Wow, where did that come from? Didn't see it coming.

I cant believe we havent offered another tight end...

i can't take anymore bad news today. i thought for sure we would be in it untill the end for him. hopefully some recruites change their mind after the season starts.

better to know this crap now. i don't want to be dropped on my head again in january....................

I am surprised given that it's clear that Weis runs and requires a TE friendly offense... and it shows on field (see numerous BGS posts).

Iowa & Ohio State??? What TE have they sent to the NFL lately? I'm stunned.

Are grades an issue? Or does he like the big school feel?

Again, I hope he reconsiders once the season starts again.

I have been noticing a lot of top flight recruits have been calling / narrowing their choices before the BG game... i wonder if opposing recruiters are trying to force issues.. or perhaps we were?

Iowa has Dallas Clark & Scott Chandler

I think this upcoming season will be one of the biggest season's for ND, either good or bad. I'm guessing recruits are starting to doubt if Weis is the guy, similar to to the fan base. Also, with all the stories about Weis possibly quitting last year coming out lately, that doesn't help either.

If we continue to struggle on the field this year, we may be set back another 5 years.

If we win 10 games, I think that will start to get the attention of a lot of recruits that are either on the fence or who decided to look elsewhere.

He will be in this weekend, I wouldn't at all be surprised for CJ to have a top 3 or ND with a slight lead...ND is a much better opp for a TE than the other choices...

I think people need to relax a bit here. It's still pretty early to doom a class based off a couple of misses. And who knows, maybe we get some back? The spring game will add some more verbals and this upcoming season could as well. Recruiting is something we shouldn't be worried about right now. IMO. :)

Not really sure why he'd want to go to a school like OSU that doesn't even use the TE.

yea those are just kind of strange favorites. I don't always agree with the concept of "that school hasn't sent anyone to the NFL at that positions" because the answer to the argument is "we don't have any elite _____ yet, you could be the first". It's a catch 22

But, it's hard to argue that ND uses the TE as much if not moreso than any school AND has prepared our recent TE's very well for the NFL. From a purely football standpoint we're a great option. Sometimes it's more than that. Still early for CJ though

I'm from Columbus, hate the Buckeyes, but I hear really good information about them.

I'm NOT claiming this to be true, but the Buckeye insider CLAIMS that we sit fourth on the board for CJ. Supposedly he didn't like a 'recruiting tactic' we used. I'd REALLY like to know if this is anywhere near true. But anyways, just saying.

I still think there is a chance we could work our way back up but it looks unlikely right now.

I'm not sold that the CJ info is correct. I get Iowa, somewhat but O$U? He doesn't have an offer from them and there TE's are more or less another OL.

ND is really where it's at for elite TE's and that's not being biased because the proof is there. I get the downside that he might have to bide his time somewhat but he a special talent and IMO would be Rudy's replacement.

Well we have plenty of time to change his mind at the spring game this weekend. Has he even been to ND for a visit yet? I know we have some elite tight ends and no incoming freshman should expect to start over them in the next 2 years. But look at last year how injurys and transfers can deplete a depth chart in a matter of days. Not to menion if CJ lives up to his hype he could potenially play alongside Rudolph after sitting out his freshman season. I think he could definetly give Fauria a run for his money after one year and we dont even know how Ragone will come back from his injury or if hell stay healthy. Like I said though we have him for the spring game and maybe we can make up some serious ground. Isnt he friends with another one of our o line recruits? If we dont land him we are in serious trouble on missing out on pretty much every elite Indiana and Illinois player except for Lombard.

thanks DonJuan for that voice of reason. ND is already in great shape with the three recruits we have. Were going to get more good ones soon. Maybe even this weekend. Im glad these guys have bailed out now rather than string the coaches along for the next 6 months or so. Charlie and co. can now concentrate on the ones who matter. Jones and Hurst have been signalling for a long time that they werent going to choose ND. Its not a shock. ND will be fine.

yes its early and yes it's only a few misses but it's misses we all assumed ND had great shots with and 1 was a legacy, the other was the only offer we have out for that position (TE) and the third was what we thought was our best shot at a truly elite LT prospect. it truly was a pretty bad day for nd recruiting news
