?"

As far as I can tell, Weis and Company have been pretty good at evaluating talent. I don't need to see who else wants the same kids as the Irish. If ND Coaches see a need in some youngster, that's good enough for me.

One at a time.....Here we go

stay4awhile...I agree that speed is something ND needs to get more of. However, speed does not equal football success on its own.

Katzenboyer....Why is this a great offer? Do you have any information/reasoning behind this statement. I wish I knew more about this recruit.

Dobhar-Chu....It is human nature to question what we don't understand. I would never normally question the recruits ND offers because they are better judges of talent than me. This case is different and it makes me curious why ND offers a player with ZERO D1 OFFERS at this stage in recruiting. I follow recruiting closely and it is unusual to see this, in fact I don't remember seeing it ever before.

I am looking forward to watching how his recruitment progresses. We put ourselves in a good position if he really is a playmaker.

I agree with not questioning CW's recruiting anymore. If there's one thing I know he excels at, it's recruiting. No, I have no idea about this recruit. I've heard he's fast yet small. He apparently doesn't have an offer list either. Given all that, I'll take CW's word on it. He's proven not to be second-guessed in this aspect. :D

There has to be a first D-1 offer for every recruit at some point, right?....Whats more important is how many offers he has by the end of his recruitment, not how many he has now.

Because, while it's great to bring in highly rated guys, it's also great to bring in guys that have raw ability and develop them to fit your program. A great example of this is offensive lineman at BC -- they aren't highly rated but leave as first round draft picks. Another example is the athletes Florida brings to their program -- they might be three-star guys, but they have a tool (usually speed) that the coaching staff can use, and they develop them into major contributors. I feel like this is one of those cases.

Also, there absolutely is the ability to be the first team to offer a kid and then watch him explode. Carlos Dunlap, starting DE at Florida, wasn't given much attention over the spring and summer after his junior season. But Florida and a few other SEC schools saw talent, he went out and dominated his senior fall, and became a five-star.

The DT from Georgia who shall remain nameless also was a case like that. Started off as a three-star, and by the end of his senior season was a 5-star recruit and everyone in the country wanted him. The staff can see talent, and they've seen something in him that resulted in an offer. I love getting guys like this into the program.

hey i like this little guy alot-- we have a BUNDLE of schollies-- a speedy little guy like this is a fun offer IMO--- corwin has been recruiting him for awhile so this wasnt impulsive--- as far as other good offers go--- HE WILL GET A FEW NOW THAT WE OFFERED __COUNT ON IT-------this is a classic way under the radar player-- a SMALL risk-- i like it--- i guarantee this fella will be irish-- so we will find out in a couple years if this works!!!!!

East Carolina offered, so we're not the only D-1 school now haha

I like the offer, like I said when we offered Boyd. CW is working to get the athletes back at ND. If anyone saw highlights of the spring game, the 1 factor that everyone could see was the SPEED!! Even Tuberville when he visited said it. Also Tuck & Berry. ND is going to play fast on defense and they have the athletes/gamebreakers on offense. There might be mistakes esp with our youth on defense, but they will be fullspeed mistakes. Best secondary we've had here in awhile plus most athletic LBs, and a young, but very athletic DL. This defense could cause fits for opposing offenses.

Priester is just one of those kids with extreme ability and a love for the game. Get him on campus and let em figure out where he ends up after that. The kid runs a 4.3 and his quickness is just as good. Some guys just have straight line speed, but this kid has the hips and the quickness to be a great college player, he'll just have to develop in the weight room. And that's fine when our 2 biggest depth charts right now are our WR/CB's.

To me the video reminds of watching Golden in HS - not the biggest guy on the field, but making all kinds of plays every time he touches the ball...besides with those long white socks he looks almost 6' tall

I like the offer and it is great to get an ND offer first - kinda stands out...also Urban was on the phone offering him after he heard....

his film is underwhelming. he doesn't break away the way you'd expect someone with 4.3 speed to do. He shouldn't be getting caught from behind if he was actually that fast, which he does on his tape a couple times. Most of his big gains are due to well executed misdirection plays. Not many highlights on defense at all.

I don't think he's 4.3. I don't think he's 4.4. Maybe 4.45 but not that "football fast". Corwin seems to really like him but I would obviously rather Riggs/Boyd/Wood. What does this say about where we stand with them?
